How is number 8 right? It says they are teachers of that particular occupation not actually part of the profession.

I thought it was A because the narrow floorboards surviving would make them better quality, hence why they were a status symbol for the wealthier houses. I don't understand why this is wrong reasoning.

It still seems like both of these sentences are just further pieces of context to me.

I'm thinking of it like:

Scientists have recently discovered a new way by which the plant can absorb phosphorous, a much-needed nutrient because wheat that grows near deserts has been observed to extract phosphorous directly from the dust covering its leaves.

That doesn't make sense to me and thus I'm thinking it is not an argument.

Any thoughts?
