A Personal Statement is required.

This section is optional.

All applicants are invited, but not required, to submit an additional essay that addresses one of the following prompts. The additional essay should not exceed two pages.

• What, if any, connections do you have to the state of South Dakota or the region? Why are you interested in USD Law?
• How do you envision leveraging your JD to contribute to creating a more equitable society?
• What personal experiences or aspirations motivated your decision to pursue a legal education?
• What unique qualities or experiences do you bring to the table as an applicant, and how do they distinguish you from others?

1. Have you ever been charged or convicted of any felony or misdemeanor, petty or other offense, including moving traffic violations? Include all incidents no matter how minor the infraction, whether expunged or suspended imposition of sentence. Juvenile proceedings must be included.

2. Has any higher education institution, professional licensing organization, governmental or administrative agency (including any branch of the Armed Forces) or employer ever taken disciplinary action (including, but not limited to, reprimand, revocation, less than honorable discharge, academic probation or suspension) against you?

3. Have you ever applied for or held any license that has required proof of good character (i.e., lawyer, certified public accountant, insurance agent, real estate broker, etc)?

4. Have you ever been a party to any civil lawsuit and/or violated any order of a court, including child support orders?

5. Are there any outstanding civil judgments against you?

6. Have you ever filed for bankruptcy or been adjudged bankrupt?

7. Are there any facts not disclosed by your previous answers that may bear on your moral character and fitness for the study of Law?

If you answered "yes" to any of the Character and Fitness questions, you must attach a letter of full explanation as an attachment.
