It certainly adds to your application.
I'd say generally in both America and Canada it can range from who cares (because you're a dime a dozen) to a slightly heavier feather. I think that the maturity and personal/professional development aspect is regarded as more important than what you were actually doing most of the time.
What do you think about having law related work experience? (for schools in Canada as well)
