I took a practice LSAT today and scored a 155. I was 11/23 on logic games which drug me down. My goal score is 160-162. I have just recently started to reengage in logic game improvement. What is a realistic raw score goal to get on Logic games before the June test?

I've been really depressed not getting difficult 4-5 questions on LR (many times 3 too). This hurts my overall score so much that I've been consistently getting low 150. I thought I knew how to distinguish question types, how to diagram, and how to approach different types of questions. Now I'm considering hiring a tutor to help me. I wanted to hear what other people have done to overcome...

I know practice is so important but no matter how much I review. I just keep making mistakes and getting everything wrong.

Hey all! Just thought it would be nice to create a discussion to share any inspiring thoughts/words/advice that helped you before your LSAT or that is currently helping you now-- since today is the day before the February sitting!

I'll start... I've been really trying to focus on all the progress that I've made. It's pretty amazing to me to see what I was doing when I started studying and what I'm capable of now. We should all DEFINITELY be proud of how much we've progressed, how much we've worked, and how far we've come. Going into the test tomorrow is just a chance to show off all of the amazing work we've done!

Hey all,

I just did LG Game #2 from PT 09, and in the game there are 2 biconditional rules and 2 conditional rules.

J (-) /K

N (-) /P

N -> L

Q -> K

JY does not combine the biconditional rules with the conditional rules, and instead just splits the GB based on the biconditionals.

Should we never combine biconditional rules with other rules?

Would appreciate any feedback/advice. Thanks so much! :)

Hey everyone!

Long time lurker :)

I know everyone's strategy is different for RC, but I was wondering if we're supposed to (or if high scorers actually do) - write low resolution summaries after each paragraph when they're doing RC on the real test or even PT's?

I see JY actually writing like a word or two next to each paragraph in the more recent RC videos, and was wondering if we should also do the same -- like literally write a word or two per paragraph -- for the real test. or if we should just mentally visualize the low resolution summary.

Thanks!

I still have a long way to go with my LSAT studies and we all know how frustrating this test can be at times. For this reason, I think its all the more important to celebrate the small victories, especially when you usually don't have good news to share when it comes to this test. So with my modified study routine, atm I usually do one untimed RC passage a day before working LR or LG. In addition to the CC, prior to today I have done 18 untimed passages and I usually got -2 or -3 with the occasional -1. But my low resolution summaries became simply about dumbing down individual sentences so I could process it and I often forget to pay attention to the structure. I neglected the fact that every paragraph is important. @"Alex Divine" reminded me of this fact just a few days ago in a recent post I made and today I got my first -0 on an untimed RC passage. What makes it extra meaningful for me is the fact it was a science passage. I hate science passages. I usually never really understand what the heck they're babbling about, but I did today on my 19th attempt. So Alex, I thank you sir. Better LSAT score here I come!!

Hi everyone,

To all those preparing to take the LSAT in a couple days, GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!! I'm hoping this test doesn't cause too many anxiety attacks and brings relief. I'm taking it and although I'm super nervous - I'm planning to go in calm and to just do the best I can. Reading a lot of the discussions on here have calmed my nerves. So thank you all for that.

I had some questions if anyone can help clarify that would be great:

  • So I heard this Feb. test is undisclosed so that means I won't be able to get details on how I did?
  • If I cancel a LSAT score, can schools still see the score? If so, what's the point of canceling?
  • Does anyone know if LSAC fee waivers are renewed on an annual basis where you can re-apply?
  • Is there a certain limit as to how many times you can take the LSAT and any time you need to wait before taking it again?
  • Thank you so much 7Sage community!!!

I'm scheduled for Saturday's test at MSU and starting to get nervous they will cancel it due to upcoming weather! Supposed to get 8 inches of snow tomorrow then 2 Saturday. Schools are already closing here. Will they schedule a new test date in the very near future? Totally relaxed and in a good state of mind for the test and so ready for it, but uneasy over the weather : (

    Hey All,

I have a M.S. I'm Chem. I've discovered new, exciting nanoparticle materials and written and published a thesis (pretty much a book- but not pursuing this in any way right now). I have 5+ years teaching at a nice university.

My undergrad GPA is only 2.8- which is higher than the Chem undergrad average. My grad GPA (which doesn't seem to be too relevant here is 3.7).

I registered for the Feb 10th LSAT and have spent 10 days studying. I've taken 3 practice tests under simulated testing conditions and gotten 159, 159, 160. I miss about half + of the logic games questions currently. Do I need to hold off and not take the test this Saturday or is it okay to go ahead with the test with these practice test scores? Additionally, I'm over 30 and I do want a J.D. and to practice. Your insights are appreciated.

Wanted to make this post after seeing @akistotle's post on movies to watch pre-test day.

For those who are taking the February test on Saturday, what are you planning on doing Friday? I'd love to hear about everyone's ~relaxation~ routine (and maybe steal your ideas). For those who have already written, what did you do the day before the test?

In the morning, I'm gonna get to the gym and get a really good, stress-relieving workout in. Gonna come home and make myself chocolate chip pancakes cause lord knows I haven't had time to make a decent breakfast in months. I booked a massage for myself at 11am cuz why not!! Then I'd like to go for a nice walk outside. Afterwards, I'll probably chill and read a book until dinner. I'll try to cook a nice meal and spend time with my family. Then, for the evening, I want to have a spa night with a bubble bath, candles, tea, and a cozy movie. Hopefully be in bed by 9 or 10pm because I am a grandma.

I've been looking forward to this day for months.

What are you planning on doing the day before the LSAT?

