Hi everyone,

I recently completed my 4 year tour of active duty in the military. I am considering joining the reserves to maintain some of my health care and retirement benefits, while earning a paycheck. If I were to join the reserves it would require a 1 weekend per month and 2 weeks a year work obligation. I am hesitant to do this before I apply to law school. Will admissions counselors look down on my application if they see that I am in the reserves? Joining the reserves means I could be called at any time to service regardless of my school/work obligations. Are law schools willing to work with students in the reserves? I know my prior years of active duty will look great on the resume and personal statement part of my application. Does anyone have any experience or know of someone doing this?

Apologies if theres another discussion that already covers this!

I finished the CC a while back and am planning on taking the January LSAT. I've noticed that my main area of weakness is with LG. Right now, i'm only getting each section about half right and I tend to run out of time for one game in each section. At this point I know I need to focus on fool--proofing LG but am wondering what the best strategy for this would be?

I've read some people say to do PT's 1-35 over and over again to fool--proof but i've also heard from others that the LG sections in those PT's are vastly different to newer PT's (and that those PT's might not be as useful).

I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance on which PT's are the best to fool--proof?

I'm watching his RC reviews(PT 58+) and I noticed that his videos are unusually longer than the previous series...

Is it the first time he introduced the Low-Res/High-Res techniques and AB technique for comparative passages (and for the rest of PT58+) ???

P.S. I am VERY excited to listen to his detailed ver. reviews! : )

PT's

Hey guys,

I just had a general question regarding PT's. So if I wanted to take a 5 section PT, how would I go about adding another section to the PT? For example the PT's within the curriculum only have 4 sections in them and I was confused the other day because there is a 5 section proctor available but all of the PT's are only 4 sections. I don't know if I am asking a pretty obvious question but I couldn't figure out how to simulate 5 sections like i'll need to do test day. Thanks guys and any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey guys,

I’ve been practicing in/out games for a while and although I understand most of it, there are a few things that still confuse me enough to throw me off. Hopefully someone can help clear that up :)

I normally get confused with conditionals. For example:

I understand /A—>B is an either or rule so at least 1 has to be in. I would put a place holder in the in group to visualize that.

B—>\C is a not both rule so at least 1 has to be out, so I would put a placeholder in the out group.

I seem to get confused when there is either a chain or a biconditional.

Ie: /A—>B—>C ( I would usually put 2 placeholders for /A—>B and /A—>C ) I get confused when A is in because then b and c become floaters and the 2nd placeholder doesn’t necessarily need to be there.

Or

If I’m given a couple of rules and they happen to link up as a biconditional. I.e -pt 83 game 3

We have

/N—>R

N—>L

R—>M

L—>/R

before I link them up I would place my placeholders. 1 in the in group (/N—>R) and one in the out group (L—>/R)

After you link them however, L, N and R become a biconditional so we know LN Always together and R is alway apart.

When I compare this to my original placeholders, I’m not sure what happened lol

Any advice would be appreciated. Please let me know if you guys would like me to clarify anything :)

Thanks!

This may be a stupid question, but I can't find law school applications online for the two schools to which I most want to apply. 7sage recommends researching the applications to discover what questions I'll be asked and so I can prepare my essays - and I wholeheartedly agree - but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Can anyone help?

Round 2

Hi 7sagers

I'm back. I took a 1-2 week break after the Sept LSAT.

I didn't log on to 7sage or look at any LSAT material.

Weirdly and strangely, I miss you guys. LOL From logging on everyday and doing PTs. Checking my work. Taking breaks and looking at the discussion board...and then just going MIA for 2 weeks, feels like forever.

My sept LSAT (first real LSAT) was rough. I was nervous and I found myself not 100% focusing on the test. But instead, sweating and thinking about the time. I'll be honest, I don't think I did that great.

I also didn't cancel my score because I wanted to see what I got wrong and learn from it. Another reason why is because 100% of the schools I'm looking at takes the highest grade.

It's be rough and really stressful. but there is nothing I can do now but prepare for the Nov LSAT.

I feel more confident as I know what the environment is like now. I will be back to studying next monday!

I'm excited....which is weird LOL. but I feel better. I know what to expect. I know the questions. I know the format.

