I was stuck between B and C. I chose B b/c the stimulus and the answer Choice B have the similarity in that they deal with thing thins that are happening in the present or the past. Leaving their arguments completely valid. C is very also very valid. However, the conclusion talks about an event that is posterior to the poll talked about in the premises leaving the crazy possibility that by the time the election came the people whom lived outside of the city could've moved into the city and the conclusion wouldn't follow.Pulling for teeth on how to eliminate one of the answer choices. I still like my reasoning better than the LSAT's reasoning on this one. lol...

new logic games set up ( with pic)

can someone please confirm this is how logic games are set up now http://imgur.com/DtBikmY. There have been multiple posts and understandably so. I believe a picture speaks 1000 words. If this pic is correct, it appears to have like an elongated horizontal 3/4 length of blank page under all the questions ( making flipping between a game unnecessary). does anyone think incorporating a page folded like this to logic games (http://imgur.com/saO3sxV) while P'Ting would be a bad idea. Although it is lose, it seems to give a semi-representation of an actual situation. I don't think having the same amount of space though on the actual age on the actual test day will be that much of a negative difference, how bout guys. If someone has a better idea i'm opening to listening to it. wat do u guys think?? any thoughts?

"despite, even though..."

In AP type questions, what would ideas introduced with these types of phrases be considered? Conceding points that would seem contrary to the conclusion being argued for yet implied that they are not sufficient to wreck the conclusion the author is going for? in other words, points of concession?

on Most strongly supported you have to ease up a little bit. Look at the stimulus. People who are allergic to cats are allergic to certain proteins in animal's skin secretions and saliva. The next idea should be a different sentence but its poorly written. The next idea: (paraphrased) the particular proteins that are responsible (for the allergic reaction) vary from allergy suffer to allergy sufferer. Every cat can spread saliva and secretions. Every cat can provoke an allergic reaction. It is common common for cats to cause allergic reaction in certain people and not in others.

This directly supports that cats might vary in the proteins in their secretions that are giving rise to varying allergic reactions. That is not to say no cat can elicit an allergic reaction in every allergy sufferer. To get this you would need a sentence like "every allergy sufferer isn't allergic to at least one cat." This is not stipulated.

RC tutoring from 7sage

Has anyone tired the RC tutoring from "Graeme Blake- "a tutor form 7sage ( you can find him under the resources tab and sub-tab tutoring ). It suggest people do at least one hour with him specifically in regards to RC. Im just wondering if anyone tried this. If so what they thought? I need get my RC score up! lol. I have gotten my LR and LG scores to consistently to reach the bare minimum of what i want them to be. But my RC section is lacking in this consistency and i n general accuracy. I'll do anything to improve my RC correctness by like 35% lol!

Thanks to future respondents

Motivation for Dec. Testers

Hi guys, I've been a member of 7sage for over a year, and am taking the test December 6th. I have found that I really enjoy watching "inspirational" videos. I recently found one I found particularly nice and helpful. I am going to post it here. I particularly like the part at the beginning talking about the illusion of "perfect timing" for "great moments." Additionally, there is a part that mentions an African proverb which says, " If there is no enemy inside, then no enemy from without can cause harm." The video also talks about facing uncertainty, etc. Anyway, maybe it will help another out there preparing for the test on Dec. 6. Also, please add to this post things of this nature. I think it would be really nice to have a post of things like this. Some people may find the video cheesy, but anyways, I really like it. Good luck, guys.

General Initial Recording of Rules

I don't know if anyone has this problem and I know the obvious answer to this question would be to just slow down and take more time but I was wondering if anyone finds themselves repeatedly mis-recording rules - messing up something very simple - such as replacing one variable letter with another. I am finding I don't miss infrences as much as I make a dumb mistake such as mis-recording a rule under timed conditions. It is problem, i believe, directly related to trying to get down the rules as fast as possible in order to give myself the most amount of time on the game. However, one slip in the smallest detail while recording the rules can destroy your timing if you have to go back once its been noticed (which is almost always the case, lol). If anyone has had this problem and had any specfic drill, exercies, w/e, that they used to over come it, I would be more than willing to hear them out about it.

Thanks

Jake.

I think D is honestly kind of tricky. Robinson does say that Maxwell's claim is false, and gives a reason completely separate and apart from Maxwell's reason for supporting his conlcusion. I originally chose answer B then switched to D. I thought maybe Robinson doesn't have to address Maxwell's reasons, and has other reasons supporting the logical opposite of Maxwell's conclusion. Kind of suggesting Robinson didn't believe Maxwell's argument to be sufficient. But D says Robinson came to this conclusion on these grounds (the insuffucient grounds) which isn't really accurate here. Robinson came to his conclusion on his own premises which completely ignored his adversary Maxwell's argument....

