idk if this will help but this is what i did to get the question right in 3min
step 1. read the stem: strengthen
step 2. find the conclusion (which is in first sentence): microglia (immune cells) causes alzheimers
step 3. find the premises that support the conclusion: something about microglia attacking the BA deposits which then impairs the brain's cognitive functions. skim the hard words, just need to get the idea of what makes microglia cause the impairment (mostly last sentence). reread to get better understanding.
step 4. go thru the choices and eliminate the ones that don't strengthen the relationship of how microglia causes alzheimer's.
A: sounds smart...keep for now.
B: what the heck does that have to do with anything, skip for now.
C: an increase OR decrease BA isn't what causes cognitive impair-the ATTACK of it does. what causes cognitive impair is that microglia attacks BA, which then destroys healthy cells and impairs blah abalblah. so decreasing protein BA doesn't do anything.
D: eliminate because protein BA doesn't do anything, it's just there to be attacked
E: immediately eliminate because other diseases are irrelevant to the argument
step 5. confirm answers (choose between A and B)
A: on the second read, you see that it gets the relationship mixed up. even when we take it to be true (which we have to, according to question stem), it doesn't strengthen the argument. the reason that BA is unable to be eliminated doesn't add anything to the argument because they're not the ones causing the cognitive impair. the reason that BA is there doesn't matter. we want to see why, ultimately, that the microglia (immune cells) are causing cognitive impair.
B: since i eliminated everything else, this better be right. in the stim, the acid slows the cognitive impair. how? this answer choice tells us: the acid kills the microglia (which the conclusion told us was the root of the problem). SO it strengthens the argument by confirming to us that it reduces the source (microglia) of problem (alzheimers), which tells us that the conclusion-premise relationship is upheld. if we take B to be true, then we can confirm the conclusion that microglia causes alzheimers because reduces microglia reduces alzheimers or something along those lines
boom
the result of having a lower rate of jogging injuries does not mean the experiment is flawed unless it is drastically below the overall rate, it's just a result doesn't mean it's skewed
@Deybomb17 goated comment i'm noting this
