Technical issues :(

Hi all, I just finished the August exam and I hope everyone did well! Unfortunately, I was interrupted repeatedly throughout my first RC section by a pop-up that said "reconnecting". It obscured the exam, but the time was still running. Because of this, I lost probably 10-15 minutes of exam time and had no opportunity to answer the last 7 RC questions because the pop-up was appearing every few seconds at that point. Not to mention, the entire experience was disruptive and threw me out of my flow state.

I eventually got my proctor's attention, but it was too late for the RC section. During the following section (LR), we had to pause everything at question 14 and test my WiFi speed. Not as bad as the RC, but the interruption still made it more difficult to focus.

I have a feeling that I'm not alone in this. I even tested everything multiple times on ProctorU before starting the test. Does anyone know what we can do?

I had a total deer in the headlights moment with this question. I just didn’t even know what to think after reading the stimulus aside from why noncompliance would have been ok at the local but not national level and the solution JY has seems to have come out of nowhere. I was under the impression that national law must have been the more restrictive set of rules because noncompliance with it was unacceptable while it might have been ok with local but it’s the opposite. Could someone break this down for me in the simplest way possible, premise by premise?

It was honestly baffling to see how setting up the game differently (double layered sequencing versus just 1-10 in a line) changes how the rest of the game goes. I'm just going through different types of games ahead of my LSAT on Tuesday and was wondering if y'all can suggest any specific games with a difficult twist to prepare for the unexpected?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I am taking the August LSAT this weekend. I have been trying to take a PT every other day for the last two weeks and sadly my scores seem to be falling. I was consistently scoring 169-172 and my last two scores have been 166 and 165. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on this or having a similar experience?

2 part RC passages

I seem to remember JY saying in one of his videos that passages with 2 parts in RC (usually labeled part A and B ) are no longer common on the LSAT. Am I remembering this correctly?

Will I be penalized if text messages popped up on my screen while taking the official lsat writing portion? None of the messages contained anything about the exam but a good amount of group texts popped up in the right hand corner while I was working. I assumed that the secure browser would silence any notifications from my computer like honorlock and other proctoring sites do but apparently I was wrong. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone tried to solve the game using multiple game boards? It seemed do-able to try splitting game boards, but I keep going down a rabbit hole with too many options and especially, for the last question, seems like several answer choices are possible if I look at my boards.

Any suggestions welcome!!

Thank you,

Megha

I was wondering what the main differences between most strongly supported questions and Weakening questions such as how to approach them?

Normal:

Strongly Supported:

  • The Stimulus does not have an argument, but rather premises
  • You have to find the conclusion of the argument in the answer choices
  • Weakening:

  • The Stimulus has an Argument (Premises/Conclusion)
  • You have to find the answer that weakens the support between the premises and conclusion in the answer choices
  • Causation and Phenomenon-Hypothesis:

    Strongly Supported:

  • The Stimulus has a phenomenon and hypothesis
  • You have to find the answer that blocks out alternative hypothesis
  • Weakening:

  • The Stimulus has a phenomenon and hypothesis
  • You have to find the answer that is competing or corroborating with the hypothesis
  • Please let me know if this is wrong and how I can improve my understanding.

    Thanks.

    Hi everybody!

    Taking the June LSAT. I have a rudimentary understanding of how FLEX works but am unsure of really happens on test day.

    What is the proctor/ situation like? Does your screen lag when taking the exam? Any prep tricks/ tips you guys have before my big day? Any ways to calm your nerves? What time did you start/ finish?

    Really would love any/all advice. Thanks to everyone in advance!

    Hey guys! What is everyone's plan for test day and the week leading up to the test? Will you warm up before the real deal or save your mental energy for the exam? Also, how intense have you studied during the week before the test? TIA!

    Hey 7Sagers!

    Been a bit MIA on the forums the last month or so but came back to see a lot of test anxiety posts and questions being asked on the forum. I took the June LSAT (awaiting results thanks to writing complications) so I'd be happy to answer any questions regarding test day or really anything LSAT related! I might not have all the answers but I did a pretty heavy amount of researching test day requirements and ProctorU requirements leading up to my exam so hopefully I can answer most of your questions. If anything, it'll be a space for all you to see you're not the only one anxious and stressed about test day :)

    Hope to you see there!

    What to bring: All your doubts, anxiety, and nerves so you can leave it on the call

    Explanation Please

    I would appreciate a thorough explanation on this one. I understand how B doesn't agree with the Politician but I don't see how it agrees with the biologist or whatever - Appreciate anything that can make it more clear! I ended up with D but B was the answer.

    August test day question: breaks?