I just feel better this time around! of course I still have the nerves because its the FREAKING LSAT! but...not as much.

I miss you guys! good luck to all.

BACK TO THE GRIND!

Hi wonderful people,

I am just reaching the end of the LR portion of the CC and I am feeling good, but nervous for logic games. Do you think I should review all of the LR i studied from the beginning for a few days and then move to logic games, or just carry on or alternatively, do both at the same time.

Any advice and encouragement for logic games is appreciated :')

Hi,

My 7Sage account is expiring in 3 days. I have taken the September LSAT and am waiting for the results. Is there a way that I can keep my account until I get the results back and decide if I want to extent my subscription then? Or do I have to pay again if I decide to take the November test?

Thanks.

Anyone ever heard of Kibin? Just randomly came across it a few minutes ago. Not sure if it's any good (please comment if you know), but thought I'd point it out for those of us who can't afford $1500+ for help on essays. Says in their FAQ that the average essay assistance costs about $30. Not sure if we're allowed to post links; try Googling "Kibin personal statements"

Hey guys,

I know some of the videos are transcribed but I was wondering if there was a way I could use closed captioning for some of the videos if its available? And how would I do this? Closed caption while watching would be really useful to me since I try to sneak in some videos while I'm at work and can't use my headphones. Thank you.

Is there a PT score/BR score combination at which drilling becomes an ineffectively use of time and instead one should solely focus on PTing with BR?

Or do even folks with PT170+/BR near 180 still drill?

I'm trying to grapple with how much drilling vs. PTing I should be doing

November'18 Study Group | Blind Review PT 62 | Friday, September 21 | 7:30 PM EST

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/justdance/images/0/09/Lets_get_this_party_started.gif

Hello! We are starting now :)

Our first decision as a group is when to have our call. There's an admissions seminar this Thursday at 9:00 PM EST: https://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/17705/admissions-webinar-editing-giveaway-thursday-sep-20-9-p-m-et

Please vote by Tuesday, September 18, 11:59 PM EST for your preference.

If you are done the curriculum or almost done the curriculum, join us when you can. We welcome people in all stages of prep. The point of the group is to get your lsat nerd on with other like-minded people and make the process more fun. Expand your thinking and learning by interacting with others! For my fellow shy-people, everyone is going to be focused on their own answers/questions that I guarantee you they will not be judging you based on mispronounced words, reading-speed, etc. It's all for fun!

Note: Take the PT under timed conditions; BR to the best of your abilities; join us for all or part of the call! For the purposes of the group please don't check the answers beforehand. If you happen to know the answer, keep it to yourself, and win the argument using your reasoning. Also, please don't go "so I know the answer is C but I don't know why B is wrong?" as the purpose is so that we all collaborate on improving our reasoning skills.

Enter the questions you wish to go over on the spreadsheet below! Write your name beside the question(s) you wish to cover, if the question(s) you want to cover are already marked by someone else, add your name! :) The more discussion, the merrier.

Based off of my experience and deliberation with some other folks, we're going to try something new for this group. Instead of having a call every week, we will instead have a call every other week. The reason being is that I think that the process of taking a PT, BR-ing it thoroughly, and doing drills to address weaknesses that were ascertained from that PT/BR can be really taxing when repeated weekly. I noticed, among myself and regulars on the call, that having the call scheduled every week really exacerbated burnout. Especially since people would try to force themselves to attend as many calls as possible because they felt they'd be missing out and would neglect signs of burnout. I realize that this means there won't be as many calls but this was a decision made after much deliberation. After all, PTs are just a snapshot of your understanding, the bulk of your learning happens in BR and drilling. Of course, people are free to take a PT or two every week if they need to.

Hey fellow 7sagers,

Need some studying advice - not sure if this has already been discussed in the forum previously. If so, I do apologize!

So far, I have sort of carved out this studying plan model:

Phase 1) Finish Content of the Syllabus for RC, LR, LG

Phase 2) Do ALL Problem Sets (Goal: Strengthening my knowledge and foundational skills)

Phase 3) Do Timed Sections from PTS 40 - 60 (Goal: To improve my timing and strategy)

Phase 4) Do All PTS from 60 and above (Goal: Putting everything I have learned altogether & fine tuning my approach)

At the moment - I do not have a set date to write the test, but my prep goal is to help reach about 170. With that stated, I am currently in Phase 2 of my studying and I sort of want to maximize this opportunity. I really want to improve my LG and RC skills during this phase. In LG specifically- being able to recognize patterns & speed improvement. For RC - at least try to complete a passage below 10 minutes & find tuning my annotating skills.

