I would practice just doing the low-res in your mind. Typically it takes a bit too long to write things down. However, some people do have success with writing. As long as you practice writing only a few words or short phrases, that should be OK.
Most high scorers will make the low res purely mentally -- no notes or scratch paper necessary. Some will find jotting down a few words for each paragraph useful, though. This may be something you should experiment with.
