PT8.S1.Q14 - some policymakers believe

I have a real hard time seeing the correct answer on this one. The correct AC is (B). I chose (E). I really didn't like E, but AC (B) I only liked 1/2. The 2nd half of the answer, ..."to make up for the attendant loss is tax-revenues" threw me off. I dismissed it in the last second because the stimulus stated that there was a side benefit to the government in relatively small cost in lost tax revenues. The stimulus goes on to say that there was never a net gain since folks just transferred money from account to another, and overall personal savings was unchanged. So there is my issues. (B) says nobody is going to save more, (I agree) and it's not going to make up for the attendant loss in tax revenue. BUT, there won't be any loss in tax revenue, since no additional money is going to be put into personal savings. I'm interpreting "attendant" as accompanying. Where did I go wrong?

1st ever 170 on BR

I usually hate brags, but I just got my first 170 on BR, and I am ecstatic!!! I know its is still a ways off from getting that on my actual first go around (my average is 163), but I have never scored so high before timed or untimed. For once, I feel like it is possible I can get a great score. I am amazed at the progress I have made in the past 4 months with 7sage. The drills really helped me out, and the discussion boards also. No need to comment or complain, just wanted to share. That is all. :)

I will have problems if I missed something in the rules. The answer choice won't just jump out at me. What I do now to help is I'll read the whole thing first. Second, I'll write them down in short hand. Third, I'll reread and ensure I got the correct meaning, and compare again with the shorthand down. It also helps me memorize so I don't have to go back and refer for every question. I'll do up quick boards also (If I have the the time). Usually, I'll catch mistaken understanding of a rule or missed portion there also.

Missed registration date

I can't believe I missed the date to register. I honestly thought I had longer. I have no idea why. I am kicking myself. I can't talk to my family, or they are going to judge me for not marking my calendar. I am venting. February test here I come, and it looks like I will put off entrance until 2019. Good grief. I guess that'll give me some more time to save some money, and my kids will be a bit older also. I am so angry at myself.

PT12.S1.Q18 - lightning causes fire and damages

I had a problem with the answer choice on this one. I initially chose the correct answer of A, but on second thought, I eliminated because of "disadvantages". I went with E, because of Erik's conclusion that it was pointless = inconvenience rather than a benefit. I can't seem to reconcile the correct answer. It seems too strong in comparison with E.

I loved to play Puzzle Baron's Logic Puzzles before I started LSAT studying. It is exactly like the LG section, but is set up to show relationships, and how things affect other game pieces. That helped me initially understand what type of board I would need once I started studying. I do well on LG, but I practiced a lot, and I really like 7sage's advice. It helped with my timing, and it gave me a lot of good advice for (quickly) setting up boards and shorthand notes. Check out the book on amazon. I think it's like about $12, and there are several. I also play Sudoku, and that helped some also. It teaches again how to see relationships. Puzzle Barons is written similar to the LSAT LG, so I think that would benefit you more if you want a bit of extra help.

Review CC. I would focus on weaknesses once you start hitting in the 160s on timed PT. That way you know you have some stuff under your belt. I only go back and review CC stuff I don't normally miss after taking timed PT. I review weakly the stuff I have issues with. One week for Necessary Assumption, one week for Strengthen, and so on. I'll alternate it out with RC. I don't have issues with LG, but I'll still play games every now and then when I'm feeling like I need a bit of positive reinforcement.

Have you tried playing Puzzle Barron's Logic Games? It's a game book you can get from Amazon for about $13. I played them all the time before studying for LSAT. I have an average score of -0 to -3 on LG. They really are very similar and they help get the language down pat for the LSAT LG.

But otherwise, I would say ride out the WL. So many people decide not to attend the schools, so there's a good chance. Otherwise, take the July test and apply next cycle.

Good luck.