With this in mind - when folks have tried to improve in certain sections, do you try to dedicate a block of studying time for a particular section? To clarify - for example, take two weeks of full LG drilling to improve in LG sections and not studying anything else besides. Simirarily doing the same for RC. Has anyone tried this? Is there any other approach?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Hi all,

I just bought the LSAT Trainer to supplement my studies with 7sage. For context, I started with the Powerscore Bibles, have done 7sage CC, and have taken 6 PTs. Most recent PT was 165 with a 174 BR:

LG -2 (new PR; finished fool-proofing)

LR -11 (higher than usual despite LR drilling in the past, but I neglected LR for a while b/c of FPing )

RC -5 (new PR)

I am wondering what folks think would be the most effective use of the Trainer.

Keep taking a weekly PT and read the trainer in between? Stop PTing and knock-out the Trainer? Some combination of the two with intermittent PT breaks?

Also, for context I work full-time.

Thanks for everyone's input; I really appreciate it! 7sager's rock

i was doing some brainstorming on ideas for my personal statement

and wanted to get the communities take on them.

i studied abroad in the middle east for 3 yrs and the academy i studied in lacked a gym . the closest gym to us was about an hour away and exorbitantly expensive. i am a fitness fanatic and after a year of working out in my room with whatever objects i could use as weights i decided that this has to end. i went to the school and petitioned them to give me a room in the dormitory to use as a gym, after many long arguments, they agreed to give me a small room as long as the school would have no expenses from the gym. I then went out and fundraised money for gym equipment and new flooring. i was able to raise a few thousand dollars. i travelled 2 hrs to closest gym supplier and purchased whatever machinery and weights we could afford and the flooring, they shipped it to the academy. and i spent a week installing the flooring myself and building all the equipment, for the next 2 years i did the maintenance and upkeep of the gym until i came back stateside.

any thoughts on this idea would be much appreciated . thanks for reading!

hey all,

has anyone had experiences/thoughts on applying the negation test to certain RC questions?

So, I feel that for certain "infer" Q's, they're kind of like Must be True questions.

Where there is 1 Must be true AC, and 4 Can be False wrong answer choices.

Thus, for the wrong answer choices, if you negate it, it can be consistent with the passage and true.

On the other hand, for right answer choices, if you negate it, it clearly contradicts the passage.

For example: pretend the passage is just one sentence: The dog is brown.

What can we infer from this passage?

A) The dog is brown

B) The dog can fly

C) Unicorns are blue

D) Dogs are ugly

For Answer choice A, if we negate it (the dog is NOT brown), that directly contradicts the passage, and is thus the right answer choice.

For the other 3 answer choices, they're unsupported, so even if we negate it, it can still be true.

Anyway, does anyone have any feedback/thoughts about this analysis?

I finished the CC in May, have been doing LG and LR drills, as well as taking a mixture of timed and untimed PTs for the past four months. I am writing the November LSAT, how should I structure my study schedule from now until November to maintain my LG score, and to increase my LR and RC scores. Although RC is my worst section, I have been dedicating a lot of time to LR because I think that's where I can gain the most amount of points given the time left. But since I now have more time to study, how should I tackle RC? Drill one section per day? I also struggle to finishing on time. Any suggestions from you will be greatly appreciated!

Hello San Diegans,

I'm looking to start a study group in San Diego where we can BR together either in person or on video chat. I've found BR calls on 7sage to be very helpful and I would love to do something similar with local LSAT students. It would probably be once every two weeks and we can BR full PTs and/or timed sections.

First things first, I understand that the LSAT score is definitely the most important piece of quantitative information on a law school application.

That being said, does anyone have an idea of exactly how much GPA matters? Is it given almost as much consideration as the LSAT, or is it much less significant when compared?

I think that my GPA will be above the median at more schools than my LSAT score, so any advice here is appreciated.

Thanks, and best of luck to everyone applying this cycle.
