Seeking Cassidy's Loophole for Purchase

Good morning 7sagers,

I would like to purchase a copy of Ellen Cassidy's "The Loophole in LSAT Logical Reasoning" and it seems to be unavailable on all of the platforms I would look for it: Amazon, e-Bay, Barnes and Noble, HalfPrice Books, Thriftbooks...

If anyone has a copy they would be willing to part with, preferably not all marked up, I would be willing to buy it from you. I can Venmo you for the book and for shipping today.

Thanks--

@ Is it possible to add an experimental section to a digital practice test? Thank you.

It's not a perfect fix, but I've been doing a paper section as my Section 1 before beginning the digital PT (I did the same thing when the whole PT was on paper).

I get the digital tester all set to go, then I start my paper test using the 7Sage proctor. When that section is over, I click "start" on my digital test to jump right in and I take my break after the third total section (so official Section 2 in the digital tester)

I like doing the experimental first because then for the scored sections I'm at my most fatigued, so I feel like I get the most conservative score estimate. I know some people like the unpredictability of the random experimental section, though!

I think it's useful to listen to episodes 1-4 of the 7sage podcast. I found it on SoundCloud. I gleaned a lot of good advice on approach to studying and timelines there. They are free to listen to.

To those who take the test today, I wanted to ask if the tools for highlighting and underlining were easy to use for the RC. Were you provide scratch paper to make the lo res summaries for the reading comp? How easy was it the diagram to the arguments for LR?

So sorry guys. That is so discouraging. I scored one point lower than my test in March - 154 instead of 155. In between, I completed the 7sage curriculum and shored up my LG strategy (a section I went -17 on in March). I was also puzzled and disappointed by my score.

When are you both planning to retake?

@ ... here are my two cents! This is a long response. The last paragraph explains why I chose to pay for 7sage in the first place. If you read nothing else, please read that. :)

I began using 7sage in earnest at the beginning of June to prep for the July 15 test. Similarly, I had already completed one full curriculum book (Kaplan's LSAT Unlocked 18-19) prior to coming to 7sage (and sat for the March 30 test, scoring a 155, up from my 148 diagnostic). The material and content is similar, but I think 7sage goes into more depth with each section of the test, beginning with a comprehensive overview of the type of logic the LSAT uses which was incredibly helpful for me, having never studied logic before. Kaplan's approach is extremely formulaic, as much of formal logic is, but JY's content is helping me develop my intuition, which is increasingly important as difficulty on questions and content rises. I also like the way JY conceptualizes things and comes to correct answers.

I haven't tried other online sites or programs, but I also really appreciate the interactive nature of the 7sage program, including its active discussion forum and user comments in each lesson/practice question. I am 12 years out of undergrad, and it has been a while since I sat down to study new content for a testing environment. I did fine with the book on my own, but I am making more gains having a learning community to bounce ideas off of. The discussion on 7sage are very collaborative, not competitive or snarky. Equally, users are not afraid to challenge one another which in the end helps everyone better grasp what we are all trying to master.

The online tools available through this site seem exceptional to me. The site itself is easy to navigate and personalize. Bookmarking content and notetaking are built in. The question bank and PT analytics are some of the most impressive features, in my opinion. All of the PTs that are accessible to your account (based on the level you are paying at) are available to you to either a) print and take as a pencil and paper test including scantron sheet, or b) use the digital testing platform. You can do PTs either way. If you print them on paper and use a bubble sheet (or just write on the PT) you can input your answers into the online tool. It will run analytics on the PT for you. Or, if you use their digital platform for PTs, they will automatically output the analytics for your test. I only have one completed (partially, did 3 sections as I did not want to fatigue myself before Monday and only got through CC last week) in their system, but I believe they will begin to run analytics as time goes on, monitoring your progress, where you need to improve, etc. For each question on the PT you can view the question type (plus game type in LG, and passage type in RC), difficulty level, and the level of priority you should place focusing on/reviewing that type of content.

On to the Question Bank. I still struggle with Sufficient Assumption which is both embarrassing and annoying so what I am doing right now is using the Question Bank to practice only SA questions. The Question Bank has several filter options on it to easily sort through question types and difficulty levels, and you can output them into different viewing options depending on what you like. Another feature of the Question Bank is that each question is labeled with what PT, section number and question number it originally was. That way I can avoid using questions from PTs I have not taken yet if I want to, so that those PTs are "fresh" for future takes.

