I'm not 100% sure but, I believe they did something like this last July but it wasn't exclusive to first time takers. It does make me believe that lsatregistration for first time takers are low and this might be a way to get more people to take the test.

@granny_smith hi there, im kind of confused. When i go to the LSAC website i do not see anywhere a decemberLSAT option? I am registered for nov and jan but definitely wouldve tried to december. Am i missing something?
if you did not withdraw before the night of your exam, i believe a designation of "absent" will appear on your record.
