Technically this is true but the main difference is a resume is very brief and should be two pages maximum while a CV is very in-depth and more often than not exceeds two pages. For example, a professor of a university will have a CV while someone fresh out of undergrad will usually have a resume :)
Resume is a CV. CV is a more european form of a resume, with slight changes in format. CV is a name for resume used in UK mostly. In case of your professor, I am sure he/she refers to regular resume.
If you have a resume that can also work instead of a CV.
