tips for doing this under time pressure? seems way too convoluted to do in the time you're likely to have at the end of a section.

of the hundreds of questions i've done in my two times taking this test, this might be my least favorite.

what really throws me off here is inferring that most mail is incorrectly addressed, since most mail arrives 3+ days after being sent. i kept thinking that we don't know how much mail is incorrectly addressed, because mail could arrive late for any number of reasons-- no postage, forwards, weather delays, etc.

where i went wrong there is that within the context of the question, i have to assume those are all still either correctly addressed or not; and if they are, they fall under the set of mail that mostly arrives within 2 days. so even if there's no stamp on the envelope or the apocalypse is happening, if the mail is correctly addressed, it's most likely to arrive within 2 days.

i am a mailman so maybe my own closeness to the subject matter threw me off!

this was an example of the answer choice actually cluing me into a key detail of the argument. i had initially not noticed that it was comparing a bone sample to a blood sample, i read it as "blood sample" for both. so when i read "bone," i thought, huh? why are they talking about bone samples here? i re-read the argument and saw the potential flaw.

in the prompt, the word "development" is used to mean, "to create." i.e., where there was no tradition, now we are developing one because of this work of literature.

in the answer choice, "development" is used in a more broad sense, in the sense of altering/augmenting.

when i encountered the answer choice i was trying to map the word "development" directly to the first meaning as used in the prompt, overlooking the more broad meaning. in a restricted meaning, failing that one condition wouldn't fail the test for world lit-- because either of the two remaining conditions could be true. it only fails if i interpreted it in the broad sense.

relying on two meanings of the same word seems exactly like the kind of flaw we're supposed to identify in other questions....

i think this would benefit from more explanation. in particular it was really hard to figure out WHAT the argument was. i thought the conclusion was: "i was late," because all the rest of the prompt look like premises in support of that conclusion:

maintenance --> parking lot closed --> needed more time to find parking --> late

sure, each one of those can be attacked as requiring assumptions. which is why i picked B, because if true it would strengthen the idea of finding alternate parking being difficult, and if false then it would weaken that claim.

how do you so quickly identify that we're trying to evaluate the claim about whether or not maintenance on a different day would have had the same effect? that seemed like an aside, like red herring information to me, not the main conclusion.

i've gone through the core curriculum and generally don't have too much trouble identifying the conclusions but this stumped me.

definitely would like a bit more explanation for this one than in the video explanation.

different foods are helpful for different health problems --> dietary needs vary widely from person to person

to me that clearly implies answer C. yeah it seems like a ridiculous claim to make, but i'm not supposed to judge that, am i? after all there are plenty of questions that contain ridiculous claims.

it would also seem that answer D would depend upon the truth of answer C:

if most fad diets prescribe a narrow range of foods, and dietary needs vary from person to person, then most fad diets fail to provide some people with adequate nutrients.

i guess i am simply not giving that "any" enough consideration!

i really misread the conclusion as being "lawmakers in democracies pay too little attention to the interests of these families." if i'd successfully identified the conclusion i think the answer would have been clear.

the reason i dismissed B was because of the "significantly greater" language. i feel stupid

the concession "if your principle is true" is what really threw me off.

just how in the world is "Nevertheless, the document has led, even if belatedly, to the creation of legally binding human rights conventions" not a direct consequence?!?!?!?!?!?!?

A led to B.... not a direct consequence... ok LSAC

got it wrong on the timed test and right in blind review where i simply decided that E wasn't enough of an "assertion."

the difficulty with this one was the term "more often." i took that to mean a ratio, a percentage. so when i saw A i dismissed it thinking that absolute numbers were irrelevant given that it was talking about a percentage. welp,

D was pretty attractive to me because it did seem to fit as a necessary condition in a causal chain. it took blind review to parse this argument structure and i feel completely unconfident i'll nail a question like this in 12 days :\

incredible win, you earned it. time to pop a bottle of bubbly and relax for a minute! inspiring me--- low 170s, hoping it climbs steadily for another week and a half :D

hey yall. so i think i waited too long to register for the remote test. the email says registration doesn't close until sunday, in one week, but there are no available times for any testing day.

anyone have experience with this? i called prometric and they said they'd be releasing more times tomorrow but i couldn't get any more information, just a suggestion to keep checking. which will work great as i'm at work for 10+ hours tomorrow.

i got a feeling i was just getting the brush off from prometric. so i'm wondering, has anyone been in my position? do they indeed release more available times or was that just to get me off the phone? how often should i be checking the scheduler? any advice in general?

important edit 10/27 10:13am

this morning I set up a thirty minute timer to check for more availabilities and sure enough after a couple tries i snagged my ideal time and date for a remote test.

so yes to answer my own question: keep trying!

i read too much into, "continues to rise as it has over the last ten years", followed by, "will not rise as quickly." to me it seemed to be making an absolute claim based on a change in rate. that is, i didn't think the conclusion followed that the magazine won't be the largest-selling martial arts magazine just because its rate of circulation has slowed-- it could still be outscaling any competitors.

for this reason i selected B, which was getting to the heart of what i was thinking the flaw was: a reduction in rate. i just didn't read the answers carefully enough, because i know i should have eliminated it due to the "decline in the magazine's circulation," which was never implied.

sorry but there is no amount of convincing that will get me to accept that E is a better choice than A here. in fact when i'm finally a lawyer i'm taking them to court over this question to argue my case. even if i can't prove outright that A is better, i'm confident i can prove it's at least as correct as E and they both require the same stretches of interpretation.

i picked E because it seemed a tighter match for the doctor's treatment: if inflammed --> cortisone. i do realize now that describing it as the "best" treatment kinda makes it irrelevant, and besides it doesn't address the main conclusion that inflammation was the cause and cortisone the solution.

i ruled out C because it seemed too obvious and too general. the placebo effect could be an answer in any case of medical treatment pretty much, so it didn't feel like it had much to recommend itself as a correct answer here.

kicking myself because i immediately went to D as the "obvious" choice but it seemed too simple to be true; i felt like there must be some complex grammatical trick in another answer choice that revealed a more potent flaw in the argument. nope. it is just as dumb as it first appeared.

27: i ruled out B because the final paragraph seems uncommitted to any particular suggestion. even though it does say that in one case where subjects have a concept of numerical quantity despite a lack of words, it supports a non-Whorfian view. however at the end of the paragraph it seems to say that, due to further evidence, there are any of three different conclusions that could be true.
