108 posts in the last 30 days

After 2 days of torture over this early score announcement shenanigans, I finally got the email and happy to see a 174 on the December test. I started this journey at the end of July, which was a really dark time of my life being butted out by my previous company when I was in my 1st trimester of pregnancy. But I’m so glad that I found this 7Sage community and have stuck with all the courses and PTs. I started out with a untimed 158 on the 07June test, and am so happy to see my efforts paying off! Just want to give a big shout out to JY and the amazing fellows on the site that’s been giving me a lot of encouragement and discussions throughout the time. And to those who just started, wish you all the best, and trust me, as long as you spend the time and follow JY’s teaching, you really can do this!

Happy holidays everyone!

:warning: **This post contains spoilers to PT80.S4.Q15** :warning:

I had trouble parsing out the stimulus of PT80.S4.Q15 (which is supposed to be an easy MSS question) because I did not understand what "... than otherwise would be" was referring to at first.

I was advised that I should make a post to practice using "otherwise" as appeared in the stimulus.

During this holiday season, I gained more weight than I otherwise would, since studying for the LSAT stressed me out.

The increase in my LSAT score is more than it otherwise would be, since I have the best LSAT teacher.

I am less worried about the law school application process than I otherwise would be, since I have the 7Sage Admission Course.

I need to come up with more, but I can't seem to get my mind off of LSAT/law school apps.

Happy holidays, everyone! ☃️

PT.57.S1.G4

Hey, guys. Why is there talk of three M here when the rules say exactly two M? JY mentions three M and others also mentioned in the comments section. What am I missing here? Three M was never an option for me becatse of that rule.

Dear 7Sagers,

Your contributions to my LSAT prep has made a positive impact in my life.

Thanks to your advice and support, I was able to increase my score by 15 points, from my diagnostic test to the December exam.

This will open doors for me that I didn't think I would have for my public interest career.

If you happen to attend the same UC school as I, I look forward to taking classes with you.

Y'all rock. :)

Torn on what to do

Hey fellow 7Sagers,

If your like me (and it seems like a lot are) and got less than your average score, please dont feel like your alone. I scored almost 4 points lower than my usual average, and missed my goal score by 3 points. I am not sure what to do. I did get 5 points higher than my last LSAT (2016 v. 2017) but I am not sure if I should take it a 3rd time or let it be. I am below the 25% at my target school, and my GPA is in the middle of the 25% and median. So I am not sure if I should retest or not. The LAST thing I want is for a school to average my scores-that would be a nightmare. I have a strong personal statement and I fill so many diversity boxes that I know I am a strong applicant. I just dont know if I should retest or not. Can I submit applications without a full commitment to retesting? If I get accepted, there is no way in hell I want to retest. Advice?

Merry Christmas either way.

Score stress, help

I scored 163, a few points below my PT average. I’m not devastated but definitely not thrilled either. I’m wanting to apply for schools like university of Minnesota and Boston college, maybe University of Washington in Seattle. Do I have a good shot? Should I lower my expectations ?

Take a fifth time?

I have taken the LSAT 4 times so far (168,165,169 and Cancellation). I know that these are not bad scores, but as an international student with no reportable GPA, I might need a better score to get into T14. I have alreay submitted almost all applications and I wonder how badly law schools will look at fifth take?

Before the December LSAT(which I cancelled), I normally score low-170 and RC is my weakest section.

If I take the Feb LSAT, would law schools hold my application automatically?

I know that taking the LSAT five times is so unconventional, so I ask for the advice from 7 sagers.

Hey guys! Here's the official December LSAT Discussion Thread. Please keep all discussions of the December 2017 LSAT here!

Here's some ground rules, taken from my usual sticky:

We know that everyone will be excited to discuss what was on the Dec. '17 LSAT, but mentioning specifics about the test (e.g., "I got B for question 6" or "the 3rd LG was sequencing") can get both us and you in a lot of trouble with LSAC. Saying that the test was hard/easy without going into detail is okay, but anything more specific is not okay. LSAC monitors this forum.

If you're unsure what may be too specific, feel free to PM me with what you'd like to post.

The only exception is you can say which sections were real or experimental. For example, the LG with "flowers" was experimental. That's okay.

TL;DR: PLEASE don't talk specifics about December's LSAT!

