I have been doing sections every day (Reasoning, Comprehension, and Games) and getting around a -2 to -5. Granted, many of those sections are repeat sections (sections I have done before but practiced again) but I felt fairly confident in my scores and ability. Today, I took PT 73, and I got a -7 on Comprehension, -6 on Games, and -7 on Reasoning. I cannot believe this. I had felt like that I was performing well on the test. What happened? What can I do to prevent this from happening again?

I feel very confused and frustrated that my individual practice sections are not translating to the practice tests.

I was conditionally approved for an LSAC fee waiver, sent all the documents 2 weeks ago....now they want a tax transcript from the IRS. I don't want to wait anymore - what is the fastest way to withdraw the fee waiver request so my account is not on hold anymore??

So for questions like question 11 on PT 71(Game 2) where the question is If _____ happens then for how many of the other "pieces" is their position fully determined do you count pieces that are established by a general rule? I watched the video explanation and J.Y. counted it but he didn't give it any comment. I usually do but for some reason I did not on this game. Basically if the initial rules say "X" must be here and then a question stimulus says if "Y" is in this spot, for how many of the other pieces is their position determined you count "X" even though it was already established before the question added a new piece of information? The piece in question here is "G" for this game.

Hi everyone. I'm writing to you all to get some advice and guidance about my dilemma (and hopefully ease my nerves). So here's my situation. I work full-time and been out of school since 2007, I started studying back in June with Powerscore's program (I know, I know, please don't judge) and originally planned to take October LSAT. I had surgery at the end of July and was out of the studying game for several weeks, which set me back a lot. My boyfriend and I talked, weighed my pros and cons, and we both decided it was best to push my test back to December to get me more time to study. We found 7Sage and I began their starter package in September. My scores haven't been great, mid-140s PT and low160s BR, which is obviously no where near my target score (165+). My strengths are LG and RC, but I'm absolutely horrible at LR, during timed and BR. After each BR, I feel I know the information, understand it, but when I take another PT, I choke. I've never been a good standardized test taker, so I knew going into this I had a big challenge to overcome. I know progress takes a while, but here we are 3 weeks to December's test and my PTs are bad. My boyfriend thinks I should take December's test as planned, see what score I get and use it as a trial run so I'm prepared when I take it in June 2016. My concerns with his suggestion is I waste my first test, in case I need to retake it in October 2016 (after June 2016 test) and secondly, I'll have to explain to all my schools why I scored so badly the first go around, if I score well on the June 2016 test. So here's my question, should I cancel my December test or not? At this point I know I need more time to study and go over the material again, luckily I haven't exhausted all my PT, 50-75 left. I definitely underestimated how much time I needed to study. With working M-F 8-5, I cram in about 4 hours each evening and put in another 6-8 each day on Saturday and Sunday, so I know I'm overloading myself and not allowing the information to absorb. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and comments about my situation and welcome any advice you send my way. Thank you.

Hi guys! Just a quick question, as I am personally struggling with making the decision of taking Dec exam or postpone till June. As the whole world tells you to "just take it," idk if i "just" wanna take it...

Lets say I score a 160-162 this dec (no where near my goal)

Retake in June, and get in the upper 160s, say 167-169 range.

Would the admissions be dubious about such a jump? Is that something I have to explain or is that a given that I worked my butt off? Idk, there seems to be a lot of talk about not wanting to "scar" your records with a lower score, vs getting a much higher one later...

Any thoughts?

thanks guys :)

PT48 and on

Hey guys,

For a while now I have been working through the earlier PT's 21-38, concentrating on accuracy and applying the proper methodology to the questions. I recently discovered that I was unable to purchase PT's 39-48 because they are unavailable in the form of the 10 PT's. I decided to purchase PT's 48, 49, 50, 51 and I already have 52-75. I sat down to do timed sections with PT 48 and everything just seems way different from the PT's I have been practicing with; Questions are asked different, and the games in this test were weird, and I could not identify what type of games they were. Is it like this for all the newer tests and it is just something which I need to get familiar with, or is this test just weird? When I took the 07 PT the games were not this weird, so I am not sure what is going on.

