Question 10: Came down to answer choice A and C. Chose answer choice C. C is simply incorrect because it is too narrow. This is the second time you have made this mistake of choosing an answer choice in a primary purpose of the author question that is TRUE, but not the primary purpose. What was your thinking in choosing answer choice C? I knew that in order to determine the primary purpose of the author that I needed to look to the second paragraph. Where I went wrong was in telling myself that because answer choice C was mentioned in the first sentence, then that was the primary purpose of that piece of the passage. While it may often occur that the first sentence sets the passage up for what is going to be talked about, this passage is different because what the author does in the second paragraph is address different points that the critics made. But it is done in one paragraph. If this were split into different paragraphs with the author addressing different points, you would have knew answer choice C was TOO NARROW because it only addressed one paragraph. It is the same here. The authors points are infused into one large paragraph and your job is to come away from that paragraph and ask yourself what is the overarching theme of this paragraph and what was the author doing as a whole. This is what answer choice A hits at. It encapsulates the entire paragraph. In doing that it also encapsulates answer choice C as well. Pay attention when you are down to two attractive answer choices in both main point questions and author primary purpose questions. Ask yourself, does this answer encapsulate this other answer that I think is attractive as well. If it does, it most likely the correct answer though the other answer may be indeed true.
Question #2: Came down to AC B and AC D, chose B first, but ended up going with D. What made B unattractive that made me choose D?
What made B unattractive was the part of the answer choice that stated, "the relief agency provides temporary shelter immediately after a flood...." -- this made me think that the relief agency was doing exactly what the issue was as stated in paragraph two. However, with a closer look at the answer choice, what I missed was that the first part of the sentence, "Following a plan developed several years ago by a relief agency in consultation with donors and community members, (CHECK. CORRECT), was the QUALIFIER of the second part of the sentence, "the relief agency provides temporary shelter immediately after a flood and later helps rebuild houses destroyed by the flood." So this relief that was provided immediately after, was relief that was discussed before hand between the relief agency and the community members. THAT is why this is the correct answer.
Why made D attractive? D was attractive because I felt as if it met the marks as stated in the passage. Donors delay assistance to get a better understanding of what the community needs. But this is incorrect because the passage is not saying that they do not want immediate assistance, the passage wants you to make the inference that WE DO WANT IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE, but we need this assistance to be what WE NEED and this should have already been planned and prepared BEFORE HAND (Line 35). Coming in after the flood is not the answer. That is why this answer is incorrect.
So what do we do when we come to this point where two answer choices are attractive and you feel as if you are understanding the passage and the answer choices? Realize that you are misunderstanding one of the two or possibly both. Most likely the former. In this case, you were more so misunderstanding answer choice B. Make sure you are paying attention to punctuation and the flow of sentences. When you are at this point, it is time to move on, and then come back, RELAX, and reassess. Most importantly, trust your gut.
Came down to C and A with question four. My thought process with answer choice C was that generational conflict was not the same thing conflict between age groups. I thought it was a way of tricking me into picking answer choice C. For answer choice A, I had NO idea what inimical meant. So what do you do if you are in a situation, which I am sure you will be in the future, where you come down to an answer choice that has a word in which you have no clue what it means and it is difficult to infer, and answer choice where you sense there is some ambiguity? It is probably wiser to go with the answer choice with the ambiguity. You do not know what the answer choice with the term you do not know MEANS. So it is probably better to go with the answer choice that you have some sort of grasp on, though you are unsure about it. Trust that you have come down to this answer choice for a reason. You may miss it, but if you cannot 100000% percent eliminate the answer choice that has some ambiguity, it simply makes sense to eliminate the answer choice that you have no clue what it means because of a word in it.
Question #9. Chose E. Why is E incorrect?
You were asked to identify the primary function of the third paragraph. You can think of this in the same way that you think of the main point questions. In main point questions, you are able to identify when an answer choice is too narrow and thus incorrect -- meaning it did not encapsulate ALL of the passage. The MAIN POINT. In answer choice E, YES -- this was mentioned, but they are asking you the PRIMARY FUNCTION of the entire passage. E is only talking about a piece of the third passage. In questions like these, look to find the main conclusion in the passage and determine how this is linked with the rest of the passage. ALSO, your low resolution summary of, "situational factors not everything." Also caught the function of the third passage it was just stated differently in the answer choices. Trust your low resolution summaries and allow them to assist you when you need them. Make sure you are understanding what your answer choices are actually saying, "show that there are instances of code switching not explained by the factors discussed in the previous paragraph." THIS MEANS, "show that there are instances of code switching not explained by SITUATIONAL FACTORS" The same as your LR summary,: Situational factors not everything.
Trust your instincts!
Question #7. Came down to answer choice A and D. Chose incorrect answer D. Why is D incorrect?
When you are asked to determine the function of a certain set of lines, there are a few things you must do. Identify what the main point or the main conclusion of the particular paragraph that the lines come from and then determine how exactly those few lines relate to that main point. Typically these types of questions are testing to see whether you can understand passage structure. If after identifying the MP or MC, you still cannot choose between two answer choices, view the paragraph and the lines in question in the context of the passage as a whole. Why would the author be refuting something if there was no argument present? You could have eliminated D off the bases of understanding this was not an argumentative passage but rather an informative one. When you are finishing the passage, always ask yourself what is the general structure of the passage? This will help to eliminate trap answers that imply the author is working in a type of passage structure that he/she was not working in to ever begin with.
Wow. This passage made no sense to me at all.....
Does anyone have any examples of a question that shows selection bias in the stimulus as the flaw?

Question 24: One of the things to recognize about this question and the previous question is the way the question is worded. Here, you are asked to provide an answer that the, "passage provides evidence to suggest" --- so when you are coming to picking the correct answer choice, you must understand that the correct answer choice is directly suggested by the passage. I chose incorrect answer choice E because it seemed as if this was an inference that I could make from the passage. Why is this approach wrong? This is wrong because one, you are asked to find the answer that is directly suggested from the passage. So even if you did think answer choice E was correct, where was the direct evidence that you were using to support this answer choice? You did not look to find it, you simply assumed it was correct. You eliminated answer choice B because this was not explicitly stated in the passage however, it was SUGGESTED in line 37. This would have been the support you used to justify answer choice B. When you are faces with these types of questions where they mention the evidence or the answer being found in the passage, you MUST find the evidence and PROVE your answer to be correct. Even if you think you are certain about the answer. FIND IT and MAKE SURE you are CORRECT.
