    EM expressed. "if you don't, you don't count."

    I think EM's meaning is all writers should focus on writing a social critism, and if one doesn't, he/she is not a writer. So I chose B, common goal.

    I didn't choose C because I think "kind" is similar with "type", which isn't cared by EM.

    I understand that we should come back to main point, but why author still needs to introduce forms at last, shouldn't he/she focus on they're important, and then what's important?

    still confused, anyone can help?

    @Susie I think you are focusing too much on what EM's quote "means". The question is asking why the author included the quote, not what the quote is saying (purpose > implied meaning). The entire last paragraph and the sentences leading up to the quote are describing "the writing he cares about" (he being EM). The author then includes that quote at the end to explain the writing EM cares about even more, or as answer choice C states: "further elaborate the kind of writing Mphahlele values."

    @puddingeveryday thank you very much! I feel much clearer after a few days, especially with your explanations. sometimes I would be stuck when I overthink
