Congratulations! Do you have any advice on time management? I get all the questions correct untimed but the time limit gives me anxiety:(

I did read through the lawgic that you have diagram and I think it would be faster if you could combine some of them! Eventually, diagraming the conditionals would come to you naturally and would not have too much trouble doing them.

Following is how I mapped:

Price CB ↑ CS ↑Sell non-coffee product OR Sale Overall profitability

Avoid Overall profitability↓ → /CS

Going through the answer choices, C would be the only one that will work out!

I think one way you can improve is keeping in mind all the words that indicate sufficient and necessary conditions, and identify exactly where the arrows should point toward. Also, if there are things you can combine, try combining them (For example, if a premise says A→B, B→C, then directly diagraming them as A→B→C)

I used to frequently refer back to my notes when doing diagramming but now it comes naturally to me.

Could we have more videos like this for other question types as well? I was just struggling with weakening and strengthening and this video helped a lot! Thank you:)

Got this wrong both the first and second time so really took some time to dissect what the question wanted us to weaken

Stimulus presents 3 views in the Premise:

Dominant view - P formed from fossilized remains of plants and animals deep in Earth's crust

Scientist's view - P formed from deep carbon deposits dating from formation of the earth

Conclusion: But Scientist's view is refuted by the presence of biomarkers (molecules indicating past or present existence of living organism)

We have to weaken the argument which is "scientist's view is refuted" which I interpreted as so scientist's theory is actually supported rather than refuted by the presence of biomarkers:

So scientist's view is that P formed from deep carbon deposits dating from the formation of Earth and biomarkers are molecules that indicate the past/present existence of a living organism. So connecting the two, leads to the question: some biological molecule in deep carbon deposits exist to form P?

If my thought process is correct, then I can see why D is the correct answer since bacteria is a living thing and it is deep inside the Earth's crust

Conditional graphing:

ppl (indifferent to environ.) -> pollution is problem -> Nature's balance is harmed

THEREFORE: ppl (indifferent to environ.) -> Nature's balance is harmed

This is a typical argument style used frequently in LSAT:

A -> B -> C

THEREFORE A -> C

Unfortunately, the fastest way to go through the answer choices in these kinds of parallel questions is to understand and diagram the conditionals properly and then go into the answer choices:

A) Dessert with choco -> High Calories -> Fattening

THEREFORE Dessert with choco -> Fattening

Yes! This is the same parallel reasoning happening as the stimulus. In the actual test we want to stop at A and prevent ourselves from further proceeding but since we are in the process of learning, let's go through the rest of the answer choices

B) Dessert with choco -> High calories

Fattening dessert -> High calories?

From the first sentence itself we can see that it is wrong. It is also going like: A -> B and C -> B

C) Dessert (high calories) -> choco

Dessert (high calories) -> Fattening?

Again, we can eliminate this right away since it is A -> B and A -> C

D) Dessert with choco -> high calories -> fattening

THEREFORE Fattening desert -> Choco...?

Starts off pretty well: A -> B -> C but the conclusion proves something totally nonsensical.

E) Dessert with choco -> High calories <-some-> fattening

THEREFORE Deserts with choco <-some-> Fattening

In LSAT, they view many = some in most of the cases hence this is a bi-conditional

But the stimulus does not have bi-conditional so this is wrong.

Stimulus:

P: Earliest evidence of controlled fire is JUST 400,000 yrs old (seems to insinuate that the evidence of fire is too recent)

C: Doubt on mastery of fire being necessary for human migration despite cold winter climate (so states that perhaps, mastery of fire was not necessary for human migration)

WHY?

Since the evidence is too recent, it doesn't have to be that mastery of fire was necessary? So ppl could have still lived without fire? -> leads to answer choice E.

Also when you do POE, all answer choices are just ridiculous

TOTALLY MISSED THE SCOPE CHANGE!!

So it goes from saying that they were trying to relieve traffic congestion for "several of the city’s suburbs to the downtown area" BUT "ppl in downtown" are now suffering with increased avg. commute time.

It seems like the opening of new highway has done something to that increases avg. commute time for ppl in downtown and E shows why that has happened

Will it be okay to eliminate B and C because they talk about ppl opposing it and the stimulus doesn't say anything about ppl opposing? I considered ppl adversely affected and opposing as two different things so eliminated B and C...

Breaking down the stimulus:

It has been noted that attending a live musical performance is a richer experience than is listening to recorded music -> phenomenon presented

Some say that this is merely because we do not see the performers when we listen to recorded music -> some other ppls opinion about this

However, there must be some other reason -> Conclusion (says that "some says" is not enough)

why is it not enough? because there is the premise that there is relatively little difference between listening to someone read a story over the radio and listening to someone in the same room read a story.

Breaking down answer choice E:

It (Phenomenon) is

what the position that the columnist tries to undermine (some other ppls opnion)

is purported to explain.

Thank you for the post! As I was reading it, I found so many similarities. This April was also my first LSAT and I was very depressed about my score (150). It's been 6 months studying for this test and although I have always been a straight A student for my Bachelors and Masters (as you did), standardized testing was always my weakness. But I realized that if I am not going to give up, I should overcome these emotions and start studying again! I hope everything works out for both of us!

