@KevinLin so.... "But" is not a conclusion indicator = Conclusion , It's an indicator of a shift in direction in the stimulus. 
That often aligns with the beginning of the author's argument. It may be followed by a conclusion. 
But don't view "but" as a conclusion indicator in the way "thus" is.
