For me, its about ND focus on natural law jurisprudence. They are one of the few schools that holds the aforementioned view in a serious academic light, whereas most law schools are strict positive law theorists. This makes sense given ND's Catholic background.

Speaking as a former admissions officer, I would consider approaching the ND DKL essay not like a diversity statement but more like a Why X essay. ND is trying to figure out if you are a good fit for ND and if they are a good fit for you. What exactly about ND programming (centers, faculty, culture, clinics, journals, student groups, learning opportunities) appeals to you based on your professional goals and personal interest in law?