I used all of the free LG videos in preparation for my March test. They were helpful but I admit, when JY explained inferences on the games, it made sense after the fact but I was not able to reach the same inferences on my own. LG is still my weakest section, but I have made a lot of progress since using the Core Curriculum, the 7sage fool proof method for LG and interacting with other users and their comments on the site. I went -6 on LG on my PT last week.

Lastly, the (free) 7sage podcast that can be found on Soundcloud is what actually convinced me to pay for an account. I highly recommend listening to episodes 1-4 before you decide to cancel your account. In these episodes, JY interviews high performers about various topics including strategies they used to study, strategies they used on the actual test, how they broke into higher scoring bands (including breaking through scoring plateaus), mindset, wellbeing and self care through the process and a lot of other great information. JY and the other educators on 7sage adhere to the pedagogy of learning that I really believe in- the idea that students can teach as much as teachers (and in some cases more). I have learned so much from these podcasts, in large part because of the information other users who have had success at the LSAT shared. I feel that way about the other users in general.

OK! Please DM me if you would like to follow up although I am sure I have already given you more than you wanted. Cheers and good luck.

Progress

I want to give a shout out to @hhhakobian for being my study buddy. He has really elevated my critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. Even though he is a lot more advanced than I, he still takes time for our weekly session. I recently saw a big score jump on my last PT and I know I wouldn't be where I am without his guidance and advice. I have also made the switch to studying for shorter periods of time 5 or 6 days a week, versus longer periods of time just a few days a week. I think that has also helped.

@hhhakobian good luck on the Nov. LSAT! You're a rockstar and are going to kill the test, I know it.

Character and Fitness - amount of detail?

I have a pretty embarrassing situation from when I was younger.

Wondering how much detail I need to go into about the actual sequence of events.

I have an optional addendum document written out explaining this entire period of my life.

Thoughts?

Happy to give more details in private messages.

Thanks--

C & F - class action lawsuit

Hi everyone, I am answering the following question on a Character and Fitness disclosure:

"Have you ever been a party to any noncriminal legal proceeding, such as a civil lawsuit, an arbitration, an administrative legal proceeding, or a family court or domestic abuse proceeding? Being a party to a legal proceeding means that you are one of the participants who has a legal interest in the outcome, such as if you sued or were sued by someone, and it includes having any type of order of protection issued against you. It does not include merely being a witness in a legal proceeding."

...I was part of a class action lawsuit, not because I elected to be, but because a former employer was taken to court regarding wages, and the employer ended up settling. I received a $600 payout as a result. Do I need to answer yes to this?

I received my first acceptance today, and I just want to thank everyone at 7Sage who helped me on this journey! Not a T-14 or anything crazy like many of you, but a school in the top 30 nonetheless! The dean called to tell me they'd be offering me a full scholarship - I can't wait to get more offers from other schools, but IMA BE A LAWYER, Y'ALL! Thank you JY and everyone in the 7Sage community! Sorry for all the exclamation points, but I am so pumped!!!

Congratulations, that's huge! Top 30 is awesome. All of my top choices are in the top 100. :)

Thanks for sharing your success! Best of luck as the offers keep rolling in!

Warm Ups on Test Day?

Do you all bring a few LR questions / LG game / RC questions that you are confident on to the test center with you to warm up the brain before the test starts?

Other ideas for getting the juices flowing in the hour or so leading up to check in?

Thank you!!

Advice for the Short Term?

Hi 7sage community.

Question - do I do a full practice test under timed conditions with BR or just practice timed sections individually with BR before Monday? Or forego timed practice until after Monday and hit it hard for the fall date?

A brief background on where I am at:

I sat for March test after beginning studies with Kaplan books in January. Bombed the LG section (went at least -17) but got a 155, which was my PT average going into the test. I did 6 or 7 full (5 section and writing) practice tests leading up to March so I am familiar with the format, the "sprint", resetting my watch to the 12 between sections, bubbling in to not leave points on the table if time is low, and some of those little tricks.

Between March and June I had to catch up at work with projects I had left on the backburner from the beginning of the year (I work around 50 hours a week). I began the 7sage CC in earnest at the beginning of June. I haven't done it all, but I've been through every subsection for at least some of it. I spent the bulk of my time firming up my foundational and advanced logic skills (immensely helpful).

