Advice on timing and learning from BR...?

The difference between my actual timed score and my blind review score is a very big gap. Even from 157 to 165-8 (respectively). Timing is my main weakness. My goal score is a 170+. If I plan to take the September LSAT, which gives me roughly three months from now, what can I do to better my endurance, speed, and accuracy? How many simulated prep tests a week? I will be studying full time this summer and taking a couple online classes at my university, but not working –– so I anticipate having a lot of time to study if I'm not working for my online classes.

How many simulated practice tests had you all done when you began breaking into the 170s? etc.

In between practice tests, I usually drill games, the 10 copies I have of each one from PT 1-35. I still have plenty more copies! Anyways, I need as much advice as possible so please enlighten me, guys!! xx

Non-LSAT related: Talk about yourself!!!

Hello everyone! This thread doesn't really have anything to do with the test haha. I just wanted to share that a lot of the time when I come on websites like 7sage & TLS, I get a bit anxious especially if I'm not having a very good studying day myself or if I'm just not in a confident mood. One of my friends taking the MCAT began crying after reading a forum on Student Doctor Network and having a stressed day. Haha so I'm guessing certain reactions to sites like these is somewhat common.

SO, I wanted to start a thread learning more about ya'll besides law school stuff since I've been on 7sage for over a year now and don't know much about anyone besides their ballpark PT score and personal statement glimpses...

Anyways, I'm 21 years old. I just graduated in the class of 2017 and I live in nyc. When I'm not studying, I like to read. I'm really into feminism and critical theory regarding gender studies and sociology. I also enjoy reading the New Yorker. I spend three days a week at the gym and I'm obsessed with skincare. Haha like essential oils and moisturizing creams. Sephora is like a sanctuary to me. I'm also a huge film junkie! I minored in film studies. I mostly love foreign films and avantgarde/experimental movies! English is my native language but I can also speak Mandarin-Chinese and have been studying/learning French alongside my LSAT studying.

Finally, if anyone would wanna respond introducing themselves (though I understand if you'd like to remain anonymous) and their interests and etc, I would really love that!!!! (3 And also tell me what your favorite movie is!! Mine is Ghost World dir. Terry Zwigoff.(/p)

tw: depression, mental health and studying

Hey guys! I hope you're all doing well! I just wanted to ask if any of you guys take anti depressants and if so, if it affects your studying at all? Or if anyone has suffered from depression and anxiety and how that fared with preparing for this test. I'm asking because although I have been taking an antidepressant (wellbutrin/dopamine reuptake inhibitor) now for over a year, my doctor has recently prescribed to me an SSRI, serotonin medication. This actually isn't for my depression as I've been pretty content and not depressed for a while now, thankfully. But this new medicine is to help me treat my OCD. I ask because SSRIs are typically used to treat depression.

I've had my prescription filled for my new medicine and haven't taken it yet. I wanted to hear if any of ya'll have prepared for a big test like this while taking antidepressants and battling mental health issues since they affect concentration, sleep quality, appetite, etc. Also, I know this is a sensitive topic so I am sorry if anything said in this thread is offensive! xx

Rant/HELP (with RC)

I know there are so many threads on how to squash RC on here. But I really feel like I'm a rare case of someone who sucks harder than average at RC. Like oh my god. Every PT I take, I go -0-3 on each section. Then RC rolls around and even during BR, I get like -10+. Like what the hell??? Please someone lol give me a hand. Teach me your ways. How do I own RC instead of RC owning me?!?!?!?! It's literally the only thing stopping me from hitting 175+

Where to re-begin....

Like many of you, I took the July LSAT today. I don't know how I did so I am hoping for the best but assuming the worst. In this case, where should I begin PTing again from? I've already used all of PTs 36-84 and everything in the CC. I'm asking this incase I have to restart my studies again incase today's test did not go well.

@ you are doing amazing! i don’t think i did that well either. But i just remind myself there’s nothing more i can do about It now. I just have to wait till the 8th!!

So basically I followed the guidelines on LSAC's page where you upload your admission ticket photo. This is the photo on my admission ticket.

I just read the instructions on the extra pages printed when you print your admission ticket and it says that "The photo must have been taken within the last six months." I did not see that requirement on the page where I uploaded the photo. The photo meets all other requirements, looks like me, etc. But now I'm freaking out.

I know what you're thinking--- how will they know that I didn't take it within the last six months? Well because I've used the same photo for other LSATs before. I guess I was just stupid and didn't realize one of the requirements until now. So now I'm like freaking out. Anyways, I was let in the other times like normal. I also wear glasses to the exam and in my photo I don't wear glasses but I am recognizable otherwise. I think I'll be okay lol but I'm still scared. I think worse comes to worst, there will just be a delay in reporting my score if LSAC realizes it's an old photo. But I don't think proctors will have any other materials to distinguish us from besides their roster with our LSAC photos next to our name. Like I'm saying I don't think they will get to see how old the photo was or if it had been used for another administration. But what do I know?

I'm so scared lol.

