Admissions

I had a Skype interview today with an alum of the school, and he suggested letting the admissions office know if I’ve gotten into other programs. He added that the admissions office appreciates the transparency and will likely render a decision sooner. Is this true for most/all schools? I’m at the edge of my seat waiting to hear back from a different school, since my husband got a job offer in the same city. He doesn’t want to accept the job until I’m admitted. I have been admitted to 5 schools. Thoughts? Thanks!

I have 3 waitlist interviews scheduled for next week, 1 for 15 min, 1 for 30 min, 1 for 30-60 minutes. Does anyone with experience with waitlist interviews have tips on how to prepare and what to expect? Any experiences or resources would be so appreciated! Thanks!

Have gpa and LSAT above 75th percentile for the schools I’m shooting for and have already had offers. I’m in grad school and professors are dragging with the letters. I have one strong lor from graduate internship ready to go. I am looking for scholarship $. How important is an academic lor? Should I hold out and go forward with the applications now with the one letter? Gpa and LSAT and graduate gpa are all excellent

Hello fellow 7sagers!

I'm sorry if my post is outside the usual scope of 7sage discussions, but I was curious to see if anybody else is in a similar situation as me or has any advice to share.

When I originally decided to go to law school, I was planning on going to law school in the United States (where I'm from), but after evaluating some extenuating circumstances in my life, I decided it would be best for my health to go to Ireland for law school where I can get better access to medical care (I'm a type one diabetic if anybody is wondering). I'm still planning on taking the LSAT, but I was wondering if there was anybody on here who knows anything about international law school admissions (specifically in Ireland) or if there's anybody who's in a similar situation as me. All replies are greatly appreciated! Also, if you took the time to read my post thank you! Stay safe everybody!

I have worked abroad for the last decade and my undergraduate and master's degrees were attained far in past. I think Moses wasn't shaving yet when I got my MA. I am not deterred by the notion of having my LOR translated, but I do worry about the authors' facility with LSAC's English-only website.

If anyone knows about the step-by-step process for uploading LOR, I would like to translate it. I have asked LSAC for the same with screen shots, but am preemptively asking here in case they come up gor nisht.

Of course, in the event that LSAC comes through, then all of your birthdays will have come at once and I'll be the one doling out the multilingual screen shots.

Thanks in advance? You're welcome in advance? To be concluded...

I got with a "HOLD" yesterday morning from a school I am interested in. No other information other than saying they have reviewed my file once but have not made a decision yet - accept, deny, or WL.

I've heard mixed responses. Some people say to send an LOCI and others say to not do anything to not burden law school officers with more materials.

I have no idea what the best thing to do is. Should I send an LOCI or should I sit down and do nothing?

Hi all,

I am still waiting to hear back from a couple of schools, I applied end of December/early January. With deposit deadlines coming up/some already passed I believe sufficient time has gone by. I have seen mixed advice online whether or not to send a LOCI before you hear back at all.

Is it inappropriate to send a short email reiterating my interest and commitment to the school?

Thank you!

Hi guys,

I know that it's not good to start in the Spring semester compared to the Fall semester but let's just say that I start in the Spring semester then plan on transferring after 1L to a better law school.

Is it actually possible to transfer after 1L with spring semester start? or do you know any schools that do accept?

I know that you can for the Fall semester start and I know that it's going to be difficult and people will say I shouldn't attend if I plan on transferring to a new school.

But besides all that, is it possible?

Any experience or opinions?

Thank you.

Hello! Just got my April score back and received a 172. Pretty happy with it, as my average is a 171. The thing is, my GPA is no bueno; a 3.24. I don't plan on going to any top-top schools, but, as a California resident, I would love to have a shot at UC Berkeley, UCLA, or USC. My last 3 PTs before the test were a 175, a 173, and a 176 which makes me feel like I could do better. I am already signed up for June but I'm not sure if trying to grind this month for a few points more would be that beneficial as I've already passed those schools' medians and regardless I'm going to be a splitter. I feel that spending my time on my essays instead would probably have a larger impact overall. Let me know what yall think!

Are these admissions tips common knowledge…or shocking revelation?

Jake is an old hand when it comes to dispensing pearls of law school admission wisdom. But Clayton is a relative newbie and was surprised to hear Jake’s answers to often-asked admissions questions.

