I'm applying next year but also considering requesting my letters this school year, because I'll have easier access to my professors and I want to give them plenty of time. I think it's okay to have them a cycle early. You're probably aware of this already, but remember that they have to upload the LORs to LSAC so if you don't already have an account you'll have to get one before you request the letters.

Generally you should ask permission from the professor to use the letter after a year but they almost always will say yes.

Definitely. If you are still in contact with them, they can always update... but I don't see a problem with that at all.
