@westcoastbestcoast thank you! This is really helpful. I only submitted on January 10, so it wasn't too long ago, but I'll at least start putting together a Why X letter/essay (I chose a different optionalessay to submit with my application).

I had a custom version of an LOR written for Stanford since their application gives you a place for one. (the prof was a StanfordLaw alum.) But otherwise, I don't think it's necessary.

The ideal situation is one and done, but if you have taken it 4 times with a max score of 155 and you dream of StanfordLaw, you are obviously going to want to take it again (after identifying and fixing the issues that made you underperform).
