On Wednesday, June 28 at 8pm ET, join 7Sage admissions consultant Tajira McCoy for another panel discussion with law school admissions deans from across the country. For this conversation, hear from representatives of Boston College, Emory University, Loyola University Chicago, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Richmond, and the University of San Diego, as they weigh in on various parts of the reapplicant process and common reapplicant questions––should you write new documents? Will retaking the LSAT help? Will applying earlier make a difference? Do I have to specifically address being a reapplicant? We hope to see you there!

Hi @kosterd1425-1, this is a great question! As always, it depends. At the beginning of the cycle, admissions officers tend to calibrate based on goals and priorities handed down by the law school dean and the university. As the class begins to take shape and some goals are met or are close to being met, the focus may shift to other priorities, which can affect how files are reviewed, how many offers are extended, and what risks an office might be willing to take. This is why so many stress applying early, when all of the seats are still available (and none of the scholarship dollars are spent). When applying toward the middle of the cycle, the school may have already received half (if not more) of their typical application volume, which for some schools could be thousands of applications. At the end of the cycle, for schools operating on a rolling admissions basis, the vast majority of the offers have been made. Schools have to become more and more selective at the end to ensure that they're achieving their assigned goals.

Hi @awhitehurst78, thanks so much for your question! Yes, for most schools, their system automatically attaches previous application files to the new one, so they will be able to reference all previous materials.

How does the evaluation of an application change over the course of the cycle? For example, if an applicant's numbers are at the median, is there a difference in the difference in their changes of admission if they apply at the beginning of the cycle versus the middle or the end of the cycle?

If you are reapplying, do the schools still have access to your previous cycles (essays etc..)
