Just took PT68

Dear 7sage diary,

I just took PT 68. Holy moly, those last two logic games were quite something.

Haven't done any BR for the test yet so don't spoil too much.

Anyways, I remember complaining about my drastic score drop after taking PT 70. My score for this test (68) is now a one point improvement from my highest score; therefore, a drastic improvement from the most recent score of PT 70.

From this I learned that proper sleep and pacing through each question (meaning not rushing through the first 8-9ish questions as if they afford that kind of treatment) is more ideal than before when I would speed through while sleep-deprived. I didn't get to a couple questions each LR section, but I tend to skip those parallel reasoning questions until I have time. If not, I would just guess based on stimulus concluding word strength. So I'll probably work on those too.

It's quite irritating though. I'm currently spending a huge amount of time on full proofing, but this PT threw me curveball LGs. I ended up not getting to finish the final game. I scored like -7 on this LG section. If only I had gotten -1 or 2 on LG and scored one and/or two each on each of the other sections, I'd break through to my target score.

Overall, can't complain. I only just started full proofing 3 weeks ago and this has been my most successful PT. 1 point increase is a blessing tbh. Feels like I'm doing something right.

Hopefully I can get to a 7 point increase by hopefully Dec or Feb.

Sincerely,

Me.

How was the LG experience for you in PT 68?

For those of us in the 140's

Hey! Yes, that's us. The 18 percentile-40 percentile peeps. Let me tell you, THIS SUCKS. Let's get it out there once in for all- THIS SUCKS- but guess what? You can either take it and leave it as is, or regroup and retake, perhaps more than once..or twice. I graduated summa, took on all programs law school related as possible. President of this, senator of that..and then BOOM- LSAT SCORE. I got a 146 and thought that was bad. Sure enough, I got waitlisted/denied to the schools I thought I would get into. Then, I thought to myself it's fine I GOT THIS, and took the September. Well, turns out I magically lowered my score to a 142. I already signed up for the December, since I really just want to score a 150 and I'll be very happy. This is fine, however, the real question lies on what I'll be changing. What's the new game plan? Well, for starters I signed up for 7Sage (powerscore didn't work for me, obviously - but I know people who did amazing so I guess it just depends), I'm taking PT's and I'm putting in the time. Think to yourself, did I do the best I could? Should I try a new study plan/method? I hope I can make the 150's mark for the December, but I can already see admissions committee having a heart attack over my scores. We'll see what happens but just know we're on the same boat. Good luck to you, you're not alone.

Here's a great post at powerscore.com that explains how September's LSAT was more difficult than June's for high scorers, but far easier than June's for average to below average scorers.

Hi All-

I am having trouble skipping questions in LR. I recognize when I am spinning my wheels about half the time but the other half it is when I look up and I have spent three minutes or more on a question that I realize that I need to skip it. Any tips on how to skip questions and when to come back to them? How about when you skip questions, how do you mark it on your bubble sheet?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Learning How to Learn

Hello all -

I recently finished a course on Couresera.com called "Learning How to Learn." I know, it sounds crazy to think that you, a possible future attorney, need to learn how to learn. But I found this course to be EXTREMELY HELPFUL in terms of studying and taking the LSAT. This is a free course and you can finish it in an afternoon. I recommend it.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a in-person tutor in Vancouver, Canada. Anyone know of a good tutor? I'd prefer in person over online. I'm looking to supplement my 7Sage studies, hoping to improve on my last score before the Dec test. Thanks!

GPA question

Hi, i was wondering if i can get some advice. I graduated with a 2.41 GPA which is very low, do I have any chances in law school if I get a high lsat score ? Im not dreaming of going to a very high rated Law school like Harvard or University of Toronto.Any decent medium rated will work for me. Im very confused, please advise me and let me know if you know anyone with a low gpa and high lsat score who got into a law school. thanks

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to thank you all for the great time I've had on 7Sage. I really enjoyed my time here and you all made learning the LSAT sooo much more bearable.

I took the September test and was happy to get 2 points higher than my average PT range before test day. I've been reading some of the forum comments from others who were disappointed with marks, and some who scored a lot lower than their average range from PTs. I'm not big on preaching advice, but if I could offer one parting piece of it, I will just say there is no way I would have performed well on test day if it wasn't for my long time meditation practice and martial arts practice, which have all been training to keep me focused and centered no matter what is happening around me. I've really come to believe that 50% of this test is your skills and competence (which is super important!) and 50% is your psychological mindset, especially on test day. For those re-taking or just starting to study, if you can find some form of meditation practice and start doing it consistently, I don't think you will regret it.

With that I will just say again how grateful I am to have met you all and wish you nothing but the best with your future law careers!

PT

The PT's only have 4 sections, while the LSAT has 5... any suggestions on what to do? I want to take it as a real 5 section test. Thanks!

Possible jury duty

Idk if I’ll actually be a juror just yet but would you guys chance it and go ahead and register? If I am selected do you think I’ll have to be in court on Saturday (12/2), or is that another gamble if I go ahead and register (deadline is Wednesday)? I’m also concerned about getting sufficient study time the week of the test and will it be too much to deal with going? What do you guys think? I’m sure somebody’s gonna say purposely get dismissed but give me something else! Lol

@"Dillon A. Wright" Feel better fast! We will be good kids I promise. I'll even post a positive, motivational post to make up for any discretion this community may have experienced recently!

I took a lot of the advice I got on strategies to shake nerves and to get my timing down. I am slowly working on getting these into my training for the December test and I feel like this is going to help me a lot.

