Hi folks, as I go through the NU application, I'm struggling with the questions below:

1. What are your career interest(s) immediately after law school? (maximum characters 500)

2. What are your long-term career goals? (maximum characters 500)

What are they looking for here? Especially if I don't have any specifics? I know I want to go to a big law firm somewhere in Chicago or California, and maybe want to pursue some AI/SEC practice group, but I'm pretty flexible and don't really know. Somehow this feels like a trick idk maybe I'm paranoid LOL.

LMK thoughts!

They really just want a sentence of two on what your short term and long term plans are. That's it! For most applicants, it's basically providing a quick overview of their personal statement since the main question that's answered on that document is "why do you want to go to law school and be a lawyer?"

It's ok if plans change over time and it's ok if you're not 100% sold on something now, but remember that it's at least better to sound like you have a plan rather than have no firm plan in place. Fake it until you make it!

I would express something genuine like “I am interested in working at a big law firm, particularly in Chicago or California, and potentially in a AI/SEC practice group because of X, Y, and Z. While I’m unsure which area of law I will pursue, I am open-minded to various areas and am excited to be exposed to them throughout law school.”