I'm sitting on Monday and haven't done a PT since March. Should I practice the whole thing or just practice each section, timed with BR? I am taking the rest of the week off and will let my brain rest Saturday and Sunday.

Also worried about what a low PT score will do to confidence heading into the test on Monday.......................... and even considering skipping timed practice for now.

I am fully committed to a LOT of PT and BR between Monday and the September or October test. Definitely doing one of those which will be my final attempt.

Lastly, I am accepted for fall 2020 at my top choice (local public school) so I am just trying to raise my score for financial aid purposes. This year's incoming 1L class had a median score of 157.

THANK YOU!

Hey @ -

I started with the LSAT Unlocked Kaplan Curriculum before my March test. I ran through the 7sage CC (quickly) before my July test. I actually scored one point lower in July, but I was using a lot more aggressive testing strategies than I was really ready to use under proctored conditions, since the stakes for the July test were so low. I was hoping to sit for a digital exam to get the experience under proctored conditions risk free (didn't happen).

Anyway, I am now using the PTs on 7sage, with all of the analytics, video explanations, and when I BR I am using the same strategy that @ alluded to, and I am making gains. If you take advantage of the analytics you will see very clearly where you are doing well and which parts of the test you need to work on. You can then utilize the question bank to drill those skills. Having video explanations for everything has been invaluable to me, since I cannot always understand the logic on my own.

Another thing that has helped me immensely is having a study partner. Shout out @

He and I will usually do an LR section together, whether we complete the section on our own and BR it together or actually go through it together and compare answers and defend our answer choice to one another (he is usually right ;) ) or lately we have gone through a section only to practice specific skills, like pre-phrasing what the right answer choice should be like. We live in different cities and connect via video call or phone call. I am sure there are lots of people on here that would be willing to be a study buddy with you. I highly recommend it.

One piece of advice I have heard a lot, and I am following it, is to firm up all your skills before you focus on timing. Once you have a strong foundation, you can work on finishing questions (and sections) within the target time you are shooting for. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to worry about timing when your base skills are still shaky.

Lastly, if you have not listened to the 7sage podcast, I highly recommend it, at least episodes 1-4. Great insight on mindset and preparation from other test takers who were able to make impressive improvement.

Hope this helps!

Since it's only for financial aid purposes, meaning for $. Cancel is probably a better option. You will most likely have the opportunity to tell them you were 1 point lower and you wanted to save the $200 when you're negotiating financial aid. They don't expect you to dip too low or would even consider the 154 vs a cancel for financial aid purposes. Even if they see a 154 they could be wondering "why didn't she cancel? She could've saved $200." Use the free retake to save $200 for one more test if you really have the time to keep studying. $200 is still $200. Hope my input helps :)

Thank you so much I really appreciate it!

I had the same score as my June take and still cancelled. It won’t look bad. From what I understand, a single cancel is pretty common.

Really!? Well I'm happy you performed as well as in June, and I feel you on any frustrations you experienced... I thought I would at least pick up a point or two just from having gone through the process and being less nervous. Oh well.

Cancelling does not look bad, especially with the July test. No point in keeping the July score if it was not your best one. You should get the Free test

I actually think cancelling makes sense, unless the $200 LSAT cost isn’t a hardship. Admissions officers are used to seeing a cancellation on an applicant’s record, and are expecting them with the uniqueness of the July exam. The higher score matters and the lower one won’t be considered. If you study hard and utilize the free retake you would improve your scholarship opportunities with a score increase.

Good point. Yes, I'm actually already admitted to KU for next fall's class (I applied this last cycle and was waitlisted but offered a spot in the class entering in 2020) so my LSAT retakes are all for financial aid purposes at this point. I'm not too worried about the free retake although it is a nice perk. More worried about the strength of my application.

Thanks for taking the time to respond!!

I probably wouldn't cancel since its only 1 point less. I'd be worried that schools will think I canceled a 140 or something

Thanks so much. I appreciate you responding. 😊 That's kind of what I was thinking but it sounds like others are on the other side!!

Hey y'all.

I scored a 155 in March and in July I scored a 154.

I plan to retake in November or January and apply this cycle at University of Kansas, University of Missouri - Kansas City and Washburn University.

I wasn't going to cancel my score, as I thought a one point deviation would raise less suspicion/doubt than a cancellation.

Thoughts?

I appreciate any insight you all have.