Read the answer choices too fast and was fixated on the conclusion of accepting the verdict of tradition:

Stimulus:

Accept the tradition that H is the author

Some tradition says H is the author and same equal force of evidence shows that H is not.

-- -- --

At first, trying to find the answer choices that goes along the line "if both are equally powerful and no evidence that overwhelms the other, then yield to the tradition. But, going through the AC, none of them were similar to my prediction:

A) Stimulus concluded to follow the tradition so it is wrong to suspend the judgement

C) One should believe what?

D) Never mentions anything nontraditional (if you think that connects to other evidences that are not traditional, it would be overthinking)

E) If two or more hypotheses conflict with it? There aren't two or more hypotheses given

So after finding areas that I don't like in each answer choice, I re-read B.

B points directly to the other evidence that is given in the stimulus, that if it is not overwhelming, we should not choose it.

It was hard for me to recognize the flaw for this question so went through process of elimination

C: companies won't be wasting their money if purchase equipment

P: survey of businesses that have purchased such equipment, respondents said equipment was well worth its cost

-- -- --

A) Wrongly states the premise - premise is about survey respondents saying that its worth the cost

B) Not confusing necessary and sufficient

C) Nope. Not about inadequate argument

E) Not confuses value vs. cost

Hence, left with D for the answer

This took a long time for me to understand but here is how I got it:

P: Believe no effect on society's future -> helpless to change society

(contrapositive = not feel helpless -> effect on society's future)

Con: Improve society -> not belief future determined by historical factors (same as believing no effect on society's future)

New idea in conclusion = Improve society

How to connect the two?

Taking the contrapositive of the premise and connecting it with the conclusion:

P: Not feel helpless -> effect on society's future

Con: improve society -> Not believe ppl has no effect on society's future

So connection between not feel helpless and improve society

-- -- --

Ans. D) Improve society -> not accept any belief that makes feel helpless

Since there are lots of international students who are using 7 Sage, I think it would be great to answer some questions related to international applicants. I have been trying to gather information about international applicants but not much information is provided:

  1. Are international applicants viewed the same as U.S. applicants? Some schools seems to prefer U.S. citizens more... Or is this just a myth?

  2. What could be some important tips pertaining only to international students?

  3. As an international applicants, are there more obstacles that we encounter? If so, how can we overcome them?

  4. (Not related to international applicants) Are job experience important for law school applications? I heard that gap year does not look good on law school application and I have bee applying for jobs but did not get any responses back.

Thank you!

😖 Frustrated

154 untimed but 168 BR... What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I recently took an untimed practice test to focus purely on accuracy and scored a 154, which was frustrating. I had assumed timing was my main issue, but this result suggests that there are other problems.

However, during Blind Review, I scored a 168. This made me realize that I tend to overthink questions and often get stuck between two answer choices, which leads me to pick the wrong one under normal conditions.

When I revisit the questions I missed during Blind Review, I’m usually able to solve them correctly, which makes the gap even more confusing.

I’d really appreciate insight on a few things:

  • What might be causing this gap between my untimed score and Blind Review score?

  • How can I avoid getting stuck between two answer choices?

  • What strategies can help me become more decisive and close this performance gap?

Thanks in advance!

1)

Most fiction books published -> literary agents OR directly from fiction writers (requested)

2)

Nonfiction books serious attention (published) -> Renowned figure OR requested manuscript

-- -- --

Did process of elimination for this one. Made sure that I could infer the answer from the diagram

A) we don't know if unrequested manuscripts given serious attention or not

B) There could be renowned writers for the book of fiction

C) received full attention would be work of non-fiction or renowned figure NOT fiction books

D) less likely to give careful consideration? What? we don't know anything about consideration

E) Hard to understand this answer choice but seems like it is related to the second diagram... not requested, then renowned figure?

Con: Falsely criticized for not being an environmentally responsible corporation

P: Current production methods pollute significantly less than our old methods did

P: there currently are no methods that do not produce any pollution.

-- -- --

Flaw I have identified: Based on what are they claiming that there are no other methods that don't produce any pollution? They are saying this only based on comparison between their new and old method.

A) Cannot be developed? Doesn't talk about this

B) Different causes have similar effects? Irrelevant

C) Does not generalize and what is class of criticisms?

D) It does not have to succeeded and they are not mentioning this

E) Correct. They are not considering the fact that there could be other methods which can produce less pollution than it does now.

Grain price double - avg. price of loaf of bread rise BUT grain-fed beef will come close to doubling

-- -- --

RRE question

beef and bread both use grain but why does beef price double and bread just rise between 10-15%?

While beef eat only grain, when making bread, there are other ingredients used so grain won't be used as much as beef. Hence answer choice C

Con: Most ppl who commit embezzlement or bribery will eventually be caught

P: ppl repeatedly commit crimes LIKE embezzlement or bribery w/o being caught become confident - each success, less likely to get caught.

P: More crimes a person commits, greater chance of being caught

-- -- --

Based on the two premise, we need an assumption to make the conclusion stand.

How will they be eventually be caught? Ppl who repeatedly do crimes become confident and less likely to be caught. Then this might be true for embezzlement and bribery as well (since premise 1 just gives embezzlement or bribery as an example)

So the answer will be A.
