I'm going to be the new Saturday BR Group leader! Hello, friends :) Except I won't be here next Saturday (November 5) cause someone scheduled work, why Boss why?

Yes, all my gifs will be Harry Potter related. :)

The Full Schedule

And if you’d like to see the full schedule for upcoming reviews, here it is: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=h14k4idvt1lb4hp5ujds97qt7k%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/New_York

Note:

  • For everyone: take the PT under timed conditions; BR as you are able on your own; then join us for all or part of the call—everyone is welcome.
  • Note: For the purposes of the call, we like to check our group blind review score together at the very end of the call :) So at least don't say ... "No guys, really, it's D, I checked it.” KEEP THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOURSELF. Win the argument with your reasoning.
  • These groups work best when folks from ALL stages of prep and with all different goals join in! Not just for "super-preppers" and definitely not just for the casual LSATer (does such a person exist?).
  • The only expectation anyone has for these calls is for you to have fun and ask questions as you desire. We are just a bunch of LSAT lovers who gather via GoToMeeting and intellectually slaughter each test.

    PT74.S1.Q16 - debater: as a pedagogical practice

    Hi folks,

I'm struggling with this question in BR. So I figured I'd post my reasoning and see what you all think of it.

    Debater:

Premise 1:Because lecturers are superior to students in mastery, lecturing requires hierarchy.

Premise 2: People learn best from peer interaction.

Conclusion: Hierarchy in lecturing is a weakness.

    Respondent:

Premise 1: Because teaching/learning requires simple to complex instruction, teaching/learning requires hierarchy.

Illustration of premise: In math, you must learn arithmetic before calculus.

Conclusion: Hierarchy in lecturing is a strength.

What the respondents' reply most vulnerable to criticism for?

There is more than one flaw, so I listed the ones I could see.

Flaw 1: Response does not address what is sufficient for a strength or defend against a weakness, it simply states that it is required.

Flaw 2: Requirement/necessity does not equal strength.

I'm sure there are more, but those were most obvious to me.

A: Initially I thought this was correct because I thought the argument ignored some assumptions of the debater. But it doesn't. When the debater assumes that peer interaction implies not hierarchy, the respondent responds all teaching/learning is hierarchical.

B: We must accept the premises as true so the argument did not assume that methods in math are as effective in other disciplines. It's an illustration of the premise. Eliminated.

C: Irrelevant to Respondent's argument. We are only talking about whether hierarchy is a strength or a weakness.

D: This is correct. They are talking about two different kinds of hierarchy. The first is lecturer to student hierarchy, the second is simple to complex material hierarchy!

E: Again, must accept premises as true.

Found the correct flaw! They're talking about TWO different kinds of hierarchy! Woo.

Wow. In the 30 minute process of typing this post, I figured it out. If this isn't a good advertisement for a damn good blind review process, I don't know what is. I started out defending A was correct, realized it was wrong, and figured out D was correct. Woo!

    One month left...

    Hello fellow September LSATters :)

What's your game plan for the next month?

My last two PTs (71,72), I scored a 173 and 172 respectively. I'd be BEYOND happy with that score on the actual LSAT. But I'm getting nervous about the actual test date and wanted to hear some thoughts on what might be the best way to embrace the final month. At the moment, I plan on PTing and BRing twice a week (expect the final week before test) with a day or two or timed-sections in between. Thoughts?

@ my Georgetown interview was a group practical interview, where we were given scenarios and asked questions about them to see our ability to cooperate with others and articulate ourselves. My Cornell interview was actually with just recorded videos of staff asking questions and then I had to record my responses. But the questions were fairly standard interview ilk. Asking you to reflect on experiences you have learned from. If there's a list of standard interview questions online, I'd practice those. They're trying to learn better who you are. On top of that, I'd make sure I have responses to questions like these: "Why this school?" or "Why law school?" or "What can you offer our school?" or "Why can our school offer you?"

To PT this Saturday or to not PT this Saturday?