OK, I graduated from college almost 20 years ago. I have not worked in 3 years, I have been a stay at home mom. So, who can I ask to write my letter of recommendation? I'm not particularly involved with any group or church. I feel pretty sidelined for not being as outgoing or active in my community. I don't know about suddenly joining groups just to make some contacts to get that oh so needed letter. From what I hear, it's still pretty necessary to have at least 2 letters. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm doing the same thing, for the same reasons. I'm just plugging along. My PT scores are much higher then before my Dec. test, but I don't know. Sometimes, I just don't get a question's reasoning, and after a year of studying, I'm finally starting to grasp there are some things I just can't get.

I'm doing 2 PT a week, and reviewing my tests and doing the drills for 3 days.

It's been working ok for me. I go back and forth between 7Sage explanations and Manhattenprep. I did do the entire course though. I followed my syllabus timeline.

I do well on Logic Games, and my Logic Reasoning has improved tremendously. I'm still having issues with Reading though for some reason. Something I thought I would be good at.

I have a real hard time with this one. I keep reading this that the Resident is trying to convince others that this loss of the rural life is good. The correct answer choice is the assumption that they already feel that way. The "should consider" is just not sitting well with me. I chose E because it seemed like a natural connector for trying to convince someone who feels that they lost something is OK, but there really isn't any reason to feel bad because they don't have any financial hardships.

Art/Literature/History Passages

I have 2 degrees, in Art and History and I did well in both. I am absolutely the worst on both types of passages in the RC. Literature throws me sometimes, but not as consistently as the former. I know that bringing past knowledge can sometimes screw with you in answering the questions, but even topics I have no previous particular study, I still can't seem to grasp what they are asking me. I was wondering if there was any outside study guides anybody used that really helped them get a grasp on these types of passages? I am getting -0 on law and science passages, but blowing my score with -3 (timed) or worse on the passages I would've thought I would do well.

I took a break after December test, after doing much worse then my average score. I came back, and started doing rigid timed prep test one day. The next day I would do my Blind Review. The 3rd day I go through the ones I missed, and see where I went wrong. My RC score, which has always been my worse section, has now come down considerably. If I find myself having again a particular common set of LR questions I'm dealing with, I print out some of the problems per type and go through each one methodically looking at each of the wrong answers. I ID the conclusion, premises, flaw, assumptions, and then give reasons for or against each answer. LG has always been my strongest, so I will usually just keep my time on each one, and ones that I have issues with, I'll redo until I have the inferences down pat. There wasn't any reason for me to do the entire course again. Thankfully, some of the tests, I don't remember the questions since it's been awhile, so that helps, but even for the ones I do remember, I make sure to id the reasons why this is the correct answer vs the others. I now am focusing on my weaknesses, and my timing, rather then just learning the material.

Just a couple of the ones I've noticed today, but I've seen them elsewhere. I just wasn't sure if they were an LSAT writer's clue in narrowing my answer choices down when I see a double negative, I have good odds it's the correct answer.

After doing quite a few drills on N.A. questions, I've noticed that double negative answer choices seem to be answer of choice. Is this just a coincidence? Or am I seeing a trend?

As a paralegal, having worked with a number of lawyers, I would say no. It would be fairly uncomfortable, and might put your lawyer in an awkward position to have to say no. Plus, he might charge you for it!!!

Best to keep it to former professors or employers. If you did volunteer work or had some other association with a lawyer or judge, that would be appropriate.

It's name recognition and access to opening doors. It depends on what you want to do, and where you want to work. If you want to be on the Supreme Court, most likely you would want to go to a school that has access (professors, alumni, programs) that get you on the correct career path. If you are going to be a probate lawyer in West Virginia, then yeah, you don't need to spend $150K at Harvard. Just have a good idea of what you want to do, and how much you are willing to give up. I've worked for lawyers who went to very high tier schools, who didn't know shit. I've worked for lawyers who went to the State school part time at night, and were the best damn lawyers around.

It depends of where you want to work, and what you want to do. There are other considerations also, but really law school gets you contacts and opportunities. It doesn't make you a good lawyer. I've worked for crappy lawyers who went to top 5 schools in the world, and I worked with studied under lawyers who were phenomenal who went to law school at night at the state school ranked #135.