To all of you who are masters of SA's: do you diagram them on the actual exam? I feel that if I don't then, I won't get them correct. Should I diagram them on the exam, or do I just need more practice diagramming them in general

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently registered to take the February 2018 LSAT but I'm incredibly worried that I have not prepared well enough! I took a majority of December off (truthfully, I took the whole month off) as I was visiting my family back home. I studied very hard for the whole month of January but I only just feel like the material is 'clicking'. My plan now is to take the test (to at least experience what it is like in true conditions) and then see how I feel afterwards (in the 6 days after) and potentially cancel the score (most likely cancel)... I'm worried, however, that schools will react negatively to a cancelled score? I will be applying to Canadian schools. I'm hoping to take the test once more in either the June/July sitting...

Thanks in advance for your opinions!! I appreciate it.

What the title says. I'm sure each of us had at least one passage that really piqued his or her interest, found amusing for one reason or another, turned his or her life upside down, etc.

I'm not a big fan of art passages, but I really liked the passages about perfume (PT 74) and Julia Margaret Cameron's photography (PT 73). The former was quite engaging, as I have never given a thought about perfume as an art form. As for the latter, I found its descriptions about unhappy children and sloppy decors hilarious.

I don't entirely understand why the answer is B and not E.

I think E probably is not the answer, in hindsight, because it is not "one writer's version of the theory" but at the same time the passage does say things like "She (Gilman) argued."

I have trouble with the "intellectual controversy" part of answer choice B, it didn't seem like a controversy to me, just an interpretation.

    Can anyone explain?

    Thx

J.Y., can you help us on this one? PT83.3.12 "In a scene in an ancient Greek play..."

Honestly, I was completely stumped on test day on this one and the answer choices still mostly seem irrelevant to me. I don't understand how to process it at all. Any insight?

I find that in RC (my worst section), I get a heinous amount of answers incorrect because I am overthinking and trying to absorb every single detail of the passage into my mind rather than just reading for the overall structure, argument, (aka what the questions are asking) etc. and end up losing myself. Does anyone else have a problem with this? And if so, how did you combat It? Did you just try to keep on reminding yourself to zoom out? Cause that's what I do but It definitely takes getting used to since I've been reading the same way for like 20 years now....

Also, I was wondering if you guys ever get distracted whilst studying? Haha so I don't feel alone. What distracts you? Sometimes I read magazine articles or take my phone off airplane mode and respond to texts. Sometimes I check Twitter. Sometimes I try to do some online shopping/browsing.

I understand why the other answer choices are wrong.

But I have a problem with confirming that answer choice E is correct.

E: The only offer that Sal made to Veronica was not a legitimate one. Thus, regardless of whether Sal made the offer in jest, there is no valid contract between them.

My problem with E is the open possibility that Veronica made an offer to Sal. If that's the case, even though the offer Sal made to Veronica is invalid, you can't be certain that there is no valid contract between them, because an offer made by Veronica to Sal would still be a contract between them.

Am I supposed to ignore this possibility because this is a "most" helps to justify question? Can anyone help me out here?

I was excited that I'd scored a 170 on PTs a few weeks ago, but instead of going higher, my score has only dropped since. I am aiming for a 171-172. I'll take the test on the 10th.

LG is typically my strongest section, RC next strongest, and LR my weakest. RC can vary widely, from -1 to -4 or -5. LR used to be my strong suit (once I scored -2 out of both sections) but I have fallen backwards.

Does anyone have advice on how to get my score back again? Part of me thinks my issue is anxiety, but studying is definitely easier for me than trying to decrease my stress.

    Thanks!

    Hey all,

Another RC topic here. I've only been drilling from early PT's, PT 35 being the latest. I've only taken full timed PTs from the 30s and 40s. I've heard that RC becomes more challenging, LG becomes a bit more straightforward, and LR stays about the same? For all y'all who've taken a more extensive number of PT's, would you agree with this?

Just wondering if I should move my focus to more recent tests.

Also I sometimes procrastinate by beginning new discussions.

    Thanks !

I feel like I made a horrible mistake by taking PT82 prior to sitting this Saturday. I did the test as quick as I could, pretty nonchalantly. I did horrible. I went -9 on each LR, -3 on LG, and -8 on RC. I haven't gone -9 on an LR section in a long time, let alone 2 sections in a row on the same test. My goal is a 165, I did a 158 on the last PT before the real thing. I'm afraid of burn out prior to Saturday but Im also afraid that if I take Wed, Thurs, & Friday off I may not be warmed up enough for Saturday morning. Any thoughts? I normally go -3/4 on LR, and -1/3 on LG.

Based on the correct answer to an RC question I just saw I'm wondering how to distinguish this from trap answers...

The question asks for the purpose of an introductory quote to a passage, to which the correct answer reads "[to] suggest that music that is at first seen as alienating need not seem alienating later"

The issue I'm having with this is that reading comprehension questions sometimes contain trap answers that go "beyond" the message of the passage, misconstruing or overextending the message beyond what the author intended.

This looked like one of those typical trap answers. Nowhere in the passage does the author suggest the work of either composer was ever considered alienating. Disturbing, shrill, incoherent, and dissonant were all used to describe the works of the two composers, none of these or other descriptive elements in the passage seem to equate to the concept of alienation in music.

In ambiguous cases like this, how do we distinguish a right answer from to a trap answer that is drawing a false equivalency or overextending the author's prose?

I'm rounding off my prep before this Saturday's LSAT, it would be great if someone could lend some guidance before then

    Thanks in advance!
