I just had an idea for how to define arguments. Arguments are premise + conclusion. Another way of putting it is that, arguments= the ask + why.

Because arguments want you to believe X, and so they provide a reason why. So if you look for the ask (e.g having IT lessons for children), then the why (to create a tech-savvy generation) becomes simpler.

The whole buckets and scoops analogy: here is how I understand it. Imagine that A is sugar cubes, B is an espresso shot and C is foamed milk

If you add "some" sugar (A) to an espresso (B), then it becomes espresso with sugar (B).

Then if you add the espresso with sugar (B) to foamed milk (C), it becomes a latte (C).

So you can say that there is some sugar (A) in the latte (C), because of the espresso with sugar (B) that was added to it.

Let me know if this makes sense to you:)

This made me think of an analogy from the legal show Extraordinary Attorney Woo. (SPOILER AHEAD)

There is one case where the main characters support villagers who are sueing the municipal goverment for building a road through their village.

Near the end of the case, the judge decided that based on whichever side got majority consent from the community (to build or not), he would decide the case that way. However, Attorney Woo finds out that an ancient tree in the village can be instated as a national heritage- and this would get destroyed through building the road. As harming national heritage sites is illegal, she found a way to save her case.

So the assumption that "Getting majority consent from the community will allow the road to be built" was made false, as the new national heritage site prevented this from happening. So the previous argument was made irrelevant.

I'm interested! My diagnostic score without logic games was 157. I am still going through the core curriculum but would love to join a study group. I am on Pacific Time as well but I am working full time from 8-4:30pm on weekdays. If it is after 4:30pm or on weekends, I would love to join!

This analogy has really helped me understand sufficiency vs. necessity. As my kitchen is in my house, being in my kitchen is sufficient to be in my house (sufficiency). And being in my house is necessary to be in my kitchen (necessity).

However, this is how you may confuse necessity with sufficiency. Being in my kitchen is not necessary to be in my house, since you can hang out in the dining room or living room, and still be in my house.

On the other hand, being in my house is not sufficient for being in my kitchen, since you can be anywhere else in my house instead of the kitchen (e.g especially if I barred you from entering the kitchen).

I hope that helps y'all!
