Was debating between C and D and chose C. C is wrong bc the stimulus never describes the conditions under which a certain process (the process being species alter their environment in ways that aid their own survival).
Premise 1: HBP -s-> treated with medicine
Premise 2 contrapositive: not treated only by reduction of stress -> not caused by stress
Conclusion: HBP -s-> not caused by stress
The author is able to reach the conclusion only because they assumed HBP that treated with medicine = NOT treated only by reduction of stress (in other words, the two boldened phrases are equal).
This is why E is correct.
lowkey I think choosing E also needs us to assume that people the new strain has infected are NOT the same people infcted by the old strains of flu... Otherwise the conclusion does not hold.
I am confused how we know that contemporary novels do not allow readers to enter the internal world of the author?
chose D because of the last sentence of the stimulus: i thought no difference between stating and failing to state means that Sanderson would've lied to his cousin even if his cousin asked him, but apparently the last sentence is just trying to establish that failing to state also counts as lying
@gobulldogs lowkey me too and that's why i chose E, but E also does not make any sense.
@JoyelleBaek I think you got the logical chain wrong. A is saying if not specifically mention illiteracy, then characters are presumed to know how to read, which is consistent with the stimulus. unless is the same as if not
A is saying not earmarked in advance -> cannot donate. Since the director did not earmark the fund would be used for other animal shelters (bc he only earmarked it for Pinecrest Animal Shelter), even though he obtained permission from the donors, he still couldn't donate the surplus fund. It is very restrictive.
B on the other hand allows the director to ask for the opinion of donors.
the assumption is clearly stated (willingness to pay shows that they really need those goods). is it still called an assumption???
i am so dumb for thinking "them" refer to the critics instead of the frescoes...
@JoshuaJJauregui i think E refers to a different principle, since "variety of possibilities somewhere between the two extremes" is not at the beginning of the pasage....
"However, it is not clear how far this outlook extended beyond these activists."
For question 7, I initially picked D but changed to B in BR. I think what D bothered me was "dispute," but when i think about it now it is indeed a dispute between union workers and the American company. B is too general and does not capture the core identity of the Koreans visiting. They are union workers which is why their visit had such a strong impact on the Korean American community
@7SageTutor wow the explanation for why E is wrong is perfect! Thank you so much!
@ionicinstinct The other siblings in the metaphor are the other elementary particles imo. the last sentence says that these cosmologists believe that learning about the role neutrinos can help them "understand the role elementary particles play in holding the universe together. In other words, if the neutrino theory is true, then the dark matter might consist of other elementary particles.
Another piece of evidence why passage B is intended for the general audience is the second part of the first sentence "and now scientists think they know why."
lowkey B does not explain why X Y Z decreases faster than P-plankton, but D kinda does. Which was why I chose D initially.
are you looking to apply this cycle? I personally think that you should sign up after you can score in the 173ish range stably for a while