I think a MSS supported answer choice for this question could be Robinson doesn't believe Maxwell's premises to be sufficent in justifying Maxwell's conclusion...

However that is not how Robinson came to reaching his conclusion...

pause button short cut key for videos?

is there a short cut key that allows you to pause a video while you're scrolled down below the box the video is being played in (say b/c you're taking notes but after the answer choice of interest has stopped being talked about you want to pause the video). this is a very particular and perhaps unnecessary question but it would probably save a me several minutes over the span of a couple hours.... lol

To clarify regarding the Blind Review Method. As you take a timed section/test, what have you, you're going through picking the right answers and eliminating the wrong ones. Sometimes you cant cross out a an answer 100% (or near) during the timed conditions. BR stipulates that ONLY after you're done time-testing MUST you go back through and find concrete reasons (100%) for the wrong and the right answer choices, correct? After doing such, if you are able to come up with 100% certainty for correct and incorrect answer choices, and you end up getting the question right, you do not need to watch the video, right? When i'm going through a test or section i naturally cross off wrong answers; however, on the ones i do not get to do this (or near) due to timed conditions (the ones where i pick best answer and move on) - if i can after, on the BR, find reasons for the correct and incorrect answer choices then i should feel "good" for that question, correct? Essentially, it is not about being able to mark off w/ near 100% during the timed condition, just on BR, right? I love the BR. I feel it has contributed GREATLY to my improvement. However, I don't want to waste time watching explanations if I really am probably alright with being able to eliminate w/ "100%" under BR even though not always under timed conditions. It might be more prudent to progress. Thanks for any clarification

I don't see how the logic in answer choice A and E are different? A says: (sentence one): /increase study time → /increase grade. (sentence two): /time management →/increased study time.

E says: (sentence one): /well designed →/harmonize. (sent. two): /expensive to construct →/well designed.

Answer choice A actually introduces intersection "some logic" by saying SOME students increased their grades: Students some increase grade →increase study time→increase time management. Therefore, students some increased time management. Valid.

E also gives a valid conclusion : /easy to construct →/harmonize.

E and the stimulus have the similarity of NOT having intersection "some logic."

Help please.

Thank you.

i feel like the difficulty in the reading comp has increased with the newer tests (espc. in terms of the question and answer choices); the difficulty in logic games has decreased; and more grey are has come in the logical reasoning sections. Here I mean the things i am getting wrong are not so much problems with logic or things we learned about in the course but with subtle nuances or interpretations of a word -things i consider more grey than questions from the older PTs . Does anyone else share this sentiment? I am only on Pt 54. If you are futher along and agree (or disagree) are there any further changes in the pattern of the test ( assuming you agree there has been changes) or is 54 about represantive of the most recent tests? I want to use my time to study the most representative old tests of the newest tests. So if 54 is very similar to the newest tests ill cont in my chronological taking of the Pts. If 54 is not really representative, then ill consider jumping forward to allocate my time most effectively given the amount of time i have left if i take the test in June.

Much appreciation,

Jake.

Identifying question "stems" for R.C.?

Hello anybody,

I just recently started studying for R.C. In LR, I found "identifying" question stems extremely helpful. It helped me tunnel mind for what I was looking for thus allowing me to eliminate incorrect answer choices more quickly. I am wondering if doing this is possible for R.C.? Are there groups of words that are sufficient for identifying all the different types of questions in the R.C. section? Thanks in advance for any future input.

Looking a study buddy in the Indy area, but am open to studying with others via Skype. I am pretty dedicated and looking for person with whom I and he/she can keep each other focused when we get antsy and want to go do other things. Also bounce ideas and problems off each other. if anyones interested let me know!

Best,

can someone remind me of the strategy for attacking Rc questions under timed conditions. When we see an answer we think is right are we supposed to go with it (b/c the amount of words in this section and time). This entails little checking of other answers underr timed conditions and is a little different from lg and lr in this sense). (after time stops ticking you go back and heck your answers though, like a br type of thing).

thanks,

Jake

For the record, during the test I could not pick a single answer for number 13 and I also got 13 wrong on BR. For 13 Answer (A) we cannot use the fact that Cameron used ordinary people documenting extraordinary events to support (A)'s general claim. How can we use the fact that in the particular way that Cameron took certain pictures - i.e. dressing people up - taking the pictures might've taken a long time support answer (E). (E) says, generally, in Cameron's Era it took a long time to take a picture. How can we generalize from possibly long-natured photographs Cameron might have taken?Flatly do not get this. Its not like the passage said due to camera technology available to Cameron, she spent much time with her subjects in taking photographs.

A problem with E is that it presupposes the truth of being able to distinguish between false and real needs which the author is in disagreement with. I chose this answer.

