Don't skip the foundations!!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share how important the foundations unit is. When I first started studying about a year(ish) ago, I looked over the foundations unit thinking how it all was just common sense. The conditional logic section seemed so unimportant and even the grammar unit felt pointless. So... I skipped it. BUT, I can guarantee you that it's not pointless. Ever since I really dived into the foundations unit and started taking it seriously, I'm getting way more questions right. I'm getting the questions right which I used to get wrong all the time!!!

I guess this is all just to say that don't skip the foundations.

I know it might seem like a waste of time and we feel like our time would be better spent learning the question types, but everything which is in the foundations unit builds up to what we need in order to succeed in the LR and RC sections. So pleaseee, don't skip this and don't make the same mistake I did.

omg I did this question a while ago (like last year) and remember getting it wrong and never understanding it. I'm so happy I got this right with 2 seconds to spare lol

@MarieChavis It's "negate sufficient". We take one part, negate it, and put it in the sufficient condition. The second will be in the necessary condition, but don't negate this part, leave it as it is.

So, I'm gonna negate the first part and the translation becomes "Profits will not increase" = profits will increase

Profits will increase --> congestion decreased

Hope this helps!

Is A wrong because Skylar doesn't really talk about mental maturity? Skylar just talks about mental activity which is different from mental maturity, right?

@Carolinehink1 This is a level one difficulty. If you click on "show question" on top (near the comments tab) and then go to analytics, it will show you. I'm using a mac and that's how it shows up for me. Hope this helps!

Are the words "tend to" and "likely" correlation words? In other words, do they imply correlation rather than causation?

used to get conditional questions wrong all the time, but these lessons have helped so much!! Wish I didn't ignore them the first time around

I can't seem to understand the difference between negating "all" statements and negating conditional statements. Isn't All A are B (A->B) logically equivalent to If A then B (A-> B)?

Where would we use this idea of negating "all"? Like what question type on the lsat?

can we equate "overwhelming majority" to "most"?

So I think this is really helpful for sufficient assumption questions (if you don't know, this is a question type on the LSAT). So basically, the premises are A and the conclusion is B. The only way to get to B is to find the missing rule, which would be A -> B.

@MRod Right, I'm confused about this also. I would think that both would have to be adopted because of the word "and". The word "Or" would mean that either one can happen, it doesn't need to be both.

For anyone who thinks the foundation lessons are too easy or straightforward, please don't skip them. During my first LSAT, I skipped them because I thought everything was straightforward and got this question wrong. This time around, I'm going through the foundations in depth and got this right (just went four seconds over the time limit)

Why is it not "The attempts to sabotage will backfire?"

@Summy ohh right. I think I confused them. If I recall correctly, "But, however, yet" are indicator words for when we are switching over from the context to the argument.

So is "but, however, yet" also a type of concession?

I got this right but is this thinking method accurate: so I chose E because it said the government must place significant restrictions and if it places significant restrictions then it won't be able to sell the entity for the highest price it can command on the open market.

So essentially, placing restrictions means that it's not available to the open market which violates one of the conditions.

Just was wondering if this is an accurate way to think about this?

Anyone know what kind of flaw question this would fall under if I'm referring to the "Argument Flaw Cheat Sheet" ?

@OverheadHopefulStructure I think so! There is a video on Kevin Lin's YouTube channel where he talks about this.
