RC line citations are no longer highlighted for you.

They used to be highlighted in the old interface, making what you're asked about easier to spot. Now you have to find the referenced text yourself.

OLD, EASIER:

NEW, "IMPROVED":

You'll want to use a combination of the search box and plain ol' counting sentences and paragraphs to find what you're asked about now. You'll get used to it.

A few other updates to match LawHub's behavior:

  • Masking mode resets when you switch questions.

  • Clicking a selected answer doesn't de-select it, and you can't eliminate a selected answer in masking mode. To de-select, pick a different answer or click reset response.

  • You can't select an eliminated answer — you have to unmask it first.

this is the dumbest shit I've ever seen, if it wasn't already stressful theyre making it 10 times harder especially for students struggling. fuck LSAC

LSAC is honestly such a crappy organization!! How do they think this is fair? Don't they realize this change puts more recent test takers at a disadvantage compared to prior test takers? They only care about making things easier for the law schools they serve. They don't care about candidates at all. Also, even if you're an experienced test taker and know what to highlight, the highlighting function is more time-consuming to use. I repeat... LSAC sucks!!

It makes it all the more frustrating that LSAC either has not, will not, and/or cannot provide a valid explanation for this change (and if they have, they've done a neglectful job to inform test takers). Beyond their "security concerns," there seems to be no real benefit towards their goal of accurately measuring an individual's ability to actually take the test.

What purpose does this serve besides making the exam arbitrarily more difficult for students?

it's frustrating they keep making the changes when the August test is 3 weeks away. At this point they are just doing this to make the test more tedious and time consuming.

What a lovely and arbitrary normal-curve-manufacturing change that does absolutely nothing to evaluate your abilities 😍 Thank you LSAC 🙏

Given we are 3 weeks out from the August test, do you expect more changes to the interface between now and then? My concern is that they throw in a new change right before I take the test and I get a curveball when I start.

@EvanS There are a few minor changes we will make to match LawHub's current tester (related to information that appears when hovering over various items, as well as small formatting issues when reading a passage in "Passage only" mode). But we don't expect any other changes.

This seems quite unusual for LSAC to change the exam UI so much. It seems that they are intentionally making the exam harder. First the lsat test interface changed and the text became smaller, then the mask feature was made more difficult, then the highlighting feature was changed, and now this.

@AlexHaro I think they are definitely making features more time consuming!

@AlexHaro Facts! Because law schools keep complaining about score inflation. The thing is... smaller text doesn't assess your reasoning abilities. It assesses whether or not your vision is 20/20. Many of these changes are silly and unproductive. Now that I know what they are trying to do, I will begin drilling super difficult science passages, because that's an easy way for them to make the exam as a whole harder.

"IMPROVED" being in quotes is cracking me up lol. A bit of levity in a dire/irritating situation, but we will get through this! Thanks for the update @Kevin_Lin

Does anyone know if keyboard shortcuts like Cmd+F/Ctrl+F are permitted on the computers they use at the testing centers?

    @haena There's a search box!

@ScrumptiousBiscuts Oh yes! I was just wondering about keyboard shortcuts because it's a teeny bit faster for me 😅

I was just thinking after I saw that change in the highlighter tool, "Could this get any worse?".... Welp, they just did it(again)... I'm really starting to think that they are out of "super hard questions" for new LSATs, so they are using these methods to torture us on exam day instead lololol.

@phi It's a classic case of "the students are able to do what we asked of them!! oh no!!! our poor normal curve!! we need to manufacture a normal curve by any means necessary!!!"

Is the highlighter gone on these types of questions too

I opened a support ticket thinking something was broken, sorry for blaming y'all

I hope they don’t have questions in upcoming LSAT asking us to count sentences like that. Maybe they will use this less in the future. It kind of ruins older questions of this type unless this is just the new format. I sort of hope they just get away from these types of questions instead.
