Strategy for Post CC

Hello everyone,

This is my last week of the CC before the PT's start and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I am still struggling with games and also want to utilize my copy of LSAT Trainer which I have not started. I am hoping to take the September LSAT and am shooting for around a 170 with my diagnostic being a 158.

With this being the case, should I delay PT'ing while I foolproof games from 1-35/read the Trainer? Or should I try and PT while foolproofing the games and reading the Trainer? To make a lot of questions short, what order do you think I should pursue and how much time should I dedicate to each?

Thanks!

Performance Anxiety

I have been reading horror stories of people scoring like -7 points from their average PT scores before the test. I am content with my PT average and my scores have been very consistent, but I'm terrified by these stories of people underperforming significantly on test day. Is this even a common thing, to have your PT average that radically different than your LSAT score???

Completing the Core Curriculum

Hi all,

After three and a half months of studying, primarily using the PowerScore Bibles, I've decided to withdraw from the June exam and study for another few months. As I've already studied many of the concepts covered in the CC, and have completed roughly twenty PTs, I'm wondering how you'd suggest moving through the CC. I know which question types I need to improve on, but I also don't want to cut corners, skipping essential parts of the CC (I find that JY's explanations are infinitely more nuanced than any of the books I've read). Would you suggest that I start from square one and move through the curriculum in order? I'm concerned about going out of order as I know that each concept builds upon the strong foundation of another, but I also don't want to waste time re-learning what I'm comfortable doing. Thanks, in advance!

Resume GPA Question

Hi friends!

I'm revamping my resume this morning to send to someone who's agreed to write me a recommendation. Did y'all use the GPA you graduated with, or the one that LSAC calculated for you? My LSAC GPA pushed me into a different percentile, so obviously this matters for admissions, but it feels a little dishonest to put the higher number on my resume. Thoughts? Thanks!

I have found a pattern of question I continuously get wrong. I think I know why I get it wrong too. In part it's not having a clear enough understanding of exactly which flaw I am seeing, but the other part is I can not understand what the heck the answer choices mean. An example of this question type is 49.2.18 (test, section, question).

The answer choices say thing like;

E.) Takes for granted that a phenomenon that can best be understood as having certain properties can best be understood only through reasoning that shares those properties. ---------- What did the test just say to me? Should I be offended? Is it insulting my mom?

Or

C.) Fails to distinguish adequately between the characteristics of a phenomenon as a whole and those of the deliberately isolated parts of that phenomenon. ---------- I think it's saying "Doesn't show the difference between the whole and the parts" but I am not sure.

These answer choices appear on every test, in one convoluted way or another, and each time I trip fall, pick a bubble and move on.

Advice for unpacking these answer choices, and maybe to addressing flaws better?

Foolproofing

Hi, i was wondering if, after watching the video explanation, you still finish after the suggested amount of time should one try again the same day? Or wait till another day?

P.s. i fool proof by trying the game and then watching JY and then attempting it again right after. And then again the next day and then the next week

ADD and test day?

Hello all. I've been prescribed adderall for a while now and I'm fully aware of its effects. I've studied for the LSAT with and without adderall where I'm doing much much better ON it.

I was wondering if I should also take one on the test. Or if it would be necessary.

I don't condone it's use without a need...and this is not what my question is about. I'd advise anyone who hasn't done it to definitely notttt take it on test day as I guarantee you'll royally screw yourself over.

On adderall I have no issues with timing and accuracy. I finish sections with 5 minutes left over and I'm comfortable with all the material. Without adderall, the best I can get to finishing is by rushing and skipping. I don't absorb information so readily and I miss words because I don't concentrate enough.

My preptests are great on adderall I just worry that it might not be the same test day.

I'm generally great with stimulants like coffee and energy drinks and increased stimulation never leads me to spaz out.

Help! June LSAT!

