Hi everyone,

A student initiative at Harvard Law School called the Financial Justice Coalition has helped us compile data on the Loan Repayment Assistance Programs of T14 schools: https://7sage.com/admissions/lesson/lrap-programs/

Hi David and others, I'm strongly considering going to GULC in the fall and plan on practicing public interest immigration law, but I'm nervous about relying on LRAP. How reliable are Loan Repayment Assistance Programs? How can school guarantee that the programs will exist well into the future? I know that we can't predict the future, but how likely is it that schools would cancel or drastically change their LRAPs in the near/distant future?

@LLLL1111 LRAPs differ from school to school. When considering LRAPs, what should you look for?
    • Does the LRAP require that you hold a certain kind of job (public sector job only or public and private sector jobs)?
    • Does the LRAP cover loans received from the federal government or does it cover private education loans as well?
    • Does the LRAP require you to work at a particular public/private sector job for a minimum number of years in order to receive repayment assistance?
    • Will the terms of the LRAP at the school change from year to year?
    • What happens if you get married and your spouse also has an income?

Each school with an LRAP has an LRAP specialist who will be able to answer these questions in detail. If you are serious about pursuing public interest law, you should get all the details and compare to see which program has the best specifications for your professional goals.