    Hi Friends :)

I'm feeling pretty good and ready and confident for 9 *HOLY COW* days from now. Not feeling terribly enthusiastic about taking another PT this weekend. Not sure it'd be that useful. But still might for routine's sake.

What're your thoughts? Are you going to take a PT this weekend?

LG Bundle by Category or Random

As I've finished the curriculum, I'm beginning to heavily invest my time in fool-proofing. My big question is: should I drill extensively on categorized games (i.e. grouping, sequencing, in-out) or should I take a broader random game approach?

I worry that I'd lose some of the practice I'd gained in grouping games if I spend a few weeks on sequencing games specifically. It also just seems easier to start with PT 1 and go in order rather than sorting through all my PT PDFs for the right game at the right time.

I plan to first work by way through all LGs from 1-36 and then move onto more recent LG's once I've taken the clean PT.

Thank you for your thoughts on this! :)

Spoiler Alert: Westworld S01E10 & the LSAT

So, Westworld is a really good show. And it's kinda crazy too. Spoilers starting now:

In the season finale of Westworld, the hosts (robots) are finally set free to destroy their enemies (and makers), humans.

Yay, go team robots! But I find it a bit analogous to the LSAT and test day. Finally being set free to destroy our enemy (the LSAT).

But let's be honest, at the start of our LSAT journey, we look much more like this:

How did the hosts get from mechanical parts to this conscious and free? By suffering, they continually learned to understand their enemy.

Dr. Ford: It was Arnold's key insight, the thing that led the hosts to their awakening... suffering.

Cue the creepy Dr. Ford smile:

But he continues: You needed time. Time to understand your enemy. To become stronger than them.

So basically, don't take the test until you're ready! And you're gonna need (probably) a year.

And yes, as Dr. Ford says: And I'm afraid in order to escape this place, you will need to suffer more.

It's true. You will likely suffer more really hard NA questions, surprise LGs, and Eileen Gray-esque RC passages.

Sometimes it may feel like the LSAT is a big, scary thing that you're unsure you will ever see any other part of the world again.

But you'll have the last laugh: After all, these violent delights have violent ends.

Soon enough, you'll be free to destroy the LSAT.

    @ said:

Anyone care to delineate what is going on with Berkley on this list? Seems like quite a drastic drop. Berkley is my #1 school and what I am working towards getting into, so I always take note when I see them.

My best guess is that it's related to how others (law schools and judges/lawyers) evaluated Boalt in the aftermath of the scandal involving former Dean Choudhry. I don't think it should be a big factor as the scandal will likely dissipate in evaluators' minds. Plus, there are problems with the USNWR rankings, some of which hurt Berkeley more than others (i.e. LSAT/GPA). https://www.lstreports.com/guides/Value-of-US-News-Rankings/

I'm far more curious to see everyone's NALP (employment) reports and their new Law School Transparency scores. They should be out sometime mid-April.

Berkeley is still on par with much of the rest of the T13/14. I wouldn't read too much into this ranking drop. And for further context, here's the past five years of USNWR rankings in one chart (excluding the latest rankings): http://tippingthescales.com/2016/03/yale-crowned-top-law-school-2017-u-s-news-ranking/4/

    2 Quick Curriculum Questions

    Hi y'all,

I'm just getting started with 7sage and really love it.

    But I'm a little confused.

First, for the curriculum question videos (example: Holes in the Ozone - MSS Question) before the problem sets begin, are we supposed to just watch and learn or attempt the problem befor JY explains it to us?

Second, I know it's really early (planning on taking June), but I'm a little nervous about my results so far. Doing both timed and BR, I struggled with the final two Main Point problem sets (on Ultimate+).

Any advice or words of wisdom to either calm my nerves or improve my strategy?

    Thanks,

    Benjamin

Got to keep y'all on your toes. And I know it's sad that PT 79 hasn't been released yet, but...

Yes, I picked this PT just by putting my favorite number twice. Sometimes decisions are that easy. Like Sufficient Assumption questions should be.