Haha yeah - thanks a lot. I always read those comments like prepare for the worst, but I didn’t think I needed to practice taking the test with one eye closed. Just a suggestion for all you out there who wear contacts, try a section with only your non-dominate eye!

lolololol didn't get to bed until 430 am annnnndddd only gets to use one eye. i wore conacts during the test. but i honestly think if i were in your shoes, i would just be like fuck it and quit. or just keep both eyes open (more comfortable than keeping one closed) and read in a blur. so kudos to you for holding it down during the sections.

July test takers, what are y’all doing?

What’s your schedule from today to test day on Monday? I did my last PT (84) today and scored what i typically score. No ugly or sexy surprises. Tomorrow, i have plans to go to my doctor appointment, read the economist, drill one section for confidence and meditate.

On Thursday, I’m getting a facial, meditating, watching movies. Then Friday-Saturday i will be reading the economist and meditating and doing 1-2 confidence sections as well as preparing my zip loc bag with test day stuff. Sunday night — nothing — will probably binge watch a show or something.

What are y’all doing?

That's insane! I wonder where they all went???? I'd just keep on the lookout for an email from LSAC about it and they'll give you a refund or a chance to take it on the makeup day.

Did I say "stopping cheating/blatant rule violation is “ball busting" " ?????? I'm just drawing a distinction -- not calling @'s proctor a ball buster. Incidences like that happen all the time. I'm sure plenty of people bubble in on their answer sheet after the section had already been called. You can have a proctor who sits and stares at their phone the entire time and not notice what you do. Or you could have one that watches everyone like a hawk. It depends on luck and other factors. My proctor let kids go to the bathroom even while the demographics were being filled out also let kids eat/drink during the test. I've also had a proctor who didn't take action when ppl brought their phones.

Anyways, I think you should write an addendum about it. I think this is an incident that probably happens way too often but people either just don't get caught or it isn't reported and I'm sure adcomms are aware of that and will understanding when you provide a compelling argument

I think you should upgrade to the Ultimate plus and extend it as you see fit in three months.

This is what it costs to currently extend on my Ult+ account.

Add 6 months $74.99 ($12.50/month, save 50%)

Add 3 months $44.99 ($15.00/month, save 40%)

Add 2 months $34.99 ($17.50/month, save 30%)

Add 1 month $24.99 ($24.99/month, save 0%)

Was it after the 5th section or one of the other sections? It's crazy how who you have as a proctor matters so much. I'm sorry but I'm sure it's happened before. Some proctors can really be major ball busters and others are so lackadaisical

@-SERIES yes it was the real LG. how did you feel about it? i also had two LG's. my test was LG RC LR break LR LG. i knew the mining was real because they hardly ever put experimental in sections 4-5 (this is just what i've heard) also my first LG was way too easy to not be experimental.

Does this sound like a good plan?

So basically, I'm registered to take the June 2018 LSAT and I've been studying for a little over a year now. I'm just now realizing that if I can just go -0 to -3 in LG, It will bring my PT trends to my goal score of 170+ I have been taking 1-3 practice tests a week until I realized this a few days ago.

Since today is Feb 15th, I was thinking, how does It sound if starting today, I only drill logic games until March 11th (3 months away from the June test) then continue with my weekly PTs, targeting problem areas and LR and RC stuff, everything. Or should I be honing in on all three sections –– instead of just LG –– during this PT hiatus?

Help interpreting LSAC lingo...

The school requires 2 LORs.

The total number of required documents is 2.

The school will only accept up to 3 LORs.

The total number accepted cannot exceed 3.

Accepts letters of recommendation when the initial law school report is ready to be sent and when LSAC has received at least 2 letters of recommendation.

The law school report will be updated and sent each time LSAC receives a letter of recommendation.

Does this mean that if I'm waiting on one more professor for a letter (I've assigned two letters {which is the number required for this specific app} to this application. Only one of them is received. But waiting on another), and I submit my application now without having my professor having uploaded my letter -- the professor can upload it later and the law school report will update it?

Basically what I am asking lol is if I can go forth and pay the application fee and submit my application, even without one of the letters assigned being received yet?

I know that the Nov LSAT is on the 17th. A lot of schools have their ED deadline as the 15th though, despite the website saying that students taking November LSAT are still eligible to apply ED. In this situation, do you have to call the school and tell them what's going on and they will make a note in your file?

If you already have a reportable score, I think you have to email them and tell them to hold your application until your November score comes out. Otherwise, they will evaluate based on the score you already have.

If you don't have a reportable score and they let you apply ED without a score, they are going to wait for your score anyways, so I don't think you need to make a call.

hey @ ! i already have a reportable score, but have not submitted the application yet even though it's ready to be sent out. should i call them about this before the application is sent or after?

USC automatically holds an app if the applicant is scheduled for a future LSAT and applicants can't even ask not to hold. Duke will automatically hold your app if you indicated on the app that you would take a future LSAT. But some schools (like Cornell) have a policy not to hold. I'm not sure if Columbia and NYU (which both have the 11/15 ED deadline) will automatically hold.

