Hi, everyone! I'm getting excited to submit apps this cycle. This is my first time applying, so I'm new to the whole process. I'm looking at the LSAC website right now, and I see that there are two fees listed in addition to individual schools' application fees: a $219 CAS fee and with an additional $45 fee per application. Does this mean that I need to budget $219 + $45 * # of schools I'm applying to? If so, that's kind of outrageous. Am I misinterpreting something? I was planning to apply to 13 schools, meaning if I'm right, I'd be paying a baseline of $804 before taking individual app fees into account.

Mmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmm. You are (almost) correct. You'll get three or four free CAS Reports but then you'll pay $45 per school for the remainder of your apps.

@JacobBaska Woof indeed. That's frustrating, but it is what it is, I guess. While you're here, I have another question: I see that if I were to hypothetically purchase the $219 CAS fee today, it says that it would expire mid-September. Does that mean I should wait until I'm 100% ready to submit all my apps before purchasing it? Thank you!!
@pinky Hmmmmmmm, are you sure it isn't "mid-September 2027"? Because a CAS registration is usually good for one admissions cycle. But LSAC has surprised us before....
Regardless, purchase it when you know that you'll be applying this cycle because that's what's going to let you start filling out applications!
@JacobBaska Nevermind... I just didn't use my brain fully🤣 I added the CAS registration to my cart on the LSAC website, and it said the cart will expire in 15 days (mid-September)... not the registration🤦🏽♀️ My bad. Thank you so much for your help though!!!
@JacobBaska It says CAS is good for 5 years. It is the LawHub subscription that is good for 1 year at a time.