There is something else I'd like help to identify though. That is weaknesses.

Coming into the September test I thought Flaw questions were my biggest weakness. I missed at least 1 flaw question per PT and the 7Sage analytics has the flaw bubble as this massive glaring hole in my life. It's seriously huge! Takes up like...the entire screen!

Okay enough with hyperbole my point stands. So I figured flaw questions and me would never get along.

On the September exam I didn't miss a single flaw question of course! ya know, leave it to the real deal to break all trends you think you have noticed. I also didn't miss a single type of the same question! I missed everything from MSS to Disagree to Weaken to MBT!

So it's obvious to me that the September test really was shaken nerves, but that I still have some weaknesses that I'm not identifying correctly. What can I do to help spot these weaknesses? I'm under the impression that confidence drills will help to weed out some problem areas so I will continue with those, but is there any other way I can figure out where the weak spots are?

Ugh - so I finally got in touch with a former boss and asked him for a letter of recommendation. He and I had a very good working relationship. I finally heard from him and he said he would love to help me out! I was so happy because I really looked up to him and think he is brilliant. Well, the next day he emails me asking me to "take a stab" at writing the letter and he will add more to it. I'm dismayed now. Has anyone done this or have any form letters that I can start with?

After failing on the Sep test. (I blacked out on the first section and scored the worst I ever have - so badly I don't even want to say)

I am trying to now get back into the right mindset. I'm sitting here in the library and just having a hard time getting motivated. I am so afraid that I will black out again during the dec/feb/or june test and all of my hard work will be for nothing. I absolutely bombed one LR section not because I didn't know it but because of my anxiety.

I am starting meditation and getting back into yoga hoping this helps.

Just looking for some support or anyone feeling similarly right now. Thanks!

Small Fish in a Big Pond

I was wondering if anyone is aware of the outcomes of individuals who study for very long periods of time (Total Hours) for the LSAT and performance in law school? For example, say the average LSAT study duration is 150 hours for a certain lSAT score and you study for 450 hours for the same score, are you not putting yourself into a precarious situation in that it took you three times as long to reach that score? I have no proof, but I would assume, if one can learn the LSAT more easily than others than their ability to perform in law school will be better. I'm not sure its a good idea to prepare extensively for an exam to only be bludgeoned over the head at school that you maybe should not have attended. What are your thoughts?

Hi. I am working on my final project to complete my degree and I need some minority applicants to answer this survey. PLEASE!! It is short and won't take long and it will help me graduate :) Please take a few minutes now to answer. Thank you in advance.

  • Why did you decide to apply to law school?
  • Were there any obstacles that you had to overcome in the application process, or prior to application?
  • How did you overcome those obstacles?
  • Do you have suggestions on how to eliminate those obstacles for future law school applicants?
  • Is there anything else that you think would be helpful to know?
  • Thanks again!

I just got my score back and its not pretty. I am aiming to take June 2018, since I need like 20 points improvement to have a shot at any Top law schools. I used a bunch of top company materials like (Testmasters, Powerscore, etc) but I don't think they have worked for me/I work at a huge law firm so it was a struggle to be able to leave work on time to study. : ( I am wondering if I should start studying all over with 7Sage or go back over the old books and materials? I don't want to waste time/money again on huge prep courses. I also need someone there to possibly ask questions which I didn't really have before, so is there like an office hours? or online skype tutor? Sorry for the long post.

Although it is common knowledge that lawyers who work for city or federal government are paid relatively less compared to BigLaw, I noticed that there are some cities in California that pay their attournies handsomely. For example, the assistant City attourney in Santa Monica cleared about 300k in salary. Would these sort of jobs be limited to those who went Top 14 law schools?

I plan to start studying again for the December exam tomorrow, and I wanted to know if the first thing I should be doing is Blind Reviewing the September 2017 exam to see what problem areas I have. Would this be ok even if I plan to take that exam as a preptest? Should I just keep a log of the question types I missed rather than actually going through and reviewing?

First - I appreciate all of the awesome uplifting posts about continuing on with re-testing and shooting for the best. I'm def there.

But there is a little, bitty part of me that wonders when will enough be enough. I don't think I'm there yet but yesterday made me think twice. You see, I like to volunteer a lot and I like to participate in my son's school activities. Yesterday morning I volunteered at my church and afterward I met my son at his grammar school for his walk-a-thon. Both of these events took all morning and by the time I got home I was wiped but I felt so satisfied. I didn't even want to study or look at anything LSAT related. And I thought... if I continue with LSAT prep and get into law school I won't have time for my volunteer work or take time off for my son's school activities. When I graduate law school and get a full-time job I def won't be volunteering or going to my son's school. And, well, that got me kinda sad.

I want both - an awesome legal career (and more $$$ hopefully) and the freedom to continue my volunteer work and be able to attend my children's school activities (next year I will have a second kid in school!). I know that it won't be possible to do both, well, maybe once in a while but I doubt too much. So, I'm wondering if anyone has had these kind of thoughts and if there are any former 7Sagers lurking who just ended it all for family/quality time. Would love to hear other stories and your thoughts. Thanks.

    Score Report

I was under the impression that my score Report would tell me which questions I got wrong or at least have individual scores for the sections. Was I wrong?

    A fourth take?

Hey guys. So I just got my score, hit a 169 I'm pissed I missed one extra question and a 170 :/ but also ecstatic. My scores have been a 157, 159, 169. My GPA is 3.25.

I want in at UCI, which I think I'm golden for. I also want USC which I'm sure I have a higher chance of not getting accepted...right? Is USC an option at this point?

    Thanks