Here's where you can see the current Real/Experimental Sections:

https://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/13991/december-2017-lsat-real-experimental-sections-keywords

Have fun discussing!

Recording RC

Hey if you record yourself doing an RC section how do you go about reviewing it afterwards? What’s your purpose and what are you specifically looking for. Thanks!

Negation Question

Hello,

I have a general question about negating statements that is bothering me as I'm working through necessary assumption questions! My question is, do we negate BOTH "not" elements in a statement in order to properly negate it, or just one? For example:

"Lawrence did not get the idea in the passages in questions or did not get their formulations originally from Hartley"

To negate, do we take away both of the "nots" or just one?

Another example:

"Those who do not know a language cannot hear the way speech in that language actually sounds"

To negate, do we say "Those who do know a language cannot hear the way speech in that language actually sounds" or do we say "Those who do know a language can hear the way speech in that language actually sounds"?

Thanks and I hope this makes sense!

Hi,

Just wondering if people on here know any games similar to games 2/3 that were on the December LSAT.

Game #2 was a conditional sequencing game.

Game #3 was a weird in/out game that I found challenging, even though I usually have don't have troubles with them.

Hello 7sage admin,

Could you guys put a target time on the RC passages? In the LGs, the target time is helpful, and I think that a target time for the RC passages would be super helpful, especially since the timing in RC feels much more unpredictable than the other sections. Obviously, everyone's going to be a little different based on background etc, but a ballpark figure would be awesome. Really loving the curriculum, keep up the good work!

Horrible Testing Conditions

I'm not sure if anyone else took the December LSAT at Long Beach Convention Center.

Everyone was in line checking in around 8 a.m., and they only had 3 people to check people in. They also put 400 of us in one ballroom, so people that checked in earlier were in for a treat. It took them 3 hours to check everyone in. Yes, our test did not even start until 11 a.m.

In the time that this center checked people in, the ones who were early were not able to drink water nor use the restroom. By 11 a.m. is when our first portion should be over! Everyone was annoyed due to the lack of the test center's preparedness. The proctor did not have a mic, so she also had to walk up and down the aisle to repeat the rules over 10x.

It doesn't end there. As the proctor was finishing up the rules, a girl kept raising her hand. She notified the proctor and other staff that she really needed to use the restroom. They would not allow her to go, and they haven't even distributed tests out yet. The poor girl tried to run past the staff, and they blocked her way. She ultimately peed her pants in front of 400 people.

In addition to that incident, there was a Miss California USA Pageant and Herbalife Employee Ceremony happening at the same time that we started our test. Loud music, bands playing, cheering, and people announcing employee of the month echoed throughout the room. It was as if our conditions were not already horrible.

I'm not one to complain, but honestly that day I became so detached from taking the test (as were many others). I was confident in my abilities, but the environment and unpreparedness took its toll on everyone. By the time we finished the first portion, it was 1:30 p.m. They didn't even let us out until 2 p.m. because they couldn't manage to count 400 tests. Also 400 people were dying to use the restroom. By the time we got to break, I was lucky enough to sit by the door, run out, and get to the restroom. When I finished, I saw the huge lines that most likely did not allow everyone to use it in the break time allotted. After we were all done, it was 4 p.m. 7 HOURS. The test center drained us more than the test did.

I know that many of us have complained to LSAC, and have no idea what LSAC will even do for us. February 2018 LSAT is not much of an option for me since most of the schools I am applying to do not accept February LSAT. I guess what I'd like to ask is whether it is worth writing an addendum about? I plan to turn in my applications before Friday, but feel that our circumstances were very unfair.

You would think that $180/person and 400 people would give them enough funds to provide adequate staff and testing conditions.

Hello!

I've been studying on and off the last few years for the LSAT, and I am seriously committing the last few weeks before the February LSAT to study (yes, I know it is not recommended). Is there anyone else in the same or similar situation as I am?

Hi everyone!

Can someone please help me with this question. I can't understand why C is wrong at all. I got it down to A and C and ended up picking C.

cant C be correct because if drinking one glass doesn't cause deficiency in vitamin D, that means there would be enough calcium absorbed by an aging persons body for them to lower their blood pressure.

thoughts?

Can someone explain to me how A is right. I understood the argument to be a generalization because it goes from talking about lowering dairy food intake to avoid heart diseases to talking about having good health in general

I understand why A is right, but is my way of thinking about the stimulas wrong?
