Is there any benefit to taking july or is it too late and might as well wait for the next one if it's the next cycle anyway?

I don't think taking in July is too late. Applications open up in September, and if it so happens that after the July exam you need to retake, at least you still have a few more options like the September exam which still gives you time to submit your applications early.
