Quick Tip: Identify Trends in Wrong Answers
An important part of the LSAT study process is reflecting upon your incorrect answers. But that does not mean focusing on why the answer choices are simply right or wrong – but why you chose an incorrect answer.
To aid your study process, identify trends in your wrong answers. A great place to start is identifying the part of the question answering process that is leading you most astray. You can keep track of this information in a wrong answer journal. Simply knowing if you get answers wrong because of the question stem, stimulus, or answer choices provides a great foundation from which you can create drills to attack these specific areas.
Developing Strategies
There are countless different section strategies that various students have been successful with over the lifetime of the LSAT. The only strategy that is unlikely to work is a strategy that does not exist at all. As you consider how you approach each of the three LSAT sections, make sure you are identifying an explicit step-by-step process for breaking down passages, games, and stimuli.
The reason we need to develop a specific section strategy is due to the time constraint of the LSAT. We have very little time to figure out the problem within various questions. Ideally, we don’t want to spend precious moments debating which elimination strategy to pursue.
Finding your ideal LSAT strategy also means trying out a multitude of tactics. Humans are creatures of habit and it is difficult to experiment with strategies outside of our comfort zone. For instance, if you have never given much thought to the exact things you are highlighting or summarizing in an RC passage, you may be neglecting a function-based strategy you had not previously considered.
This week, challenge yourself to explicitly identify and stick to your personal strategy for each individual LSAT section.
