Im in a similar situation. I had to confirm my enrollment but I could cancel my registration by notifying admission in writing. Maybe your school has something like that? I would call the admissionsoffice and ask.
I emailed the admissionsoffice to tell them I need to wait for my score, and they are going to proceed as if I’m going there and I’m to let them know if my plans change.
I visited a law school today and asked this question directly to their admissionsoffice. They responded with, "To try to determine who is serious about us. Its basically a way we guard our yield."
@eRetaker I had not thought of the distinction between merit and need-based. I understand if it is only for need-based. I think I’m going to call their admissionsoffice and see. Thanks!
To me, this sounds like a "yes" and therefore you should disclose. However, I am a firm believer in the "when in doubt, call the admissionsoffice" school of thought.
