Study group strategies

Thank you JYThank you JY Alum Member

asking anyone that has been a part of a study group for study group advice

couple of questions that immediately come to mind:

  1. optimal range of study group members?
  2. where should the members be in the study progress

basically, if you've been a part of a successful study group: what did you guys do?
and, if you've been a part of an unsuccessful study group: why was in unsuccessful, what would you have done differently?

tagging @"Scott Milam" because he reached out regarding study groups

thank you!

Yooo, I was literally asking him/others the same thing. Also if anyone had any ideas of agenda or tasks or goals during sessions. Great post!

Sorry! Didn't see the "tag" for some reason...

The key to a successful study group is activity. Groups that actually meet regularly and do things tend to stick around and thus provide benefit to their members. I would encourage you to find 1-2 times each week your groups can get together on Zoom and then plan specific things to do with that time. Some ideas include:

    1) Doing the same PT and reviewing it together,
    2) Discussing strategies for a section of the test,
    3) Helping each other come up with study plans, or
    4) Inviting an expert to do a Q&A or talk about an issue.

Where members are in the study process, or what their current score is, likely matters less than having members who are aiming for the same (or similar) test dates, and having enough people that you can hold regular meetings with enough attendees to be worth it.

    Hope that helps!