I look for modifiers as "clues" to discover the mystery of the passage. i know this sounds silly, but I have a tough time also. So as I am reading, I see, how many people thought this? Ohhh, some people thought this. How often did they see the results? Oh rarely. It keeps me involved in what is being said.

So this helps me, and as the previous commentator, I'll make side notes like, "how, The right answer, wrong view" that sort of stuff so it keeps it focused on what's going on where in the passage.

I'm not great at RC, but it's helped seeing the pattern of the passages also. For example, Phenomenon expressed. Opinion expressed. Another opinion in opposition. Author agrees with X. Support for X. How this ties into the original phenomenon. Final Author conclusion or consequence of supporting X. The LSAT bible does a good job of showing the different formats. Recognizing those helps answer a lot of the questions. 7sage does the same thing, but The LSAT Bible really put it into a clear format for me to see it.

Good luck, I know I need it with RC!!!

So I have been getting loads of emails from schools offering me scholarships based on my merit. But my LSAT score was crap and my GPA was average, and I've never applied. Is this just come ons or some sort of game? Is this some diversity program? Not one of the schools I am interested in has sent me anything, just a lot of little known schools.

I struggle, but I look for hidden modifier or qualifiers and I think of them as little clues as to figure out the argument or in my mind, "the game". I know it's silly, but it keeps my mind active, especially with some of the passages I have no natural interest in.

I buy my ink at 4inkjets.com and they are crazy cheap. I'll go through ebates to get the extra 10-15% back also. I've gotten one bad cartridge in all the years I've bought from them, so it's really good deal from the cost of Staples or whatever. Sometimes they are a little slow for shipping, but it's ok like 5-7 days.

For paper I'll use Staples or whoever when they are having a rebate deal, otherwise, I'll turn the paper over and use the other side for printing out new material.

I return my ink cartridges I purchased from 4inkjets to Staples because they'll give me $2 per cartridge. But, you have to spend $$$ to get your rebate card, so I try to only return when I'm buying paper.

I also changed my settings on my printer to print low resolution, and ink saving. I've heard it saves like 12% of the ink, but I don't know. If my resolution is too low, then it's hard to read.

I have a really hard time with C. Lin doesn't discuss anything to do with how little leverage the companies would have in regards to hiring of permanent replacements. Lin only mentions the companies would have sufficient leverage with hiring temp replacements. To me, it just sounds like Lin sidesteps David's concerns, and says there is an alternative choice the companies could do to maintain sufficient leverage. The conditional statement, doesn't seem like a guarantee of action on the part of the companies. If they don't hire temp employees, Lin doesn't give an opinion as to whether or not they won't have leverage with no permanent employees.

Just upgraded to Ultimate from Premium

So I just upgraded to the Ultimate for my last 4* weeks of study before the Dec. test. I saw my study schedule was updated, but now I feel at a loss at where to start. I bought the Ultimate for the newer PT, and I was really interested in the drills, but now there are extra videos/practices in the sections I've already completed. I really don't know where I should begin, any suggestions?

I can't see why B is not correct. B is exactly in the stimulus. Some members of the FVC have not rented more than 10 videos. The stimulus explicitly states that they have a condition for members who have not rented movies that they may pick their coupon @ Main St location. Why is there no inference that they have "some" members who have not rented more than 10 videos? I think there is more of an inference that this would be true if the FVC has an option for folks then there is an inference that Pat is not a member and can still receive the coupon. If FVC has an expectation that there are some who won't rent, why can't I?

Typically vs often

Is there any real difference for translation of typically vs often? For example:

"Typically, winners of Nobel prize for science are not motivated at all by love of discovery."

"And unlike professional scientists, who are often motivated by economic necessity or a desire for fame, amateur scientists..."

I've been translating both as "some" but I'm sort of questioning if it's a stronger "most" or even "all"?

I started with powerscore. Could not get how bored I was. Wasn't learning anything. I took a tutor class at the local community college, and the lawyer saod she used 7sage while she had studied for her LSAT. I started using it for LG hacks when I had bumps, and I liked the price of the initial package. I also use LSAT Trainer and Puzzle Baron.
