Depends how much time you have between now and the official exams you're targeting -- if you have no choice but to cram a bunch of study in before April, you should start PTs early.

You should give yourself a lot more room than that, though, and if you've got the room you should forget about timing completely until you've mastered the foundations.

I often use a swimming analogy for this. Without the foundations, you're doggy paddling. Taking practice tests right now gives you "how to doggy paddle fast" practice, which is worthless. When you've just started trying to swim with proper form, using proper form will feel a lot slower than doggy paddling. You gotta take the time up front to learn proper form -- speed will follow.

    Hey there,

So I've been at this for a while and I tried both approaches and can concur that that the best method is to study core concepts AND take PT's and/or timed sections. This test is as much practice as it is theory, so, suffice to say that both are essential for improvment. I only really began to see improvment when I took this approach. If you want more info, feel free to DM me.
