Hi everyone. I'm planning on taking the October test in a few days but I'm not getting past the mid 150s right now. I want to apply with at least a 160 but I'm not sure if that's achievable in a couple days. The problem is that I'm planning on applying this cycle and the next test I can register for is the January one. Last cycle, I took the January test and scored in the high 150s but wasn't accepted in an Ontario school. I'm wondering if the score was the main reason or if it was because my application was considered late because of the late LSAT. Are there considerably lower spots remaining to fill? Are they harsher on your application?

I'm now in the same predicament and can't decide whether I should opt out of this test and take it in January or just take my chances and see if I get accepted with the score I receive. I just don't want to ruin my chances again. Any advice would be appreciated (even if you're not applying in Canada). Thank you!

Thank you to everyone that replied! I think I'm going to withdraw from this LSAT just because I don't think i should waste an attempt when I can get a significantly higher score in January.

  • I've heard that taking the LSAT in January (for Canadian law schools) isn't late and shouldn't hurt your chances of getting accepted. I know in some cases certain schools will explicitly state what LSAT to take at the latest (in those cases they might say they prefer you take the November LSAT at the latest or they'll out right say they won't consider any January scores). I've also heard that for the schools that don't say whether the January LSAT is to late for the cycle you intend on applying in, you should submit your application by the November 1st deadline and then reach out to the schools and tell them that you're planning on taking the January LSAT and to keep your application on hold until the Jan score release. I think in that case, people usually do that if the score they have on their file isn't the highest and don't want admissions to make decisions based on that score. Your OLSAS application should show that you're registered for the Jan LSAT as well so the Ontario law schools you apply to through there will know and usually just keep your application on hold if they see that.

I hope that's somewhat helpful. I'm also applying this cycle in Ontario and took the September LSAT but im planning on retaking in November and worst case January. Good luck!

You may be getting a lot of 3-star questions wrong, so I would focus on getting better at those, especially in LR to improve within a shorter time. I wouldn't worry about the more difficult questions at this point. However, your situation may be different. I'm also taking the LSAT this weekend and will apply to some Canadian schools. Best of luck.
