Self-study
Hi everyone,
I've been wanting to go to law school for a long time now, I've taken the LSAT a total of 3 times, getting a 143, 144, and 146. I want to score at least in the 150s to have a fair shot at admissions. I work full time, so I study after work. I'm feeling kind of discouraged, like I won't hit my target score. I've scored in the 150s for some PTs, but not the actual exam. Anyone else ever been through this? How did you overcome it? I could really use the encouragement. Sometimes I feel like giving up, and that this exam will be the thing keeping me from going to law school.

I have also taken the LSAT 3 times. The first time, I scored a 148. The second time, a 149. After 2 months, I took it again and scored a 157 (higher than any practice test that I had taken at that point). You can do it!
same boat. questioning myself whether I am capable to go through the law school curriculum nor passing the bar exam with low lsat score. Any thought or true advise? Thank you everyone.
@lilywong I have been told that LSAT scores dont reflect your abilities in law school. I've been told by my top choice (CUNY), that students that have scored in the low 150s have gone on to do really great in school, and pass the bar. Keep going!
If your head doesn't hurt when you are reviewing then you are not learning
@LawStudent414244 HELLO!! my head is BANGIN LMFAO
@LawStudent414244 I have been crashing out on and off hahahaha
@LawStudent414244 That is so real LMAO
Best advice I can give is, you better not give up!! I took it twice and got a 126 and a 136 this past January. I'm not giving up so you better not! you can do this! I'll come back to this post after I retake it in June.
@TamiaMobley heck yeah!!! please update with your June scores, you got this <3
@crashoutbandicoot I also recommend doing what I did, I called the law school i'm interested in and scheduled a tour, it was a private tour and I got to speak with tons of professors and other students. I built relationships with them and spoke to some staff in admissions that gave me pointers and reassurance, it's clear they want me I just have to get my scores up to the high 140s because my GPA was a 3.79. Doing that, helped me stay encouraged and disciplined! OH! I hired a tutor named Bob Verini on Wyzant and he's really good. Pricey but good! look him up on Wyzant and/or find someone that fits your price range and KNOCK THIS TEST OUT THE PARK! WE GOT THIS. I'll come back and update you with an honest score.
Never give up. Go out on your shield knowing you left everything out on the battlefield.
Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. The sun will still rise tomorrow and you will have air in your lungs. That might not mean much but that's how I look at it and I've square danced in towns people have never heard of.
@rexjp amen, thank you for this perspective :) <3
This is me too right now I’m down right depressed about it it has made everything so slow for me I’m reluctant to do anything anymore but know it im it alone is making me more encouraged and it should encourage you too! We got this!
@MiMi You are not alone!!!! we're in this together!
I'm in the same boat. Please don't give up! I've decided to apply again during the next application cycle and give myself more time to get it down. You will get into the law school you want, keep pushing!
@AmarahCreque from your mouth to God's ears, we got this!!!
Is that the order you got those scores?
@MB304 Yes actually, in that order
Have you taken an LSAT course? It might be worth the couple thousand of investment.
@jane1998 I have, I have gotten into CUNY Pipeline and did their part one, but since my last two lsats didnt break 150, I did not get into the second part.
Hi, I wanted to say don’t be discouraged taking the test multiple times. I have taken the test a total of three times. My first score was a 145 I was working full time and doing school full time and I wasn’t focused. The second time I was sick and scored a 146. My third score was a 151 and I have been admitted to multiple law schools. During PTs, I would score in the mid 150s what helped me the last time was learning what kind of learning style helped me most ( I graduated early from college and had two months to lock in). But I learned the best time for me to study was the morning, and 1 hour wasn’t enough for me I would study for minimum two hours with breaks of course, and I found study partners that would force me to be accountable. For LR, I would drill the questions I would get wrong on 7 sage from PTs. 20 Questions a day unlimited time and then I would try to add time and see if I actually knew the information or was time was stressing me out ( I have testing anxiety so a lot of the time that was it) or I just didn’t know the material. For RC, my strategy a passage a day keeps you out of the 140s. All of the answers are in the passage you just have to get through the tricks they throw at you so repetition is key. Also if you get a question wrong try to review it and see if you can get to the right answer but if your confused watch JY video explanation eventually he will be plugged in your head and you will think like him. I hope this helps you can do this!
@Reneloveslsat <3 THANK YOU!!! so encouraging! Congratulations on your admissions!!
Entirely the same boat I've taken the official test twice and never in the 150s. Not sure what is wrong with me lol. Took a pt today and still can't reach a solid 150s. Ive tried diff studying platforms even a course from 7sage and no progress despite feeling like i have made some. Anyone planning on taking June? Not sure if I should cancel it now ugh 😭
@stephlovesbirds nothing is wrong with you! You can do it. 🙏 If you’re not scoring in the 150s don’t take the actual test in June. Are you lacking something in foundations? I’m on the same boat, but I noticed what’s helped me is knowing the logical fallacies, understanding the conditionals.. dissect the stimulus and predict answer before looking at answer choices.
@stephlovesbirds nothings wrong with you! keep going!!! you're not alone
@MYalda yeah I've decided to cancel it and take later. 😣I feel like the conditionals are what I need to get a good grasp of also diagramming is so hard for some reason ! Glad things are starting to work out I hope you continue improving!! <3
@crashoutbandicoot we got this !! we will make it work 😭🙏
@stephlovesbirds we really GOT THIS! This exam is frustrating but it’s not the end point. I’m still working on improving, I’m trying my best not to give up. If you want we can have zoom calls to help each other improve certain parts. Send me a message if you’re interested! 🤗
@MYalda also @crashoutbandicoot you’re more than welcomed to join as well.
Just wanted to say that it really sucks to have a limit on the LSAT, I can imagine the pressure just increases as you reach the 4th or 5th attempt. I wish you and everyone in the same boat lots of luck on your upcoming exam. 💙
That said, I've found myself taking more time to review questions I get wrong. Don't feel afraid to take your time to review wrong answers, your next one with the right amount of review can be correct! :) Your time is never wasted with review.
"I get questions wrong today, so tomorrow I'll get the right" is what I'm telling myself as I am watching a JY video of a method question I just got wrong 😅
I want to share this Discord group for anyone interested in joining sessions outside their own group chats.
https://discord.gg/7EaQCD7GtZ
There's a daily LR session everyone is welcomed to join everyday at 5PM PST (8PM EST). I'm taking break from hosting this weekend but will be back next week. I'm not a tutor and am still learning myself, but group sessions help a ton for real and highly recommend existing study groups to meet consistently the very least!
Honestly, I follow this. I'm not sure what the best approach would be to do good at this test
I would so be down to create a group chat, we can all hold each other accountable. I get so exhausted after work and I sometimes just need a push.
@Blossom Lets do it!
