They aren't to trick you. I'd just be forward and answer honestly. And if you're worried about schools not taking you seriously, then write a "WHYX" essay for each school you are serious about attending.
I'm working on all of my WhyX essays and my DS. It's kept my mind off of gray day for the most part. oh, and video games, lots and lots and lots of video games.

I think it's useful! I've self toured NYU, Columbia and Fordham. I feel like it gave me a good sense of the campus life and will give me some specifics to write about in my WhyX essays.

@westcoastbestcoast thank you! This is really helpful. I only submitted on January 10, so it wasn't too long ago, but I'll at least start putting together a WhyX letter/essay (I chose a different optional essay to submit with my application).