So I took the LSAT in October and underperformed terribly, let's say in the 145-150 range, and I plan on retaking the test in December. On my PT's, I'm still not at where I want to be but I don't really want to, nor have the option to, really wait another full cycle before applying.

Also, I was an engineering major at UCI and graduated with a not so stellar GPA. However, at my current job, I'm gaining lots of experience--ranging from project management to quality control, another neat thing is I'm filing for a trademark to get my company's name and logo registered on the USPTO website << this is fantastic because I want to go to law school for Intellectual Property.

Now my question is, given my relatively lower gpa and not so stellar LSAT score (hoping to crush it this time around but knowing the LSAT, ya know...), what would you guys say are my chances of getting into a school with a pretty solid IP program?

Questions, comments, advice highly appreciated. :)

UPDATE: Site and app are back up again! Luckily everything went smoothly, so the total downtime was less than an hour :)

We are moving the site to new servers very soon on Thursday, November 19. This will affect both the site and the App.

We are taking the site down starting at 11:30pm Eastern (8:30pm Pacific) time. We hope to have the site back up within a few hours, but it may take longer, so please expect it to be down until the next morning.:(

The good news is: based on our testing, the site should be faster after the move :)

Sorry for the inconvenience during the move!

If you are still unable to access the site the next morning (Friday, November 20), please clear your DNS Cache (https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/CKB/How+To+Clear+Your+DNS+Cache). If that doesn't help, please send us an email.

US News vs Above The Law

Seems to me that these two websites are the most popular as far as law school research and rankings. I'm finding in several cases that they don't always jive with each other though.

I'm scoring 160s on my PTs, take LSAT in Dec, so I'm not looking at T14. So, it doesn't matter to me that Yale is US News #1 and ATL #6.... What does concern me is that USC (my top prospect) is US News #20 and does not even make the ATL Top 50... and Arizona State (2nd favorite, 2nd highest ranked on my app list) is US News #26 and ATL ~36ish.

Which is the most reliable? Is there a third reliable site I don't know of? How heavily should I concern myself with these rankings/school prestige?

As always, I thank you all in advance for your insights.

I am wondering if the word "then" introduces a necessary condition and/or the conclusion to premise(s); and if "then" is only pertinent to conditional statements, or to cause and effect statements, as well. Of note, I am wondering this because the word "then" seems to function similarly to words that I know introduce necessary conditions and conclusions -- such as, "requires" or "must" (for necessary conditions); and "therefore" or "thus" (for conclusions) -- but I do not see "then" on any official list of indicator words that introduce necessary conditions or conclusions.

Thank you!

Michael

So this is a slight spin off of a different post reading RC. On Sunday I had a huge score drop from my high of 162 back down to 150. My clean copy BR was 176.

The break down was -7/-8 on LR -15 on LG and -14 on RC. LG I completely understood the score drop, a couple of bi-conditionals I wasn't familiar with and caused me to freeze. I BR and I feel fairly confident that if I see these issues again I will know what to do.

However, this is actually reflective of an overall trend I am seeing here. I've seen my LR improve significantly and I am fairly consistent w/ -7/8 and this was certainly and LG outlier and I'm usually seeing -3 or so. But I have just not seen RC improve, and it's stayed roughly -10 since day one. My diagnostic had me at -8 which would have put me at pretty decent shape for test day in Dec.

So far it's been either accuracy or speed. If I go for accuracy, I'm down -13/14. If I'm going for speed I've seen -10. As the PT have progressed I feel like both have steadily gotten worse and I can't tell whether the sections are just actually more difficult or my strategy is getting more and more off-base. Any ideas how to shore this up in the next couple of weeks?

Inferences questions POV

For MSS/must be true questions on RC that don't have a point of view in the question stem, can we assume that they are looking for what the author thinks? Ex:what is most strongly supported? What can be inferred from the passage?

JD for Professorship?

