Your application must include a personal statement. Your personal statement gives us a chance to learn more about you than may be apparent from the facts and figures included in the remainder of your application. Your personal statement will help us further evaluate your potential to succeed at Alabama Law and in the legal profession, your potential to contribute to the rich intellectual life of the Law School community, and your commitment to using your legal education to serve the public good. Your personal statement will also serve as a writing sample, allowing us to evaluate clarity, persuasiveness, thoughtfulness, organization and other writing skills. The subject matter of the essay is entirely up to you. For inspiration, you might consider addressing lessons that you have learned based on your unique life experiences or reasons that you have chosen to pursue a legal career. Again, however, the substance of the essay is entirely within your discretion.

Please limit your personal statement to 2-3 pages, double space, and use at least 11-point font.

If there is any information in your application you wish to clarify (particular grades, standardized testing scores, gaps in employment, etc.), you may provide that information here.

Please submit a résumé that includes any employment, honors, activities, and community and volunteer service. If you have had multiple employment experiences, include at least your last three positions of full-time employment, including summer employment.

2. Have you ever been disciplined, warned, reprimanded, placed on academic probation or disciplinary probation, suspended, expelled, removed (by trespass warning or otherwise), or requested or advised to withdraw, by any college, university, or other postsecondary institution or are you currently the subject of any pending or expected disciplinary action by an academic institution?
3. Have you ever received a restraining order, protective order, no contact order, or similar directive to avoid contact with a group or individual? If you have received a mutual no contact order as a supportive measure, please indicate that in your statement.
4. Have you ever been dismissed or discharged due to job-related misconduct, or are you under a pending investigation (internal or external) regarding job-related misconduct?
5. Have you ever been subject to disciplinary sanctions while holding a professional license or are charges pending, which could result in such an outcome? (Check "No" if you have never held a professional license.)
6. Have you ever been cited for, arrested for, charged with, or convicted of any crime other than a minor traffic violation? You should disclose this information even if the charges were dismissed or you were acquitted, the conviction was stayed or vacated, or you were told you need not disclose this information. Do not include parking violations and speeding citations of 20 mph or less over the limit.
7. Have you ever been cited for, arrested for, charged with, or convicted of any traffic violation that was alcohol- or drug-related? You should disclose this information even if the charges were dismissed or you were acquitted, the conviction was stayed or vacated, or you were told you need not disclose this information.
8. Are you currently the subject of pending criminal charges or an indictment, or subject to arrest for a crime?