Hey guys,

So my problem is the my test is next week and I have been devoting so much time to LR, that I am kind of still slipping up in LG. I have the fundamentals so I think, but I'm still bombing the LG. I have the powerscore books and I'm trying to Drill. While there isn't that many questions in the Starter to do on 7sage to help me practice I'm lost. Im not pushing my test back! I think I'm getting overwhelmed and btw i already at Test my goal is pretty low but it will get me into school. Judge or me or not but all I need is about half the test right. How do I get back on top of LG. I don't know where I'm slipping. Any advice for LG or overall tactics??

Hey guys! If you're taking the June LSAT and your account is inconveniently set to expire a few days before the test date, just email me (dillon@7sage.com) and I'll extend your account for free through the June test. (Make sure you include your 7Sage email!)

I can guarantee you that my inbox will fill up with these, so give me time to reply to them all. If your account expires by the time I get to your email, don't worry, I'll reactivate it for you. :)

For those of you who are expiring after, good luck on the LSAT! We here at 7Sage are rooting for you.

LR question help?

Hey guys!

I was wondering if anyone could help clarify this tough Weaken question for me. Here's the link to the question: https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-28-section-3-question-17/

I though (C) was positing an alternative explanation for the phenomenon (the significant salary gap between employers): decreased readership. I didn't feel good choosing this AC because the conclusion was that lower wages were justified, and (C) doesn't really touch on that. But, I just thought (B) was making too far of a jump. Thoughts?

Hello! Does anyone know easy quantitative way for finding maximum/minimum number of remaining events that could occur when certain variables are selected in In/Out game?

For example, lets say there are 10 variables in total: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J.

Rules:

A -> /B

If B does not occur, then either H or I but not both occur

D can only come with one other variable

D and E can't come together

H -> E + F

Question: Suppose that C and E both occur. What is the maximum AND minimum number of remaining events that could occur?

THANK YOU in advance :D

NYC study partner(s) hmu ;)

U up?

Hi! I'm looking for a BR partner in the city/brooklyn for the September 2017 exam. I'm hoping for 170+ so while somebody with similar aspirations would be great, it's not totally necessary. Ideally we would meet on Sundays or early mornings on weekdays (6-8AM). Lemme know if you're down!!

Separation principle?

The definition is "if two variables cannot be next to one another, there must be at least one space separating them", and the equation is Total slots – # w/i variable = # empty slots between the variables.

Can any body give a full explanation on what separation principle is? I don't get what w/i variable represents... Thanks in advance!

I don't know if "besides' meaning except for or including, which are the opposite meanings. For example, for PT52, the conclusion says 'So legislators who value democracy should not propose any law inhibiting behavior that is not harmful to anyone besides the person engaging in it." Does it mean to include the person or to exclude the person? Thank you for the help!!

Honing LR Skills

Hi everyone,

I'm studying for the September LSAT, and am currently isolating parts of LR that I find especially difficult. I was wondering how you'd suggest most effectively going about drilling the fundamentals when it comes to question types you're struggling with? Do you, for example, re-watch core curriculum videos, re-acquaint yourself with fundamental concepts, and pluck the specific question type from practice tests to drill? Or something else entirely? I find that a great majority of the fundamentals make sense to me theoretically, and certain questions click right away when I apply my strategies, but there are certain questions that, no matter how long I drill the fundamentals, I can't seem to 'get' the answer (get it right away, or get it without first consulting the answer and working backwards from there). Often, I've noticed that the topic of the stimulus correlates with my anxiety about completing the question and my understanding of the argument. Of course, an unwelcome topic shouldn't impede my analysis of an argument, but it often does.

Any thoughts on how to re-learn question types or overcome topic anxiety? Thanks so much!

Hey everyone!

I'm pretty confused about this question. Could anyone speak more on why (C) is incorrect? I chose it because I thought it was blocking out an alternative cause to the cited change in attitude: philosophers spreading their ideas to the public.

Also, how exactly does (A) strengthen Kim's conclusion? Couldn't really follow what JY was saying!

Here's the link to the question! https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-23-section-2-question-14/

Thank you!

Drilling RC

Was wondering how people drill RC with the memory method. How many passages at a time? How often? Timed or untimed? Any input would be appreciated.