    Hi all,

    I have already taken an LSAT Flex test from last October and there was 1 minute breaks in between sections. Does anyone know if there will be 1 minute in between sections on the August test? I know between the 2nd and 3rd section there is a 10 minute break, but I can not find out about the 1 minute. It sounds minuscule but the minute helps me reset my brain for the next section. Thanks you!

    I took the June 2021 test and the reading and logical reasoning didn't seem too bad, but the logic games seemed very difficult to me. I'm taking August test next week so overall how do you guys predict the games section on the August 2021 will be in comparison? What about the entire test in general? Also the curve for the June test lowered a lot of people's scores, do you guys think the curve will be more in our favor for August?

    Proctor U

    Hi,

    I am writing my LSAT on Tuesday, but I am a bit confused about the process. Am i supposed to download the proctor myself before hand, like right now, or are they going to send it to me.

    How am I going to access my test on the day?

    Would someone please not mind explaining it to me??

    Thank you

    In this example:

    True Premise: A --> B

    True Premise: B --> C

    Inference: A--> B --> C

    Is the inference a valid conclusion? Or is it just like a mundane re statement or the premises? Is it even an inference?

    A --> C would of course be a valid and true inference or conclusion (depending on argument setup), right?

    0

    Question 1:

    For premise: A --> B

    Are all of the following valid inferences?

    A -m-> B

    A -s- B

    -B --> -A

    -B -m-> -A

    -B -s- -A

    Question 2:

    For premise: A --> B --> C

    Is the following necessarily false?

    A --> -C

    Question 3:

    From premise A --> B --> C is there any inference we can make that is necessarily false?

    Does anyone here have their August LSAT exam scheduled for the early morning of 8/14?

    I have already scheduled my exam for 8 am on 8/15, however, due to some family emergency, I will be flying an international flight on the night of 8/14, and be occupied thereafter. Therefore, the morning of 8/14 will be the only day for me to take the August exam.

    However, all the 8/14 test sessions are now full on Proctor U. I wonder if anyone here is scheduled for 8/14 and is so kind to be willing to trade time session with me? I am so sorry to trouble you guys here, but I really cannot think of another way to solve this time conflict.

    Does anyone know if there's a filter to look for sets vs. supersets type questions? Or is there a place in the core curriculum that deals with these issues? I'm not talking about just the valid vs. invalid inferences from existential relationships, but more like the more recent PT questions that have stimuli like "most mammal species of ... are not, but most individual mammals are ..."

    Does anyone have any advice on how to systematically (with a process) attack these problems? I usually do them based on my intuition, but I find that can just be very nerve-wracking. Sometimes, I draw circles/Venn diagrams, too, but I never quite know what to do with them/it's hard for me to infer anything from them.

    PT2.S2.Q23 - NA Question

    Hi guys,

    I've been using the negation test as I go through the answer choices. I've been able to pinpoint why E is correct and why most of the other answer choices are wrong, except for answer choice C. I don't understand what I'm missing, but if someone could explain why negating answer choice C does not wreck the argument, that would be great.

    Conclusion - Cause of increased deaths is bronchial inhalers by asthma sufferers to relieve their symptoms.

    Premises - Two explanations for increasing death rate of people with asthma: the reporting is more accurate now and there is an increase in urban pollution.

    Gap - Bronchial inhalers is not mentioned in the two premises as an explanation for increased death rate.

    Answer choice C - "Bronchial inhalers are unsafe, even when used according to the recommended instructions." Why is the incorrect? If the inhalers are not unsafe, then wouldn't this wreck the argument that the inhalers cause the increased death rate? Isn't it also a must be true that the inhalers have to be unsafe for the death rate of the asthma population to significantly increase?

    How do people fool-proof LR?

    It seems a lot harder to not go to the AC that you remember just because you have memorized it and not because you know the inferences when you repeat the question so how do you repeat without doing that (or should you)? Additionally, I read somewhere about doing parallel arguments during blind review. Can someone give me an example of that? I am finding it hard to picture what exactly that looks like

    Need help with LR section

    Hi,

    I have been taking practice tests since end of June till now, and I keep on getting -11 to -15 on LR sections. My LSAT is in October and I am quite nervous about whether I will be able to improve on the LR sections in the next 2 months, especially since I am going into my fourth year of my undergrad in the fall.

    Does anyone have any general tips for me on how to improve on LR sections??

    Thank you! #help

    I take the exam on Sunday and im in need of some last minute tips. I dont plan on taking another PT but I will be drilling and taking individual sections over the next 3 days.

    How do I tackle 4-5 level LR questions? On the PT I just took I got every question right except for the 6 questions that were 4-5 level difficulty. I thought I got them all right but I fell for every trap answer ):

    Any suggestions on increasing RC score a couple points? Even if it is new strategies / how to eliminate wrong answer choices? Im awful at this section and have not been able to increase my score consistently. The best I've gone was -6 but just now I got -11.