So I recommend calling the school to find out what their policy is before you send the app. They might say "Oh we don't hold. Once you sumbit it, your file is complete," right? In that case, I think you should submit on 11/15 and pray that they don't evaluate your app before 12/8.

thank you so much for your help! yeah i called nyu, and they told me once i submit the app, to send them an email asking them to hold and then they will reply confirmining they've received my request. :)

Confidence, timing and feigning enjoyment

Hello all! I've had this problem for a while now. But I've been having trouble closing the gap between timed score and BR score. The gap is dramatic like from 150s-160s timed to high 170s untimed. It varies. I know it's not a fluke because I have been getting high 170s during BR for the last like 5 or so practice tests.

During a timed preptest, I find myself being increasingly anxious. It kills my mood for the rest of the section and so on -- which obviously tanks my timed score. I just began meditating several days ago to try to combat my anxiety and focus. It helps to a degree but that drastically. Although I am skipping, I do have a tendency to spend time on time sink questions and have a tendency to second guess my instinct.

I really need help on trying to close this gap and working on my confidence before the July test. I know there's no magical formula to being able to close this gap, any advice would really be appreciated!

Find out actual score first or BR score first?

Do you guys first grade your PT just to see the score in analytics without seeing the correct answers, and then blind review, or do you guys take the PT, blind review and then put it all into analytics?

I've always done it the second way. But I'm wondering if anyone prefers to do it the first way?

Oh my god. So I just graded my most recent PT (76), I got a 158 and BR 163. I'm literally in shock. I have been consistently scoring in the high 160s and BR in the high 170s for months now. I'm trying to get above a 170 on the July test. What should I do? Reevaluate my whole life??????????

Discussing mental health in USC addendum?

So #10 on the USC Gould app says to explain the variance in multiple LSAT scores or whether or not you feel your scores shack up to your full potential. I am thinking about discussing how my test day anxiety led me to underperform on test day. And how I went to see a psychiatrist for this anxiety so I could take care of it for test day -- but obviously it wasn't to much avail if I scored a few points below my full potential on the real thing. Note: I don't get testing accommodations and never have. But I've had problems with anxiety since I was a kid.

Basically, my question is, do ya'll think it's taboo to write about my anxiety and the medical help I sought during the time I was studying/taking the LSAT (hopefully it shows my effort to remedy what was causing me to underperform)?

LR "curve-breaker questions" list?

Hey guys! I'm sure most of you, like me, get excited whenever JY says that a question is a curve breaker question and you happened to get it right. I know the question bank has questions organized by most difficult. But I was wondering if any of you have a few specific questions that have been deemed "curve breaker." I'm asking because I'd like to gather them all and hone in on them haha. These are the questions that stump even the highest scorers. I have horrible recollection of past specific preptests and which questions were hard but of course every test has them. So far I only have a couple specific ones in mind:

  • Rattlesnake; PT 30 S2
  • Joggers; PT 64 S1
  • If you know any specifics, please comment! :)

    Distractions and overthinking during RC

I find that in RC (my worst section), I get a heinous amount of answers incorrect because I am overthinking and trying to absorb every single detail of the passage into my mind rather than just reading for the overall structure, argument, (aka what the questions are asking) etc. and end up losing myself. Does anyone else have a problem with this? And if so, how did you combat It? Did you just try to keep on reminding yourself to zoom out? Cause that's what I do but It definitely takes getting used to since I've been reading the same way for like 20 years now....

Also, I was wondering if you guys ever get distracted whilst studying? Haha so I don't feel alone. What distracts you? Sometimes I read magazine articles or take my phone off airplane mode and respond to texts. Sometimes I check Twitter. Sometimes I try to do some online shopping/browsing.

    Advice for isolating RC

Like many, I hate RC. It's my worst section. I was wondering if any of you have any advice on how to isolate and focus on RC studying between weekly preptests? For LG, I fool proof past games and for LR, I just review old questions and target problem areas/question types. These two methods seem to be working well for me as I've made considerable progress.

However, besides using the memory method, I have no idea how to begin isolating RC practice. Feigning interest in the passage topic somewhat helps a little bit but it's not enough for me to really speed up my reading and increasing my accuracy when it comes to tackling the questions. Currently I'm more so worried about accuracy and confidence during RC practice rather than speed.

Any pieces of advice are welcome! Xx

Without giving too much away as I'm still BR-ing LSAT C2, can someone please elaborate what such a flaw is? I don't think I've seen this type of flaw description before. In S3 Q18 of this preptest, one of the answer choices is that the argument "Draws a conclusion based on an ambiguous notion of knowledge." What's that mean? lol can someone give me an example in laymen's terms that can illustrate what this flaw would look like?

    Gatorade vs water

Since it's a few weeks before test day, I want to plan what I'm going to eat for the next two weeks and during every PT/practice. For the break, I'm unsure if I should bring/drink water or gatorade. I know water is the most logical thirst quencher but I want something that will make me less inclined to use the bathroom and I heard gatorade is good for this.

For snacks I'm thinking of bringing ritz crackers and dark chocolate M&Ms or Nutella & Go breadsticks with dark chocolate M&Ms. If there's any snack/beverage combo you guys have ritualized, I'd love to hear it!! Does anyone drink gatorade instead of water?

    Confirm action

    Are you sure?