13 A is tricky in that the idea is right next to the place in line 54 in which intentionally commodified games are mentioned. The passage doesn't actually say A is a characteristic of intentionally modified games however. Rather, the passage says IF such a real world sale using virtual currency takes place in an intentionally modified game then it should be taxed universally (L55). There exists a connection between line 54's "intentionally commodified games" and " encouraging real world trade in virtual items ( Line 1-2)." Encouraging real world trade in virtual items (L1-2) is essentially, "commodifying" the item (L 54). A characteristic of these games is "being granted intellectual property in the game's virtual creations ( L3 - L4) Answer choice, D. Its the difference between the characteristic (granted intellectual property) of the game ( commodifying games) and a way in which an action (selling an item for virtual currency) is handled in regards to such a game( commodifying games).

reading comp practice sets?

Hi 7sagers,

I feel as thought having the ability to practice RC sections indivdually would help greatly. As I am going through PTS, after each one, i think about what went wrong and practice to improve it. this could be like a certain type of game, or type of qustions (i.e. most strongly supported). Id like to be able to have a bunch of old RC sets to practice with in hopes of improving timing. 7sage doesn't offer such adons or include them in updated packages. Has anyone bought something like this anywhere?

Thanks,

Jake

Idk if there others out there like me that love the practical-mechanical type indicator word exercises 7sage offers. For instance, the conditional indicators offered in the logic section of the course (“always, never, etc.”). These words have helped tremendously with speed and has taken a person who thought he could never get a logic game done in less than 20 minutes to this section being one of his most consistently highest scoring sections. The route application of these words helped, (I guess my intuition in regarding these words was flawed). After repeated application with right instruction, intuition carried me forward.

Anyways, I HATE making stupid mistakes in recording rules in logic games and these little errors an otherwise relatively easy game ugly. Some times I mess up recording sequencing rules. For instance, mis-recording the 5th of 6 rules in game : “P comes before C but after L” as P-C and P –L .” The correct translation is “L-P-C.” I always wished there was a way to record these rules without thinking, kind of like applying the logical indicators in in a quick-fire, low thought kind of way.”

I was thinking of a method of using relative chronological sequencing indicator words in hopes it would give a sort of quick fire application type of thing like conditional indicator words. I came up with a something that has 2 aspects.

Like Jy says “relationships are relational.” Arguments are premise conclusion support relationships; sufficient necessity relationships are just that etc. So too, are Sequencing relationships relating two idea to one another in a chronological relationship.

I believe there are Two types of situations regarding sequencing. One in which a quality in a game is being measured and one in which an inherently chronological order exists from left to right (often temporal chronology). The first scenario is discussed first. And has a little more variance than the 2nd scenario.

1st Scenario

In a mock logic game, say you are recording productive teams from most productive to least productive”

Most Product ___ ____ _____ ____ ____ ___ _ Least productive

By imagining an imaginary line in the middle of the board “ __ __ ___ l ___ ___ __ “ you can give yourself a benchmark. Then you can let the phrase in the rule (discussed just below) serve as introducing a relata/idea in this relationship that you visually hold on to and write down. The other idea/relata you throw toward the side of the bench mark indicated by the word in the introduction phrase.

Ex:

Most Product ___ ____ _____ ____ ____ ___ _ Least productive

“Team L is more productive than Team Q”

In this situation you can let the end of phrase (more productive than) give you the idea/reala to hold on to visually in your head. In this situation you visually hold on to Q, and write it on your paper. In relation to your imaginary benchmarks, look toward the quality dictated in the phrase (here, more productive). Throw the other idea toward the direction of the quality dictated in the phrase.

Ie. Write Q, I look to the left of the benchmark ( to the most productive side) and throw the other idea (L) to the left of Q (toward side in which the phrase talks about)

Written product: ( L – Q).

Z less productive than T.

Hold on to T; write T

Less productive is right of benchmark

Throw other idea (Z) on that side.

Written product: T – Z.

Essentially, if you establish a board up front, let the end term give you idea to hold on to and throw other idea on correct side of this idea in dictated by the bench mark and the board hen recording of the rules could be mechanical and quick maybe..hopefully?? I’m opening to hearing what you guys think

If the game was ranking from least productive to most productive, the method could still hold.

Least Product ___ ____ _____ ____ ____ ___ _ Most productive

“Team L is more productive than Team Q”

Let the end of phrase give you the idea/relata to hold on to visually in your head (Q). Write idea on your paper. In relation to your imaginary benchmark look toward the quality dictated in the phrase (here, more productive).

Look to most productive (the most productive is on the right) and throw the other idea to that side (L)

Written product : Q - L

as a general rule of thumb, what do you guys do regrading watching video explanations after a PT? I know you watch videos you missed on BR. What about the ones you changed and got right under BR or the ones you didn't have time to get to but got correct? In the interest of time you think its okay to not watch those videos... I know the BR instructions says we don't need watch those videos, but the little cursor msg in the PT thing says that I should sometimes lol
