@EmmaPradere942 wait I think I got it. that premise introduces/supports the conclusion by saying that the higher the gases the less the ocean would freeze and therefore that's why the author assumes that the carbon dioxide was higher back then

I'm so confused. I don't even understand why the stimulus added the part "Only if the level of greenhouse gases were higher 3 billion years ago than it is today would Earth have retained enough heat to keep the oceans from freezing." didn't the stimulus also say that "evidence shows that water rather than ice filled the oceans at that time." so???? like can someone explain this to me like I'm a middle schooler?????
