Boston Study Group?

Hi everyone, my name is Tony Conigliaro and I am a senior at Boston University. I am planning to take the LSAT in August, and was wondering if anyone else on here is from Boston and would like to study together?

LSAC Waiver

Hello Everyone! I am 21 years old, but I file independently because I take care of 100% of my living. I am not married and don't have any kids. I'm not sure why LSAC automatically marks me as a dependent and requires my parents' tax information to receive the fee waiver. Does anyone know a way to bypass this? I'm guessing it is because of my age but it doesn't make sense that it automatically thinks everyone receives help from their parents. Thanks in advance!

When sentences start with "Even if" or "Even when" or "Even though", I've had a bit of trouble parsing out why LSAT writers put the word "even" there in the first place.

I've come to the conclusion the word "even" is irrelevant when evaluating logical arguments. We don't need to look at it when we are parsing out sentences, because there is usually already a phrase that encompasses the logical meaning of what comes after "even". The word "even" indicates an additional premise that the author may be using as a concession to an argument, but nonetheless is irrelevant when it comes to understanding the basic logical structure.

For example, a very simplified version:

All animals are cute, even if they are brown.

Dogs are animals.

Therefore, dogs are cute.

Here, in this example, and in all the examples of the word "even" I have so far encountered, the even is essentially doing nothing for us from a logical standpoint. The phrase "all animals are cute" already encompasses brown animals, because we are talking about every single animal in the world, so we must be also talking about brown animals.

We do not even need the point that brown ones are cute. So it's doing nothing here but distracting us.

I've found that that is the case for all sentences and phrases that start with "even if".

NOTE: For RC, it may be a little different. Although for logical purposes it may be irrelevant, "even if" in RC could emphasize the author's tone and how he feels, which is much more relevant for RC than LR.

This analysis is from my personal experience going through LR problems. If anyone can find a use of the word "even" that is relevant in logical reasoning, please share.

Dear AO

Greetings, 7Sagers!

Announcing 7Sage's new weekly advice column, "Dear AO"! It's a "Dear Abby"-style column where you can ask any question to former law school admissions officers. Each week, we'll publish our answers to a couple of our favorite questions.

We invite you to submit questions about anything related to law school admissions, from personal statements to LOCIs to scholarship reconsideration. While we won't be able to answer every question on the blog (https://classic.7sage.com/blog/), we will do our best to address a strong cross-section of the inquiries we receive.

Submit questions here: https://forms.gle/3kUJCAAY45fVxtjn8.

Stay tuned for our first responses starting Wednesday, February 28!

Warmly,

Taj McCoy and Sam Riley

Reading Comp Tips

I plan on taking the June test and my numbers for LR/LG are almost right where I want them to be. However, I am struggling to see results in RC. Does anyone have any tips that helped them have a breakthrough or see more progress in RC?

Remote Test Setup Tips

Hi everyone! I was hoping to get some tips on what to expect for taking the exam remote. I am taking the April next week and want to make sure I don't run into any issues during my exam, so I would appreciate any advice on things to do before the exam in terms of setup. Thanks!

Lawhub Not Working

Hello,

I bought 7 sage a few days ago and I just purchased the lawhub subscription today but my 7sage says

"You successfully linked 7Sage to your LSAC account, however your LSAC account does not have an active LawHub Advantage subscription. Please purchase or renew LawHub Advantage on your LSAC account directly from LSAC by logging into lawhub.lsac.org, then tapping on your name in the top right corner, then “Upgrade to LawHub Advantage.”

Please let me know how to fix this so I can get studying.

Hi folks,

This isn't a question about the LSAT, but it is a question about law school admissions and in particular the LSAC, so I hope it's still permissible to ask it on this forum.

I've not yet purchased CAS (Credential Assembly Service), and I'd like to do so as soon as possible (preferably by next week). I understand that in order to do that I need to list all of the institutions I've attended.

But on the page on the LSAC where I'm supposed to add all the institutions I've attended, I find this sentence: "Please carefully review your responses before selecting the Confirm button to submit your institutions attended to LSAC. Once you click on Confirm, you will not be able to edit your institutions."

This wouldn't be a problem if I were absolutely certain which institutions I should list, but I'm not. For:

I studied abroad for a year and I'm not absolutely certain I don't need an international transcript in addition to my domestic transcript. I don't THINK I do because I only attended for a year and the program was sponsored by my home institution, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

I believe I took two college courses from a different institution (not my undergraduate institution and not my study abroad institution) when I was in high school, but I can't remember exactly. Maybe it was three. And I don't remember the exact year.

The question: is it really the case that I have to know definitively the answer to these questions before I can "select the Confirm button"? Is it really true that I can't edit the school information page/the institutions attended page if I figure out I've made a mistake or that I do need to add the study abroad institution or that I do need to add the school I attended while I was a high school student.

I find it inconceivable that LSAC wouldn't allow people to make edits to that page in case they make a mistake or need to supplement it.

Am I wrong?

Peaked and declining…

On full PTs, I scored a 178 and 179 in my PTs and then was scoring slightly lower at 173-176, but now I’ve scored 172 twice in a row. I can see I’m capable of that near perfect score, but now I am worried about the recent decline especially as I get close to the April test date.

For the entire time, I’ve been taking a full PT and blind reviewing on weekends and taking 1-2 sections on weekdays to take 2-3 tests a week.

Has anyone else experienced similar score declines and how did you combat them?

I had a sick parent all through college (diagnosed freshman year) who died in my junior year. I am writing an addendum to explain my 3.46 GPA, how detailed should it be? Should I include every major event that affected my schoolwork or a simple timeline of what I had to deal with? Do I explain how my priority wasn't my schoolwork but to my family for basically my entire time at college? I just want to know the proper way to do this without it sounding like a sob story.

I graduated from undergrad with a low GPA. After two years of working post-grad, I was diagnosed with ADHD. Since I have become medicated, my performance has drastically increased. Would it be ill-advised to mention this in a GPA addendum? I am worried that this will sound like an excuse or negatively impact my chances. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Most vulnerable to criticism

Q-In a certain nation, stringent regulations prevent private landowners from building on their land if any endangered species is present on it. These regulations make the presence of endangered species a severe financial liability for many landowners and thereby discourage the landowners from protecting the endangered species on their land. Therefore, endangered species would very likely not be harmed by removal of the regulations on land development.

Correct Answer- (C) It unjustifiably overlooks the possibility that even if certain factors tend to produce a given effect, they may be likely to produce stronger countervailing effects as well

I picked A, but how can something "produce stronger countervailing effects" if countervailing literally means "offsetting an effect by countering it with something of equal force"? How can something produce a stronger equal effect?

Admin Note: Edited title. For LR questions, please use the format: "PT#.S#.Q# - brief description of the question."

I was in between A and C, and still don't understand how C is correct and A isn't

C: when comparing frighterning and non-frightening experience there is not a direct correlation because some positive experiences also release adrenaline therefore more memory retention

A: when comparing frighterning and non-frightening experience there is not a direct correlation because in some of the intense experiences, there is less memory retention