In this episode, Clayton gets a chance to ask “say what?” about Jake’s admissions best practices.

They touch on vague statement prompts, whether optional really means optional, what’s so baffling about resumes, and much more.

Hi All,

To quickly summarize:

I applied to law schools last year with a162 LSAT score, and a strong resume of federal government and political work. I got into most schools I applied to, receiving 50% - 70% scholarships from every school I got into.

I decided to decline all of my acceptances. I work as a political consultant for progressive candidates and campaigns around the country, and I felt that I needed to stay working in the campaign world for one more year. When I told my company I was leaving for law school, they gave me a huge promotion, which included allowing me to oversee all of the national political projects and campaigns that our company was working on. I was/am in a unique position to help candidates I support get elected, and causes I care about get brought to the national conversation. I'm glad I stayed. It's been the right decision.

That being said, I am reapplying because I want to keep my options open, and my doors open, just in case.

Clearly I feel that my applications and essays were very strong, as they resulted in me getting solid scholarships to the schools I wanted to go to.

My question is this: do you guys think I can re-use my personal statement and/or optional essays? How much do you I need to change? They personal statement was very strong and it worked out for me very well. I'd prefer not to have to change it, but I could see why that may look bad to an admissions committee.

Would REALLY value your thoughts here!

Thanks!

I applied to HLS/CLS/Chi a few times, but since then my score (171) has expired and I retook this Oct.

I wrote a new PS for this cycle (using partly on my previous apps' PS) that's based on my long work-ex in tech industry.

Would be interested to know the feedback from those with law school experience.

  • Any law school student/graduate with experience with essays who can read my PS?

An old boss of mine has agreed to provide me a LOR but was asking for some guidance on the finer points like:

  • the recipient address
  • should they use the letterhead from their personal company (I didn't work with them in this company, both of us worked for another company we no longer serve now)
  • how long should the letter aim to be (page/word count)
  • Also if anyone has samples of strong LOR from an employer, I'd love to see them.

    Thanks!

    Hey, fellow law school applicants!

I'm currently in the process of preparing my law school applications, and I have a question regarding submitting multiple letters of recommendation. I have two professors who have graciously agreed to write me specific letters of recommendation for my top school choices. Additionally, they are also willing to write a more generic letter that I can use for all other schools I'm applying to. However, I'm a bit confused about the logistics of submitting multiple letters. I was hoping to get some advice from those who have been through a similar situation. Is it possible for them to submit multiple letters? If so, how should we go about submitting them to assure they don't get mixed up since I will be waiving my right to view the letters?

    Thanks in advance!

    Morning everyone–

I am in the process of drafting a diversity statement for my applications, but I am not fully convinced I need to write one. My PS already addresses my religious/racial diversity. My diversity statement would just be highlighting a different aspect of my diversity not mentioned in my PS. I feel as though it would be repetitive to submit both, but I would love to hear y'alls input on this. Thank you in advance!

Hello there! I graduated college in 2001 with a degree in communications with an emphasis on pre-law. The only professor I had the majority of classes with was arrested for embezzlement after I graduated. He was one of THE TOP professors and knew me well. I found him online. Is his arrest an immediate NO! To a LOR? He’d be the best person if it weren’t for his arrest 19 years ago. Additionally, would it be acceptable to use a coach for a LOR? I wrote a book and have a coach that can attest to my drive, critical reading and writing, heavy workload ability, etc. my other coach is a singing coach. She is very well respected around the world and I actually turned the tables and coached her for a national pageant which she won. I haven’t worked full time in awhile as I had cancer and was out for quite some time, so I have one recent boss but for a vitamin store. I’m healthy now thank goodness and devoting my full time to lsat & admissions. I also sued someone and won the case pro se in 2020– I have an attorney friend of family is a witness to what I went through & how hard I worked—by myself. I’m sorry this is so long but all three have agreed to write a LOR but I’m not sure if they are adequate. Can someone PLEASE lend some insight? THANK YOU!!!

I'm on waitlist for NYU and I got a Kira invite-to do an interview. Any and all advice welcome and what kind of questions are they likely to ask, that I should be practicing? (other than why law/why NYU)
