A critique about the explanations is its very obvious they know the answer and why its wrong, so the explanation just feels like 'think this way' rather than actually TEACHING. Its getting annoying lol

I can definitely tell I'm fatigued and should call it a night lol.

I debunked B-E and forgot there was an A and had no idea what to pick. During blind review, I don't even know why I skipped A either lmao. Ugh I definitely could have gotten it right I believe!

Watching the explanation made me realize I made an assumption about A. In my perspective, "a tiny percentage" in relation to the universe mass could still be a huge number. It kind of feels I thought of it as "many = large amount".

I was overthinking my reasonings trying to do POE. Anyone have any tips to stop doing that esp with POE?

Today, I learned I've been using the word "inferior" wrong, hence why I missed this question. I actually thought they both agreed that his writing was good; as a result, I was SUPER confused about what the answer was.

I genuinely feel so stupid considering the word "superior" exists, and I know exactly what that means. The fact no one has corrected me all my life, and I never pieced this together, is honestly insane.

Despite reading the comments and trying to make sense of why C wasn't right, it finally clicked. What made it more clear to me is understanding the difference between neighbours and neighbourhood.

The stim clearly states satisfaction with their income largely comes from the comparison with their neighbours NOT neighbourhoods at large.

C goes from "neighbour's incomes" to "neighbourhood/same economic class"

Note: living in the same neighbourhood doesnt mean you have the same income, just that you're in a similar economic class.

@I Am Smartacus The stim says people live in neighborhoods of people from the same economic class.

So if yours increased by $900,000 and everyone else was by $1. It simply means you live in a neighbourhood were people have the same type of income as you. What if someone else was making $899,999 and got a $1 raise? They could still be in your neighbourhood.

Remember, we're not comparing to people generally on earth. We are comparing to neighborhoods. So it's important not to make unnecessary assumptions, rely on the facts in the stim. If this was a MBT question, it'll me more different.

My issue was actually with C.

@Lawlow After doing more lessons, I can confidently say to ONLY use this method if you're really on a time crunch.

I see now that even sub-conclusions can also follow this same type of wording. So if the sub conclusion is an answer choice, you'll get it wrong; otherwise, it will make you double think. So far, going with my initial gut has been rewarding! If anything, maybe just skim the rest.

@tiramistudy Thank you for bringing me back to this!! I understood why they used ABC which is really helpful for just understanding the basics. It was definitely a long study day for me cause I easily understood that right now.

Good luck with studying as well!

I understand the logic behind this stim. My issue is with the lawgic. If I did it myself, I would've done:

Premise: NYP → PV ‑m→ /EG

Conclusion: NYP ←s→ /EG

Though, in the lesson, 'C' was not negated. I'm not sure if i'm not getting it or i've been reading too long today. #help

@hectordbc This is interesting. From my perspective, this was more of a superlative claim.

It doesn't say A is better than B.

Let’s say someone says: "Alice is the fastest runner in the school."

That means: Alice runs faster than everyone else — no ties allowed.

So if Bob runs just as fast as Alice, the statement is false. If Bob is just as fast as Alice, then Alice is not faster than Bob — meaning the original claim is false.

So: Saying "Alice is not the fastest runner" means: someone is faster or tied — same idea with chess.

I hope this makes sense or that i'm right. #feedback #help

@TSpriester "Chess is the most appropriate analogy ..." you just need to say "Chess is not the most..." This is a proper negation because it means either something else is a better analogy than chess, or something else is equally good — both of which would make the original statement false.

Remember most is 51%+, not just 50%. But in logic and especially in statements like:

  • "X is the most appropriate" it doesn’t refer to percentages.

Instead, "most appropriate" means:

  • X is better than all the others (no one ties or beats X). We can make a reasonable assumption here.

Meaning its #1, not just in the top half (51%+) .

So saying its a tie means it no longer the most appropriate.

I hope this helped!

Honestly, I dont know if this is bad but based on the previous lessons, when I read "Such criticism, however, is never sincere" I could tell that was main conclusion and the following would most likely be premise or something else. I didn't want to confuse myself and overthink so I stopped and went with my gut. Might be a good tactic to answer MC questions confidently under time pressure.

@tarayangg @Koala I'll definitely recommend the foundations module. You learn to break down each sentence by removing unnecessary confusing modifiers. Super helpful!!

I wish there was a practice question after this, so we know an example of a question to use this technique for. #feedback

I'm finding it really helpful to skip the first sentence; it helps me catch all the referentials quicker when I have no context.

NOTE: The author states that although rare, sometimes, the referentials come before the referents. So the above method may not work, but it should mostly always work.

😖 Frustrated

Scrap Paper

I wish there was a way when taking the exam to have scrap paper to take notes on. Ideally psychical but I could still settle for virtual. I don't know if I'm the only one struggling otherwise. Whenever I PT with scrap paper/notes, I do significantly better. Test day is around the corner so I'm pretty nervous without accommodations!

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same struggles.
