I diagrammed this out and found the correct answer without POE but it took way too long.
the questions we've been examining in this section were more directed towards finding an alternative hypothesis by strengthening/weakening the connection between the phenomenon and the conclusion. This question to me was distinctly different because it directly strengthened a weak phenomena that seemed non-essential, which strengthened the entire argument.
I was confused until I made this distinction. From a pure grammatical standpoint, "Like a genetic profile" is a modifier and actually not a subject. However, when we analyze the logic of the passage it is treated as a subject since a parallel is made between "genetic profile" and "fMRI."
So "Like a genetic profile" is a Logical Subject but not a Grammatical Subject.
@EkaterinaUsachev Examining this mechanically, "Even though" sets up the context to be a counter argument to the author's conclusion. Then when you look at the relationship between the claims (the context and the conclusion), there's a weakening relationship.
I think an assumption is similar to the connective tissue between the muscles and a bone. The muscles would act as the premise(s) and a bone as the conclusion.
5/5 but took forever
