Why?
Because short form content has been shown in many studies to decrease sustained attention and causes symptoms that mimic attention deficit. How do you expect to get through a whole RC section if your brain is being hijacked to expect instant dopamine releases every 30 seconds?
So… delete all forms of short form content from your phone. Like right now. Seriously. If it really needs to stay on your phone (like you use instagram for business purposes or something), maybe use an app like ScreenZen or BePresent to lock yourself out of it.
Ok, I’ve deleted the social media apps on my phone. Now what?
Now you need to fix your attention.
Meditate: A study by UCSB found that meditation, specifically focused attention meditation, can actually increase standardized test scores.
Read long books: these don’t have to be “serious” books at first, especially if you aren’t an active reader. If you haven’t read anything in a while, maybe try a more “light” series like Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Work out: being active and getting your heart rate up a few times a week will release neurotransmitters that help regulate focus. I prefer yoga because it kind of double dips into the meditation benefits, but literally any form of regular activity is better than no activity.
If you’ve been struggling with RC passages, getting through full sections of LR, etc, try these interventions for a few weeks (while also studying) and let me know how it goes!
Also, this is part of how I just pted a 179 after 2 months of studying.

Great reminder. Happy to give book recommendations if anyone wants them!
@ScarlettKr
Hello !!
I would love a few recommendations! Thank you!
@JoslinM. What kinds of books are you into?
I agree! I have not used any social media in years. Now that I am studyimg for the LSAT I use discord for study groups, and of course 7sage. But that's the extemt of it.
I also do much meditation, breathwork, and physical exercise. These have also been in my routime for years. I honestly would never have gotten to where I am now without these practices.
It is disturbing to see some of these comments defendimg social media. The government is so adept at brainwashing. Smh
What an amazing score!! That is my dream score!! Thanks for the inspiration!! GET IT GUUUURRRLLLL!!!
thank you for this. i deleted my socials last night.
thanks for this. I have been studied for a while and have seen growth but I do think the reason why I am not where I want to be is because I am on social media all the time 🥲🥲
Agree! I downloaded the LSAT Games app to scratch the itch of “needing” to do something on my phone. It’s helped improve my score as well!
@lcsjeppe thank you for this comment. i immediately downloaded.
2 weeks without social media and my attention and focus has improved substantially! Completely agree
I needed this. Thank you!
Makes sad Reddit-withdrawal noises.
@LauraBrands Haha you will be okay
just deleted it wishing myself the best thanks for the motivation
ColdTurkey is a great extension to use to block distractions on your computer. It creates a hard lock that you cannot bypass during selected hours. It helps me out a lot!
I also stopped gooning that's like 10x score booster
@JerryTianleChen correlation does NOT equal causation
@JerryTianleChen
@JerryTianleChen Bro might be on to something here...
.... will this help me in time for august
@studying4lsat123 probably yes
Solid advice - just deleted my social media
@AlexandraFriestman Dungeon Crawler Carl reference in this economy? Respect.
@Windrem2.0 I didn’t expect that either. I just started book 8.
I recently deleted instagram (my main source of distraction) and found it not only beneficial for increasing focus, but providing greater overall mental clarity.
Despite this, I still felt the need to scroll. I began scrolling through Linkedin and Pinterest as if they were IG, which led me to delete both of them today. I just can't believe how normal I let this "addiction" become, but hopefully I'll break the habit not only for studying purposes, but for good!
It really is the worst thing for the stamina we are trying to build for the test. I really feel the social media effects on the brain as the test goes on. Despite the fixed time I become impatient and rush through things because of that conditioning for a dopamine hit.
It’s helped me to disconnect from constant engagement too. I used to never want to waste a waking moment, trying to multi task and cram in an audiobook along with it.
Now if I am going to watch a movie or play a game I try to give it my full attention now. The second screen syndrome was another bad effect of over consumption which does not help.
I really believe in this!! I deleted ALL social media and my score has radically increased. Read a lot, be bored, and lock in on this 100%. This is great advice.
@LorenzaMarchi Nice! When you say radically increased, what numbers are we talking here lol?
@ThePainter up 9 points in a month and a half!
@LorenzaMarchi congrats!