Hi 7Sage community,

I had a non-LSAT related question I was hoping to get advice in. As I have been thinking about possible job placements after law school and continue to get experience at my firm, I am realizing I am not very passionate about becoming an attorney. I am interested in law but I am much more interested in the scholarly side of it and the theory behind it than in the practice of it. Most of the attorney I work with are not very happy people but more importantly I do not relish the idea of being stuck in front of a computer 65-80 hours a week drafting motions (most likely for not very good people or corporations). I have always wanted to end my career teaching at a college or university no matter what I decided to study but the more I think about it, the more that is actually all I want to do.

So I was wonder what people think about a JD for an academic career? I know most professors do not have a JD but I don't know if this is because most JDs don't want to teach or because most universities and colleges don't want JDs teaching? I would love to teach law but could also enjoy teaching American politics for example and am trying to decide whether law school is right for me now.

Part of my dilemma exist because I believe I would enjoy the study of law and teaching it as I enjoy reading law journals just for fun (though partially to improve RC). But part of my dilemma might also be coming from having invest so much time, energy, and money into the LSAT and the law school application process. I am scoring around a 167 on my PTs now and am only 8 PTs in so I have a lot of room for improvement and can likely get into a T-14 if I push a little more. On the other hand I have no idea how I would do on the GRE or what my chances are of getting into a top Ph.D. program. But I don't want to continue down this path if it is not the best way to realize my career goals. So that is why I am asking for advice. Is a JD a good option for pursuing a career in academia? Especially if I have better chances of attending an elite law school than an elite Ph.D. program (maybe)? Or should I just cut my losses in the law school admissions process and try to get into a Ph.D. program?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!!!!

Sincerely,

Confused Post-grad

Has anyone else really had trouble with finding certain PT questions on the discussion board? I'll have a specific question, but I'll try searching it via the suggested format, just the PT, the question, etc. and more times than not nothing comes up, even though I KNOW THERE ARE QUESTIONS ABOUT PT 75 ON HERE. It seems very impractical. I generally will have to post my own discussion about it, and I hate to do that if there is a perfectly good explanation out there, already written by someone, and then have someone waste their time re-explaining it.It just doesn't seem to be a good format.

Am I missing something? I think it would be a really great addition to have an area where the specific PT's are discussed, and then the questions/sections pre-listed, similar to Manhattan Prep maybe, but obviously with a 7Sage spin. I really hate having to go to another website with less-than-stellar explanations when the community here is filled with brilliant minds and 7Sagers... I love this community and consider myself quite loyal. Just my two cents. What does anyone else think?

(P.S. can anyone supply a link to PT 75.1.11?)

Happy Wednesday everyone, hope studying is rollling along!

Hi guys,

When you come across a group 3 and group 4 indicator in the same sentence ("cannot" and "unless"), which rule do you use? e.g. the group 3 or group 4 rule. Basically, how do I react to multiple indicators from multiple groups in the same sentence?

I can't find the answer in my notes. I think it is somewhere in the core c. I don't know where.

Thanks.

Hey, does anyone know if any of the T-14 law schools place special emphasis on targeted letters of recommendation?

In my knowledge Stanford Law School website does mention " Please be aware of the high value Stanford places on school-specific letters of recommendation", are there any others?

Translating "Results In"

The other day, I came across a question in a practice test that used the phrase "results in," and I really struggled with the question because I wasn't sure how to translate that into "lawgic," as J.Y. calls it, or if it even could be translated. I don't remember what PT is was exactly, although I know it was somewhere between PT 65 and 68, and it dealt with bees. The sentence in question said something along the line of "Excellent pollination requires the presence of bees and results in a better harvest of fruits and vegetables," or something along those lines.

I know the first half translates to EP ---> PB, but is there a way to translate "results in?" Would you say EP ---> BF&V because if you have excellent pollination, then you know you'll have better fruits and vegetables, or would you write it as BF&V ---> EP because if you're garden produced better fruits and vegetables, then you know that you had excellent pollination?
